Christians are such hypocrites. Didn't Bishop Oyedepo lie in court about not slapping a girl when the video is there for all to see? I guess that's a spiritual lie coming from a Man of God. Mtcheew

destinedtee: Morally speaking, it is wrong to lie and the Scriptures also does not mince words about the destination of liars.

But i have noticed that sometimes Christians lie and they justify themselves by saying they are only applying wisdom. Some will probably refer to the case of Abraham when he lied about his wife Sarah that she was just his sister(Sarah was actually his sister but he hid the truth that she was also his wife).

This is usually done by believers to salvage themselves in some 'tight' circumstances. Some believe lie is still lie and is therefore a sin and some believe it is wisdom in some situation and so is not a sin in those instances. What is your take on this?

Is hiding the truth not lie
Apart from Abraham there are many more leading Bible figures who lied when in "tight" or not so tight circumstances:

* Jacob, who became Israel, lied to his father by pretending to be his brother Esau.
* David lied by pretending to be a mad man to save his life.
* Peter lied about knbowing Jesus to save himself from embarrasment shocked

Etc etc.

You do not have the spiritual wisdom to grasp what is written in the Bible; I called it hoopholes because I know that's what you guys call it! It only takes spiritual wisdom to understand the word of God, which I doubt you've got! You can't decipher the bible with your so called logic, it's all spiritual not some direct interpretation thingy! You really need help mehn~

What is the function of the BLOOD OF JESUS?! To wash away sin.. God knows that lying is necessary for the survival of man. Anybody who is a Lawyer here is in a business that seeks to alter the truth to suit ones personal aim.. So its okay to lie, cheat, and do all the sins as long as you remember to wash away those sins later with the blood of Jesus..

Thank Jesus that repentance no get limit.. So you can keep sinning and repenting for as long as you like.. PRAISE THE LORD!!

My kids!! They go to church.. They are not my biological kids though!! But I call them that anyways!! When I birth my own kids, they will also go to church.. Reason being that I think religion is important in the upbringing of a child.. It gives them sort of a higher purpose to pursue morality.. However, I will not f[u]ck up their minds with it.. I was born into a christian home to christian parents, My father later became a Pastor, Lived through many Sunday, Tuesdays and Thursday sermons, morning devotions, Night Vigils and House fellowships.. Became a born Again Christian at the age of 14, got baptised same year, carried, studied and preached the bible for over 4 years.. Backslided and just coasted along for a bit Stopped believing over 12 years ago!!

God does not lie and has never lied. Many of us confuse the scripture because we only choose to understand it carnally, but when you eat of the fruit that day you shall die, the death there signifies spiritual death ok. Stop deceiving yourself by quoting the Bible literally.

Christians are nt expected to lie and they should try to avoid lieing...Christians can overcome this(lieing) by using 'wise words'...These two examples listed explains what I mean.
1.When God created Adam, he told him nt to eat frm the forbidden tree or else he would die. In this, God didnt tell him that his eyes will be 'open' and God didnt sin...
2.A pastor was in the church in sierra leone when unknown men came to him and asked, 'who is the pastor in charge of the church?' and the pastor replied, 'THE church?' and they said 'yes! the redeemed christian church of God!' the pastor replied,'ha, he is in nigeria his name is pastor adeboye'. The unknown men went back saying they wld have sliced him in their local dialect.

You guys(hypocrites) just cant do without mentioning muslim in a minute. From the response of most christains here,i now see the reason why you always lie about Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) just to bring down muslims. As you know,Christainity is not a religion but the supposedly way of life of Jesus. My question to you christains is,did jesus ever lied despite all what he went through from enemies? If No is your answer,it means its a sin to lie in anyway..If you disagree, then can you please define the word TEMPTATION?We all lie in one way or the other, that does not give us the right to justify it.May God forgive us all.

It's a question that I have always wondered and asked myself. Look at Rahab who lied when her towns people came to her house demanding the whereabouts of the spies. And she never told them that she had hidden them.

Or imagine this scenario, if a thief breaks into a house demanding to kill the head of the family who is hidden in an undisclosed location in the house, should the wife (who is a born again christian) be honest by revealing this location to have her husband killed or lie that her husband is around? Food for thought.

Jacob paid a huge price for using deceit in stealing his brother's birthright. Originally, he was supposed to be the recipient of it, according to Biblical prophecy, but he went about it the wrong way.

Just adding,
It is NEVER wisdom for CHRISTIANS to lie in any situation. It is wrong, it is sin, it shows that the person is not walking in the Spirit but in the flesh, and it displeases God. Jesus is our example that we are to look at and try to be like/follow. All these giving examples of men that lied to justify lying is so wrong. God never approved of their lying. Now to some few cases raised that i feel i should add a thing or two about.

Lies are sins as christians say. Agreed.
But how come God BLESSED the mid wifes in exodus for lying to pharoah about why they couldn't kill the baby boys?

