I'm currently working for an igboman. Firstly I took the job so that I can make some money but over time I dropped the idea of working for the Money, I'm now learning the Igbo ways of business. My boss is an uneducated Igbo man , he looks broke but in truth at all at all my oga is worth a wiping 800m-1 billion naira. His ways of doing business is out of this world. He bought a Hummer bomber bus last month for 1.5m, a bus that an average man can pay 5m for.

As the whites would say "if you stick around the barber shop too long you'll get a free hair cut" I'm beginning to strike incredible business deals myself even tho I'm still learning. To an igboman business is an art.

I'm blessed to have met my boss

May Lord bless you for this Truth!

Very impressed with this write up. We Igbos have funny stories about how we all got to where we are today.

My maternal uncle once said in early 90s that ana azu ego azu tupu eribe ya meaning one is supposed to grow money first before spending it. He was randomly discussing with someone and I overheard that as a kid. This man was driving his late dad's old Peugeot 504 back then and nobody knew he was a millionaire until much later.

I remember when they did some renovations in their family home then, na so my mum and others carry everything for head saying he needed to be left alone to stand on his feet well financially without knowing that Hunculu was already very rich as. grin

The theme in the story is the ritual of patience and hope. While keeping hope Iboman patiently toils.

Big lie! Big fat lie!

Where was Invictus' patience? Abi Obinna no be Iboman?

Read their confession when Igbo caught doing crime. What is first thing Igboman say? grin

This write up is another bullcrap for thrashbin.

IGBO BUSINESS MEN:
Sudden Wealth and Their Money Rituals!

This is probably the most difficult writeup I've done in recent times, but don't leave me yet...

You see, I love the Igbo tribe so much that I had to write Jamb three times and insisted on studying in an Igbo speaking state... Unfortunately, UNN and ESUT refused me admission, while I rejected to study Chemical Engineering in The Federal Polytechnic, Afikpo; Ebonyi State.

I've lived, mingled and transacted with lots of my Igbo business men and one thing stands out...

They are all ritualist...

A friend recently had a printing contract, and needed to come to Lagos to buy some of the things, like papers et all...

So, he approached the Mushin Market, with his well starched, ironed with visible contour; and a beautiful pair of shoe..

With high shoulder, he stepped out of the house to the admiration of street babes...

To him, going to buy materials worth almost 500k was a big deal, but he came back feeling slightly depressed...

Da, what's wrong, I asked politely having observed his mood...

For some minutes, he couldn't say anything...

So I thought he's been duped and brainwashed not to tell anyone,,,

You know the games na..

In the end, he said mildly; Da, fear igbo men ooo...

What happened, I asked again?

His response made me laugh so loud...

If you see what I saw today eh!

After I made a transfer to the guy for the 250k Papers I bought, for him to confirm the money has entered; he showed me the alert, and my eyes went to the account balance...

Bro, I saw 50million plus in the guy's account...

I mean, this guy was wearing bathroom slippers, Short and a small t-shirt...

There must be something else he does...

He must be a "ritualist"...

I immediately reacted in defense of the guy...

This mindset has been nurtured for too long by people of different tribes...

In my over 10years of associating with Igbo friends, I have been able to confirm that they are all positive "ritualist"...

May be we all need to look up the meaning of rituals...

The sudden wealth of an Igbo man is as a result of years of accumulation.

Igbo Business men who are already Millionaires will still look like one who hasn't seen N1 in a whole year...

They don't live in an expensive house while trying to build wealth...

They don't buy the most expensive cars when trying to build wealth, if they do during Christmas, they are selling it in January when they return from the village...

They don't go for expensive clothes while trying to build wealth...

They don't impress babes with money, while trying to build wealth...

But, the moment they've accumulated enough, everything mentioned above will be done in double of what anyone else has been doing,,,

They have a life ritual to build wealth...

They have healthy competition among themselves, if you think I'm lying, go to Anambra and see houses...

The major ritual of an Igbo Business man is patience, while building...

That is why, whenever I go to their shops and they call me my oga, I will quickly return it to them... Igbo man will respect and almost worship you just to sell his goods to you, but meet outside his shop, he tells you; get away there!

The sudden wealth of an Igbo Business man is as a result of many years of savings, and investment rituals..

So, next time you hear anyone telling you, Igbo Business men are "ritualist", be proud to let them know they are...

