Be deceiving urself there... Seems as if u don't know a cracked software is...who told u it won't work... I have been using AutoCAD 2020, AutoCAD electrical, solidworks, revit and Proteus..all cracked ,activatedvand for free... Even top construction companies in Nigeria like have their employees using the cracked version.. Do ur research about the cost of the original license and copy of each software and see if the average Nigerian engineer can afford it
You're buying pirated copy of the software. Can't even work cos you need a code to activate it before using it. You can only get the code if you buy it from the Autodesk Maya website
Where is the money to buy a 16 GIG of RAM 256GIG SSD 4GIG dedicated Nvidia graphics card and subscription to have access to use AutoCAD Revit Bim 3D software?? Think of these first?
As a civil engineer, if you really want to gain valuable experience, find a civil engineering consultancy firm and apply. Cos you have HND, they can take you as a TO, but chook eyes for everything wey dem dey do, in one or 2 years, you will be very experienced.
Construction companies don't give the best engineering experience. The best engineers are often at the consultancy firms
Strongdickfresh: Message me if you're in Delta States. Civil Engineering is an interesting and lucrative occupation. The need for civil engineers are on the increase. Politicians, Businesspersons, corporate entities, cooperatives, Yahoo boys and developers are building estates and mansions all over Nigeria. Just get connected to me and I will link you up. I'm a civil engineer doing excellently well. Civil engineering occupation is still very fresh and promising in Nigeria. Nigeria has not really developed. I'm always proud of being a civil engineer earning 6 figures...
aysnoopy: I saw a post earlier about someone seeking for advice on where to get experience in electrical engineering which inspire me to ask about civil engineering too. I'm a graduate with HND cert 6 years ago. My current job is not really what I want and I'm not gaining any experience. Please, where can I gain and how can I get a place to gain experience
They say in order to gain experience in civil engineering, you must learn to sell yourself off as a slave. Basically going from site to site doing free labor under the sun to acquire the much eulogized experience. Also be prepared to receive insults and yelling from resident engineers. Right now na just name wey civil engineering get for this country. That course seems like the fastest way into a life of hardship and extreme stress. Why not grow in your current place of work, unless of course you’re one of those engineers that relish the stress and hardship.
Even I, after almost 10years still actively live in denial, though less and less with each new skill I acquire. It is difficult and even painful to outrightly come to terms that your engineering degree ends with you having a piece of paper( cert) and just that. My first 4yrs post nysc was without form and void . I once worked in a site as advised by a builder whom I thought was an engineer prior to my site visit... Long story short, I didn't go again!! I didn't have to become a manual labourer to learn my craft, a professional discipline for that matter. I don't even have to recount my visit to the restroom that night and not being able to stand up as a result of the resulting body ache. I just couldn't stand up. Manual Labour has levels guys.
So several weeks later, I brainstormed on what I could do or learn that will get me in front of civil engineers or learned builders; and not "those" by road side. Electrical was the fastest answer to me. And that was where and when the journey started. So I started as an apprentice.. Learnt the basics, YouTube was tremendously helpful. Got the skill but still felt very very small cos my degree was on a pedestal and would always be mentally mocking my new small niche skill but at least I could now cut my hair, subscribe and saved li2 up to #15000!!!! and most importantly I solved one problem and then another and another!!! I still remember my first paid service, it was #300.. Guys, that brought tears to my eyes... my boss- had told me to go with a customer.. Ohhh , someone even believed in me!?.. Do you know my boss(oga) cannot read nor write. I was doing the bank stuffs for him.. Buh he would handle bungalow , duplexes etc electricals as a pro.
I am not saying I am doing very great now but I know i am far from where I used to be.
By the Grace of God. Some people know me as an electrician; to some, I am a building AC technician and most recently, others are beginning to know me as a dstv installer. I also trained as a solar tech in 2019...but I think jobs on solar works purely come on recommendations, as millions are involved, few jobs maybe come if you have a physical office..
So now I am a freelance Technician/electrician
I don't feel li2 again in the face of my dormant civil engineering degree. In fact, in more ways than one, I believe it has helped me contend with myself to output a better version of myself.. The engineering profession is loosely an inductorination. The critical thinking and problem solving skills you are bathed in, in the course of learning do not leave you. Those will help you in any area of INTEREST you go into.
If you put your mind to practicing, you will find the strength to endure the process.
It would have been possible when blocks and other materials were on the low. Now that cement is sellling for 3800 to 4,000 naira per bag while good blocks sell at 300 to 330. Sand , granite , gravel price up . For a 3 bed without knowing the level of the land you need up 3500 blocks, 50 bags of cement at 4K , 20 tons of sharp sand 60k, very sharp gravel can be introduced for foundation blinding plus pillars 20tons , iron road 12mm up to 30length at 4500 naira each..
Kokaine: bro... Wherr will 3m get a three bedroom flat to. Will it get up to the roof. And what amount is reasonable to set out for a three bedroom duplex so as to maximize land use. The land was bought in a very expensive location so I'm thinking its better to build an upstair

I can recommend you to a Construction Firm, they currently need interns and it's paid internship. Though the remuneration might not be much but you'd definitely gain relevant experience.
Cheers!!
Hello boss,I'm a civil engineer,I have the experience, but no project at hand, are they still in need of engineers..
eminemkayc: Hello, Civil engineering is a diversified profession with specialities such as structural engineering, transportation/highway engineering, geotechnics, water resources/environmental engineering & civil engineering materials. Typically, at this stage of your development, you should have developed a passion in one or more of these fields of specializations which you intend to practice. If I am to take structural engineering as an example, your best approach is to seek for a consulting firm either in the infrastructural/building industry or the hydrocarbon/petrochemical industry where you will be exposed to civil engineering designs of various types of structures on diversified projects such as quay walls and anchor ties, slope stabilisation structures, high-medium rise structures, steel structures such as portal framed shelters, telecommunication masts, pipe racks, cable tray supports, etc. You will be exposed to the competent use of spreassheets and FE analysis software packages in the analysis and design of steel and RC Structures such as staadpro, sacs and etab in addtion to enhanced detailing with autocad. With this you will be building engineering capacity and learning from professionals, the intricacies and rudiments of structural engineering which you can leverage on, to handle jobs on your own by the side and make money as a professional. On the other hand, construction engineering is saturated, very competitive and is a space occupied by all sort of players such as architects, builders, etc Even masons approach potential clients and parade themselves as engrs on minor projects such as a two storey structure (single suspended floor, in good terrain without a complex foundation beyond their comprehension), and these clients do not know the distinction between these professionals. But if you are a civil engineer who is skilled in design of offshore steel structures for production fixed-jacket platforms to API/AISC codes of practice, loadout analysis and design, sea-transportation analysis and design, steel portal frame structures for shelters, filling stations' design, mooring analysis and design of breast and mooring dolphins at container loading bays, structural design of churches, steel trusses, design of shopping malls, etc you separate your self from non-professionals and make very good money as a civil engineer. So in summary, apply to engineering consulting firms as a trainee, there are a number of them. Be diligent and learn the core principles of structural design to the relevant codes of practice ( BS codes, EuroCodes, etc), you learn how to detail the structures, prepare design reports, site visit reports, material take offs and bill of quantities, etc and gradually, you'll be working your way up to becoming a professional engineer.
