I'll tell you one of my heroes is Gov. Fashola of
Lagos state. I am not sure whether he is right to be our Presidential candidate in 2015 or not, but I really like the way he thinks and articulates why we need good policies. Lagos is a state for all (Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo) and Fashola is managing the state well.

Who are some of the good guys you really like and who you think might be the next rising
star to make a great run at the presidency in 2015?

You guys should know that, private persons like you can arrest an offender, any offender as long as you wont put yourself in danger by attempting to arrest such offender who may react in violence. Criminal justice administration and enforcement is also not always about making arrests, charging and arraigning before a court, reprimand, public or private; like our governor gave yesterday is also what criminal justice administration and enforcement is about. Others include fine, community service and so on.
Given the human rights deprecative outlook of the NA and the timidity of the Nigeria Police, the governor set a fine example. A honourable man/institution will take a cue and act honourably next time to avoid such public reprimands. It is not always about handcuffs, holding cells, courts and imprisonment. Enjoy!

I can't believe that we have Nigerians on this forum who are condemning governor Fashola for this commendable act. Later on, people will argue that Nigeria is a failed nation because of poor leadership. The truth however is that Nigeria is a failed nation because most Nigerians are not good people either. Fashola did what any good leader would have done considering that the police would have turned the other way. In sane societies, it is rare to see uniformed officers outrightly breaking the law and if they are caught breaking the law, there are severe consequences. In Nigeria however, everything is upside down. Lawlessness is the rule of the game and then we wonder why we can never move forward as a nation.

word. Some Nigerians are used to oppression. They believe there are other human beings that are better than them so they feel they can do what they like and wont complain. Fashola was not using the BRT lane, he was queuing in the traffic also. You cant blame them the people complaining abt Fashola. They have been oppressed all their life

now that he arrested 2 military officers for driving on BRT lane, Nigeria is free from bad governance, looting of public funds. Lagos is now free from corruption! Halleluyah!

What we see being displayed on Nairaland is the pathetic naija situation,a lot of the people that post comments on nairaland (from all tribes )simply amaze me.
1.Why should a colonel who should be @ the forefront of keeping the law believe he is above the law?
2.I was in traffic on the same route this morning and i saw some soldiers still doing the same thing ,this included a DHQ Toyota Hiace, woe betide any police or lastma guy who tried to arrest them, just a day after a whole colonel is embarassed. This is clearly a lawless society.can you imagine if it was anyone else, even the commisioner of police that attempted to stop the colonel, katakata would have burst,if u study the pics well there was no policeman in sight behind fashola perhaps out of fear except the ss guy wielding an ultra sophisticated weapon who can take on any threat.
3.What about the LASTMA guys themselves who hide in corners waiting for pple to pounce on rather than being there to direct and help pple.
May God help us all

As much as i didnt want to comment originally, this statement shows that a lot of nigerians are now used to lawlessness. Like it or not, Fashola is one of the few Governors that have a sense of discipline. If all of us keep waiting for d Nigerian Police to maintain law and order, we may have to wait for a really long time. Lets stop criticising the few good leaders that we have so this country can move forward.

That is wrong because the White people we look up to dont do that. A police officer/ public officer in the West will never break laws just so he/she could arrest you for a common traffic offense. Our Governor-in-chief wants to turn Lagos to small London and he cant even play the part of the Mayor of small London perfectly. He needs to watch more videos on how Governors in the West conduct themselves. He needs to realize that he is not the traffic enforcer-in-chief and he cant be every where at all times. There are professionals, Like LASTMA, with constitutional responsibility and legal backing to enforce laws as regards to conduct of commuters on the BRT lane. It is better we as a people copy our White masters to the letter and allow these professionals to do their job without fear or favor.

LIES, there are a lot of clips on youtube in the United states. Policemen chase cars to anywhere in the UNITED STATES and brake law to arrest violators. why are you lying? damn nigeria is a failed country bruh

@ eghost247 my problem with this post is the word "ARREST" you use, you should have use the word "CHALLENGED" fashola challenged two army for using the brt lane simple! because Nigerian constitution did not provide space for the arrest of military men by a bloody civilian ok?.