Because it takes strong ritual sacrifices in patience, savings and investment to build sustainable wealth...

If you are an Igbo Business man here, biko share to inspire your other brothers and let the world know that your rituals are positive rituals of patience, savings and investment...

One love my Igbo brothers...

I agree with op but let me add this-
1. Some Igbo run business cartel. The leader of the cartel may be a drug baron in Malaysia or internet fraudster in Russia sending money to his kinsmen for business and get return from them

2. Some Igbo loves interest free money to start or expand their business. Source of money can be illegal or legal.

In Abuja here and parts of Nasarawa close to Abuja up to Keffi,by 8am most shops are still closed, d only few ones open are all shops owned by Igbo ppl.
When they build up their customer base and make it,u start hearing of ritual bla bla.
Go to a hausa man to buy stuff, if he doesn't have loose cash for your change, he will dismiss you arrogantly.
But Igbo man will hold onto that your money and both of you will start looking for change whilst he will be encouraging you to buy more things so d balance will reduce.

Why don't you travel too?
The largest number of plastic manufacturing companies and glass manufacturing companies are in the SW... mostly owned by Foreigners and a few Yorubas. The largest markets for glasses and plastics are in the SW.
Yorubas control the markets for these 2 especially in the SW which has the biggest market for them.

https://www.nigeriagalleria.com/Manufacturing_and_Production/Plastics_s.html

Go all over Lagos and the SW,vehicle businesses are controlled by Yorubas with a sprinkle of other tribes.Elizade only imports and deals with Toyota, the most popular brand of vehicles in Nigera. We also have Lanre Shittu motors who also assembles vehicles,Oluwalgbon motors is another very big player,Skymit motors is also very big and also Tejude motors etc
All of these auto entities can be located in other areas in Nigeria.

These are big players in the league if choscharis who happens to be the only big Igbo fish in vehicle Biz
What of Globe motors, is he a small fry in the vehicle sales industry?
I jus de laugh you.
A lot of these Igbo guys in Lagos with siblings in Houston/other parts of America shipping tokumbo cars and spare parts to them make more profit than some of these big names you are mentioning.

So because people say Igbos are ritualists or Nigeria is the giant of Africa,we should believe, abi.Realities, succeses, perseverance, spread and business acumen are what determine good business people. Yorubas have these in Abundance.

Yorubas are the only people that have businesses that have survived more than 70 years and still counting.

Yorubas are the ones who have gone out of Nigeria with nothing but established businesses that run into billions of dollars and billions of pound sterling in worth.

The only worthy businessman or person in the days of old was Louis Ojukwu who did not have anything left behind that one can point to as a tangible business.

The places you dominate are some markets in Lagos like Alaba,Ladipo,Trade fair,Computer village,Yaba etc.
Yorubas too dominate Owode onirin,Pelewura,Oshodi,Lagos Island...Enu Owa,Balogun etc,Oja Oba,Ijora,Oyingbo etc.

As you dominate phones,Generators,Electrical parts, spare parts, okrika, leather shoes, bags etc.

Yorubas too dominate Iron rods and steel,Poultry and feeds,Plastics,Cereals,Rubber shoes,Seafood,Woods and plywoods, glasses,Vehicles etc.

All of these are petty traders except a few.
Yorubas dominate their markets in Ibadan,On do,Ekiti,Ogun state,Kwara etc.
We can only see a handful of Igbo clustered together in these places.
You only have a great impact in Lagos because you have a large population there. Lagos is the only place you have been most successful in the world more than even your 5 states. It is not like this for the Yorubas who have shown that they are some of the most astute businessmen and women in the world.

These are Yorubas that have been very successful in business both at home and abroad.

Amen.Thanks.I like Igbo people because they are industrious just like the Yorubas and Hausas but they like to arrogate good things to themselves and malign others. They have been mouthing this business thing a long, long time that we have come to believe this fake belief.

We only look at their clustering in locations and the sudden takeover of a few places especially in Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria.

I did a research and wanted to know why Yorubas are said to be richer than the Igbos when we all believe that Igbos are economically more buoyant than all Nigerians.

I got to know that the clustering is one of the main thing that makes people think Igbos are in business more than anybody coupled with their large population in Lagos. They do the clustering in Aba,Onitsha too.

The final result of the research was that Yorubas are virtually participants in all the businesses dominated by Igbos and Igbos too are in the businesses dominated by Yorubas.

