Alpha2k: It is disturbing to see maize being sold for about N50 when the cost of producing a standard cob of fresh maize on the farm is N6.If you know the price is high you too can go to farm for a large scale farming of maize and maybe other farm produce so that you can have your profit outrageously. |

Re: Why Is Corn Being Sold For N50? by FOLLEY20(m): 6:47am On Jul 25, 2012 |
Well, selling a corn 4 #50 is part of subsidy removal experience due fuel hike. Anyway, it depends on ur location. In south west states particularly Ondo state, u can still get 5 big uncooked corns for #50 & 2 cooked/roasted corns for #50. I think d farmers are really trying compared 2 their hard labor. |

FOLLEY20: Well, selling a corn 4 #50 is part of subsidy removal experience due fuel hike False. It's sold for about the same quoted price since the past two or three years. |

I guess the op's message here is that he can produce this in large quantity @ N6 each, but I don't know why he's not coming out to clarify things here. Truly NL should endeavor to read with d mind to understand rather than to criticise. My 2 cents though |

Re: Why Is Corn Being Sold For N50? by spendogram: 7:54am On Jul 25, 2012 |
The OP only spoke about the cost of producing it at the farm being N6. Of course you will get it at about N10 near the farm but if they have to transport it to the city with the current poor road network you will realize that they are justified for selling at N50. Generally speaking, raw materials are cheap in Nigeria but the cost to deliver to the final consumer is usually too high because of poor infrastructures. |

Re: Why Is Corn Being Sold For N50? by crackhouse(m): 8:15am On Jul 25, 2012 |
Did u consider these? {1} the time & energy spent on roasting it. {2}the fumes that entered the eyes of the woman when she was roasting the corn. {3} the particles of charcoal that entered her eyes when she was blowing the fire. {4} the risk she took sitting on a chair in the night and also on the street where evil men & armed robbers patrol. {5} that it's from the proceeds gotten from it she use in feeding her children, paying their school fees, buying drugs for them when they fall sick and pay house rents {6} that she spent money on getting the charcoal used in roasting the corn {7} that she also spent money on transporting the maize from the market to her house. My dear if i were those people, i will sell it not less 80 naira per one. |
