^^^ Well, I lived in Enugu for 5 years, during my time at FGC Enugu. I never adapted the 'igbotic' pronunciations of certain words e.g. Lagos, bread, very nice etc |

2sexy: kai... u wey dey yankee dey speak igbo like dis... I dey fall hand seriously. How did that even happen? @Ogugua88 I'm happy that some young people like yourself in the diaspora are learning Igbo. I want to imagine the look on some Lagos Igbos who say things like "I grew up in Lagos and i don't know how to speak Igbo" when they see you guys speak Igbo. We have so many Mumu Igbos in Lagos, that's why you would hardly see me hanging out with those kind of Igbos. |

Re: Igbo learning thread + Translator by Nobody: 10:35pm On Dec 16, 2012 |
afam4eva: @Ogugua88 I know exactly what you mean. There's no excuse for it. My mother was born and raised in Lagos and speaks both Yoruba and Igbo fluently. We all have our reasons for not knowing the language sooner, but there's nothing preventing anyone from learning the language now. |

Eze Promoe: I write/type better than I speak lol. I'm lucky sha. My aunty's youngest brother came from Anambra 2 weeks ago and is staying long term. I'll make him my tonal tutor lol. I am. My village is walking distance from White Castle Hotel. |
Re: Igbo learning thread + Translator by Nobody: 10:45pm On Dec 16, 2012 |
Dumb question about numbers. Do people actually say their numbers in Igbo? I know with other languages, like Spanish and French, they count in Spanish of French. I've never heard anyone use Igbo numbers though, since a lot of people mix English with Igbo. |
Re: Igbo learning thread + Translator by odumchi: 11:00pm On Dec 16, 2012 |
The language that I use when saying numbers varies depending on the situation. When it's a number below one hundred, I say it in Igbo. But when the number is in the hundreds/thousands I say it in English in order to save time and to avoid any confusion. However, there are times when I'm forced to say large numbers in Igbo (like when I am speaking with people who don't speak English). Oh, and by the way, nice progress. |