The places Igbos dominate are some markets in Lagos like Alaba,Ladipo,Trade fair,Computer village,Yaba etc.
Yorubas too dominate Owode onirin,Pelewura,Oshodi,Lagos Island...Enu Owa,Balogun etc,Oja Oba,Ijora,Oyingbo etc.

As Igbos dominate phones,Generators,Electrical parts, spare parts, okrika, leather shoes, bags etc.

Yorubas too dominate Iron rods and steel,Poultry and feeds,Plastics,Cereals,Rubber shoes,Seafood,Woods and plywoods, glasses,Vehicles etc

The truth is that Yorubas are more resilient in business and have greater and better business acumen than the Igbos, they have higher spread, durability and mostly more successful but they do not have the population of the Igbo especially in petty businesses.
All in all,Yorubas are better in business than the Igbos.

I know an igbo man whose wealthy now.... Back then the people that knows him said he use to call his wife his Madam for shop.... Because the woman is pretty and has a beautiful voice that he noticed customers feel more conformable buying from her.... He immediately turned himself to boy boy....

When people ask of goods he will ask Madam for the last price they can give customer.... Meanwhile he the owner of the business and knows all the prices... But he didn't mind @all because he's an igbo man....he don't care looking like shop helper IN HIS OWN SHOP provided the money is coming

Research has shown that Igbos, because they are visitors especially to SW,always cluster in a location thereby making the place a trading base with mostly Igbo people whereas Yorubas do not do this because they are mostly the hosts.

Below are some major markets in Lagos. Some that you know are dominated by Hausas and Igbos but most are dominated by Yorubas but not in very large cluster like Alaba,Mile 12,,Computer Village etc.

You Igbos just move from your houses to your shops everyday. Most of you do not know Lagos well except some who hawk.

Move out of your shell, old man.

As a Yoruba + Igbo man... I think I will always go with my Igbo blood on many issues...

My late dad had to send me to Onitsha where I stayed 7 years, Nna men I learn life and business in a whole new level...

When I returned to Ibadan, I was tactically equipped.

Patience, savings, loss to gain, the way I sell to a customer buying a pieces you will think he/she is a God, customer service ..sometimes I load the goods myself, drive it down to there location..even when the gain is just #200 ... It takes Igbo blood to do that .

Proud to be an Igbo + Yoruba blood

Do you know there are Mexicans who bear the name Jesus?

Do you know that when the person refered to as Jesus Christ walked the earth, he didn't answer to Jesus, but Yeshua? By the way, Christ is not his surname in case you didn't know. It means the anointed one.

Do you know that the name Joshua in the Bible is the same as what we call Jesus today and that that name is as popular as Chinedu is popular with the Igbos, Ola with the Yorubas and Talatu with the Northerners?

There's no special attachment to that name, Jesus.

Leave the name and practice his teachings, maybe then you'll learn to hate the Yoruba people and muslims less.

Basically people ask me why are the igbos successful in business I always replied ...turn over and delayed gratification .......

Most people want to make all the gain from one sale ...Igbo man can sale with 10 naira on a goods of 5000 naira ....he can even make lose at first to win your trust ....then you keep coming back ..paying 100 folds that loss

Some yorubas would say is it from this shops this man built his house ? ...nah shop is just an office nothing more ...baba might have 25 shops across 10 states managed by boys , or can have a warehouse bigger than your family house 10 times

Remember when I stared my factory ....I bought over 12 distribution vans ...but had no car of my own ...yes 12 vans .......

There is nothing special about igbos we are just patient , observant and very calculative in business

This write up is not necessarily necessary

Research has shown that Igbos, because they are visitors especially to SW,always cluster in a location thereby making the place a trading base with mostly Igbo people whereas Yorubas do not do this because they are mostly the hosts.

Below are some major markets in Lagos. Some that you know are dominated by Hausas and Igbos but most are dominated by Yorubas but not in very large cluster like Alaba,Mile 12,,Computer Village etc.

You Igbos just move from your houses to your shops everyday. Most of you do not know Lagos well except some who hawk.

Move out of your shell, old man.

Coker market
Owode Onirin market
Alaba international market
Ajah Market
Balogun Market, Lagos Island

Abeg free me.

If I honour the Master it'd be by abiding with his teachings and not some puerile feelings about a name that's not special.
