sense dey wetin you dey say. you know italy reduced size of legislators but they still run democracy

grin grin

Reference:

I disagree. Cutting down the size of the Legislature is watering down democracy and gifting more power to the Executive with potentially disastrous consequences. Size is not the problem, funding is. To correct the problem of funding you have to look at it fundamentally and ask yourself what the function of the Legislature is.

They are law makers who act on the direct instructions of their constituents to better their lives through the instrument of corporate agreements. They aggregate the desires and wishes of small groups of people, such small groups that fall through the cracks of Executive power. Legislators are essentially emissaries or ambassadors of small groups of people or comunities at the centre. A working Legislature thus negates the need fir other establishments such as the Governors Forum which doesn't exist in proper federations.

If the ambassador of Nigeria to the United States or France or the United Nations is empowered, funded, supported by Nigeria and not the United States, France or the United Nations for obvious reasons then why should a Senator or Representative of the people of Ahoada West or Epe or Jos South be funded by the very people it is likely going to challenge in debates on behalf of the people.

Yes they are called Federal Lawmakers but position and responsibilities are not the same thing. It is the person who sends a message that bears the cost not the recepient. The constituents and senatorial zones should bear the cost of representation. The Nigerian citizen, not government should fund the Legislature directly through dedicated levies abd taxes. The citizens should control wages and entitlements. Only by dictating the pipers tube will they get value for money.

At first, they told us we needed a Sovereign National conference.

At some point, constitutional amendment.

Then GEJ held a National Conference, after which his government courageously allowed a little progressive change in the electoral system, and as a result of that change, lost power to them.

They then ridiculed the National Conference to no end. They threw away the outcome of the conference, stated that Nigeria is okay as currently structured. That our only problem is corruption. That PDP's misrule for 16 years was our worst mistake.
They said we do not need restructuring, that State Police is unnecessary. That our Police is enough.
They defended Baba's 97%/5% policy. They made appointments dependent on what tribe's genes you carry. That merit doesn't matter when the President loves Nigeria, is well-intentioned, and is fighting corruption.
At a point, an independent legislature became the scapegoat for our national problems. Because Baba needs the support of everyone in government. Dissenting views aren't welcome.

Today, Baba owns the legislature. Yet, for some reason, these legislators are still the problem, because they won't vote themselves out of existence.

Now that it's clear that nothing is working, what do they tell us? That we need a NATIONAL DEBATE.

Back to square one. National Conference Debate.

Please, how did they convince anyone that they'll be good for Nigeria?
your comment is apt..so apt..

Start with National Assembly. Make it a Unicameral legislature or at least slash their salaries/Allowances by 60%.
The monies this country has lost in the name of Constitutional projects. Oh God.
That place is an event center , most of them are come, chop and go attendees.

Also, the Oronsaye Report should also be implemented Asap.

They can start from there.

no report will be implemented. we're a people that is resistance to change

You are out of your mind, Osinbajo is weak and irrelevant, he can't preside over the toilet in his house.

If the Yoruba's are serious they should sit down with the Igbo's and identify a true leader that can lead the country out of the morass of poverty, violence and ignorance.

Typical IPOB member. Jealousy and hatred is ingrid in you. Reason for lowly life and acute or no growth. What a shame

I am now IPOB and Igbo because I disagree with you, no wonder Nigeria youths are in a complete mess.

What has Osinbanjo accomplish that now make him the messiah?

He is the vice president of a failing country. Nigeria is now beset with violence, debt has gone through the roof, there are no significant reforms to either restructure the country or reform an expensive government.

I don't agree with you because I believe Osinbajo is a competent man. Let's not be quick to forget his actions while he was the acting president. Also, the initiatives he spearheads are always a success.

How do you measure the success of tradermoni or school feeding programme during Covid-19 lockdown?

I concur to what the ex CBN governor said, the Nigeria system of governance is expensive and raking us down.

Funds meant for developmental affairs are been cut down due to overhead cost.

Therefore i see reason why the cost of running governananxe in Nigeria should be cut down.

After all the money spent on the study tourism, Nigeria still remains a shithole. And a big joke to add to it.

The point is, why can't this country do something differently?

Copy something from those countries; then modify it to suit your peopleS, to be sustenable, and feasible

The truth is, system of government is someone's or some people's ideas. So, it can be modified to suit the country without copying everything in toto

U should ask your politicians not me.

My lecturers then use this to mock our govt. Nigeria was even better than Pakistan from what they said. Their military was coming to Nigeria for traning( got this from a general), look at them and look at us. Tje table turned and we started sending our soldiers there for training. They fought militants a lot. Their rough mountain terrain is very hard to navigate ( worst than sambisa forest)and militants and terrorist groups use them to their advantage but their soldiers lived to their name.

We have so much in common. Now, we can't even see their back.
Your problem is born to rule mentality, ethnicity and the two breeds corruption.

Majority of people sitting in Nigerian public offices today are not supposed to be there, they are supposed to be on the streets hawking foods and contributing to our national economy instead of taking from it. Nigerian public offices are the sitbed of intellectually low people who are more prone to corruption.

It is not a national confab.

What Osinbajo is saying is that if cost of governance will be cut, the executive, judiciary and legislature must agree. This is a crystal clear statement by the VP that doesn't need to be twisted.

Thank you for this deep lying analysis, only a wise developing nation that can look for the still-labour-intensive sectors and invest wisely will be able to avoid this tragedy coming to them. That is why Nigeria need to invest in agriculture more, it needs to invest in craft industry, building construction, biotechnology and even weapon technology to protect their investments.

Technology is the answer to any race to liberate itself from oppression. If you look at the weapons in the hands of countries like Russia, China, and USA, you will know that humanity is heading for a doom. Are you telling me they are just building those mass impact weapons for safe keeping?

If we want to really make head way in this our God forsaken country.

We have to start from our bogus military-like constitution and ensure that we have a central database and go digital in all our operations most especially our election processes.

Scrap federal character and quota systems.
Scrap state of origin, ethnicity and religion from our constitution.

Invest massively in our educational systems, both formal and informal. Make primary and secondary schools free and compulsory.

Invest in electricity and health care industry.

Put the right persons in the right job no where he or she comes from.

The judiciary too must up their games and ensure that justice is done without delay.

Decentralize power and make the states and local government source fund independently.

Chai, they know all these but greed and selfishness won't allow them.
We keep moving in circles and keep blaming each other.

Una good morning oh!!!!

You are as good as talking to yourself with these great points.

Do you think the evil humans who make our government don't know all of these you stated above?

The best thing is for the nation to crumble and all of us go our way. Oil would soon be useless. That's when we'll face the reality.