Couldn't God have found another way to save them?
And they were killed at the end anyway.
God did not bless them for lying, here is the passage.
Exo 1:17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
Exo 1:18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?
Exo 1:19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.
Exo 1:20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
Exo 1:21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
Exo 1:22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born ye shall cast into the river, and every daughter ye shall save alive.

The Bible says God blessed them because they feared God. Now secondly, it is very possible that the Hebrew women were not as the Egyptian women, but lively. But importantly though, God blessed them because they had the fear of God. the Bible says that the fear of God is to hate evil, it is the beginning of wisdom, and it prolongs days.

An assassin wants to kill your father and you know his mission, he then asks you where your father is Knowing you to be a "truthful" person he'll believe anything you tell him.
This argument and its types is emotional and not rational like haters of godliness usually want. Every sin's got its good reason too if we think hard enough. Like the drug pusher who does drug because he needs to help his family, and the halot who does that because she was hurt when young, and the assassin who does that because they killed his family in front of him, and on and on. what you should know is that your lie would not and cannot save your father from dying. He will die if he's going to die. Your lie might even put you and others in trouble instead.
2Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Nobody wan suffer, so they'd rather lie than live godly. They'd rather lie than be frowned on. they'd rather deny and betray Jesus and repent later. A religion of convenience, cafeteria christians they are.

Imagine your boss telling you to tell all his visitors he is not around while he is the office ? Will you go ahead to tell the truth ?

So critically at some point in life u have to lie to cover up the truth but it should not be an habit or ways of life.
If you showed and shined as a true christian to your boss, your boss would very likely not give you the duty to lie on his behalf. You want to keep your job and lose your soul. It's simply because you do not trust in God, or think that He can keep your job, or even promote you, or give you a better job. Where are the Shedracks and Abednegos, the true christians?
Re: Is It Wisdom For Christians To Lie In Some Situations? by Image123(m): 12:39am On Oct 05, 2012
Not all lies is sin. It means U are as wise as the dove as the bible portrayed. I once needed few hours to write a part time exam in my place of work, i know my production manager won't allow me since i was knew in the company, and learnt they dont allow pple run programmes there. I told him my father who died many years back have just been hit by a molue bus. Immediately he signed my gate pass, and went 4 the exam. She dat one na lie
what a question? even atheists in court can answer this one easily.

you have a mum whom you know is hypertensive and you are having problems at work. she calls you and says 'my son, hope all is well at work'? and you reply 'everything is fine ma'

i dont believe this example can be construed as a sin though it is a lie cos its definitely not the truth
There's never a reason to lie, and lies don't cure hypertension better than the truth. Ask God to give you wisdom in dealing with difficult issues, even every issue. As a personal suggestion, you can divert her attention, or defer the information, or simply do not pick the call then.

how about if you lied to save a soul (souls).... ask ursef
You can NEVER lie to save a soul. You cannot even save a soul, only Jesus can save. you may play your part truthfully and with integrity.

Apart from Abraham there are many more leading Bible figures who lied when in "tight" or not so tight circumstances:

* Jacob, who became Israel, lied to his father by pretending to be his brother Esau.
* David lied by pretending to be a mad man to save his life.
* Peter lied about knbowing Jesus to save himself from embarrasment

Etc etc.
All these figures could have died or been harmed inspite of their lies, and the Bible does not glorify or encourage their lies. Actually, their weaknesses are revealed to remind us that they were mere men like us, and we can achieve the righteousness, faith, and exploits that they achieved. It's a sorry case if their lies are what encourage you in all of their rich lifeS.

My kids!! They go to church.. They are not my biological kids though!! But I call them that anyways!! When I birth my own kids, they will also go to church.. this one was even deeper life like frosbel. See the trend and how degenerate they have and are becoming. Ever learning and never able to come to the knowlegde of the truth. A shame to the church(local and universal) and to Christ, turning the little knowledge they garnered into lasciviousness, a sign post and strong warning to all who think that they stand to take heed lest they fall, fulfillers of negative prophecy that the love of many shall wax cold. thank God there are those that will endure till the end, and there are those being restored from sin and backsliding.

It's a question that I have always wondered and asked myself. Look at Rahab who lied when her towns people came to her house demanding the whereabouts of the spies. And she never told them that she had hidden them.
Rahab had no Bible. She was a blaady halot canaanite that would have perished with Jericho. Her actions of lying should not be emulated. It's not her lies that saved her or the spies. i believe God could still have saved the spies if He had to, He is the Giver of life. And their death or life will not have stopped Jericho walls from crashing down. If they had been found, perhaps they may be arrested until rescue came, or God may even hide them(i won't put it beyond Him).
Josh 2:9 And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
This is the faith that saved her, it was not her lie but her faith that saved her.

Christians should walk and work in boldness and say the truth. the fear of God, not the fear of man, is the beginning of wisdom. It is NEVER wisdom for christians to lie in any situation.
