Is It Wisdom For Christians To Lie In Some Situations? by destinedtee(m): 9:16am On Oct 03, 2012
Morally speaking, it is wrong to lie and the Scriptures also does not mince words about the destination of liars.

But i have noticed that sometimes Christians lie and they justify themselves by saying they are only applying wisdom. Some will probably refer to the case of Abraham when he lied about his wife Sarah that she was just his sister(Sarah was actually his sister but he hid the truth that she was also his wife).

This is usually done by believers to salvage themselves in some 'tight' circumstances. Some believe lie is still lie and is therefore a sin and some believe it is wisdom in some situation and so is not a sin in those instances. What is your take on this?

Heck yeah! For entertainment and for self-preservation. . .or to save others or SELF from harm or discomfort. cool

When you are dealing with Nigerian 'Busy Bodies' especially on the cyber airways of course!

Mu che che che che che che

Especially to those 'Mgbekes' and 'Mgbafors' looking to compete for h-internet blokoses and totos! grin

Mu he he he he he

People who like to move around like 'malus'. . . without brains of their own. . .JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT!

Ah-Ha! cheesy
Very entertaining. . .I tellya! cheesy

BOTTOM LINE. . .BE HONEST TO ONLY THOSE THAT ARE WORTH IT. . . .!

Even the so-called GOD deceived Esau in the so-called bible by conniving with Jacob to steal his birth-right.
Or should we mention the concept of the original sin. . .aka the 'forbidden fruit' in the so-called 'beautiful garden of Eden'?

Lies are sins as christians say. Agreed.
But how come God BLESSED the mid wifes in exodus for lying to pharoah about why they couldn't kill the baby boys?

Couldn't God have found another way to save them?
And they were killed at the end anyway.

When my son was younger (he's now 3), I often lied to him that there was a monster outside that would get him if he went outside (he always wanted to play outside) so am I now condemned to hell? shocked

I didn't do it in a malicious way, just to protect him from kidnappers.

For those that say all lie is sin answer this:

An assassin wants to kill your father and you know his mission, he then asks you where your father is Knowing you to be a "truthful" person he'll believe anything you tell him.

My guess is since all lies are sins then it won't be a sin to tell the "truth" in this case so that your father can be killed or would it?

I don't call it "lie",rather its called "a little patching, here and there".a lie is when you say something totally out of context or non-existing..its isn't a lie to tell a girl you have two cars, and whereas you have just one...but its a lie to tell a girl you own a car, when you don't have one.

John 8:44
New International Version (NIV)
You belong to your father, the devil, .. not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

I'm confused here, OP. Well I'll blame myself because it's been long enough since I last read the bible (May God forgive me). Buh, did u actually mean that Sarah was Abrahams blood sister? And they straffed to bear Isaac? Isnt that abomination? or am I missing something here?

It becomes a lifestyle if you are truthful. You only find it hard to say the truth when you are so used to lying. Practice saying the truth and you will see the table will turn- lying will be more difficult to do.

please listen to this song it will bless you

Lies are not Good. Either you are a christian , muslim , idol worshipper, office worker, pagan , jews etc .

Religion ,organizations, societies and every gathering condemn lies.

But the answer to your problems is that lies are meant to cover the truth and some truth are not to be told.

Imagine your boss telling you to tell all his visitors he is not around while he is the office ? Will you go ahead to tell the truth ?

So critically at some point in life u have to lie to cover up the truth but it should not be an habit or ways of life.

The 100% truth is that everybody lie so why? i think this will lead to the answer to your post

The lord has forgiven you of your sin of not reading the bible.. Say 12 Hail Marys and pay a 5000 Naira penance into this GT Bank account.. 0004765219 (Okija Juju) Now here is the truth about Sarah!!

Sarah was the wife of Abraham, as well as being his half-sister, daughter of his father Terah (Genesis 20:12). The Talmud identifies Sarai with Iscah, daughter of Abraham's deceased brother Haran (Genesis 11:29), so that Sarah turns out to be the niece of Abraham and the sister of Lot and Milcah. She was also the mother-in-law of Rebecca, her successor. She was considered beautiful to the point that Abraham feared that when they were near more powerful rulers she would be taken away and given to another man. Twice he purposefully identified her as being only his sister so that he would be "treated well" for her sake. It is apparent that she remained attractive into her later years. Despite her great beauty, she was barren for an unknown reason. She was originally called "Sarai" which is translated "my princess." Later she was called "Sarah" i.e., princess." In Biblical times, the changing of one's name was significant and used to symbolize the binding of a covenant. In this case, God promised to put an end to her barrenness and give her a child (Isaac).
