I like this breakthrough. It gives us more options

Must one have a BB subscription on the sim before it'll work?

Go and get one now, not because of this stuff but, in order for you not to be subjected to been lock out of service, should your present service provider have problem(s). Thank you.

If this becomes a breakthrough then, people under the Glo 3G coverage will enjoy it better because, as I am typing this comment now, I am using Airtel as the signal strength on the Glo Bolt Modem in 'Edge' covered area is very bad. Moreover, the 'Status' messages I have been sending to 777 since yesterday have not been replied up till now.

Re: Glo Blackberry Plans On Phones And Other Devices by luluosas(m): 6:22am On Dec 26, 2012
How I used blackberry.net APN to work on my Glo Bolt Modem
After exhausting my Always Micro plan in just four days browsing only in the night, I began to look for avenue that will give me higher data volume for less. All this while, I have been imagining the possibility of using the Glo BB plan on other phones and Modems, just like Airtel’s BB plan is working for phones, Modems and tablets.
Although I have been hearing and reading here on Nairaland about using Airtel BB plan on phones and tablets, by texting BSM to 440 for a volume of 1GB data costing N1,200, I thought if Airtel can work, why not Glo too.
So, I finally bought the Airtel’s BB plan and was credited with 1048.57MB data volume. An SMS from 440 came asking me to remove and re-insert the battery for the plan to be activated. I did and a message came notifying me that my plan has been activated. Here are the messages as they sent during my subscription and after re-inserting the phone battery.
Your Airtel Complete Blackberry subscription was successful
Dear subscriber, your Airtel Complete Social Blackberry service is Live. Please remove and replace your battery to get the service running.
Dear subscriber, your current Airtel Complete Social Blackberry Monthly service expires on Sun 20 Jan,2013. To disable auto renewal, please send stopautorenew to 440.
You must remember that, I don’t have a BB phone and this subscription was done using ordinary Nokia 101 2 Sim phone. There are then, I started to enjoy my Airtel BB plan on my laptop using my malfunctioning LG GX500 phone as a Modem via Bluetooth. Indeed, it was a big relief.
Armed with the success of Airtel, I decided to experiment Glo BB plan on other phones and tablet and this time, I decided to try the Glo Blackberry Complete one week plan. I sent the keyword Coweek to 777 using the same Nokia 101 on the 22nd of December, 2012 at about 11.40pm in the night. I got a response immediately while N400 was deducted from my account. This was the message.
Your subscription is pending activation. Kindly remove your battery and re-insert to connect in the next one hour. Thank you.

I removed the phone battery and thinking that I will receive the activation SMS from 777 just like the case of Airtel, I put it back after a while. Waited for the SMS and to no avail, I then sent ‘Status’ to 777 and response a returned with the message
“Your subscription is pending activation. Kindly remove your battery and re-insert to connect in the next one hour. You have 0 Blackberry bonus on your account”.
As I am writing this now, I am using Airtel and I am yet to receive the activation SMS from 777 as they keep returning the same message anytime I sent ‘Status’ to 777.
Moreover, in as much as I haven’t use a BB phone before and coupled with the fact that, nobody here on Nairaland have said how he/she was successful in using Glo BB plan on a phone or tablet, I was feeling lost in the whole thing. Till date, my several tweets to Glo on Twitter asking questions about using Glo BB plan on phone/tablets/modem are yet to be answered. Even the questions I asked on this thread particularly Glo BB users, about using the BB plan have not yielded much positive results.
Now at a crossed road, I have to do something to make this experiment work, after all, I have already ruled out the possibility of ever using it or making the Glo BB plan to work on other phones. However, knowing that the Glo BB plan is a data subscription plan, I thought it might work with ‘gloflat’ APN but, I was wrong. When I was able to connect, it launched me to Glo HSI homepage. Remember, this is what usually happened when after exhausting your subscription volume on a paid data plan on Glo. With this experience, I knew then that, Glo BB plan does not use ‘gloflat’ APN to operate.
After discovering that Glo BB plan does not support gloflat APN, I then created another profile using ‘blackberry.net’ as APN on the Bolt Modem and make it the ‘Default’ profile as well. I then referred to (@samir101ng post on this comment here https://www.nairaland.com/1140414/testing-glo-blackberry-plans-phone#13529158 )
samir101ng:

That's just it, glo doesn't have any specific apn for the blackberry service. I doubt even if the Airtel apn is meant for blackberry. All blackberries (Nigeria) regardless of network connect to the main blackberry server in UK (England) using the blackberry.net apn via a secure socket layer protocool (ssl). To confirm this go to options, device, advanced system settings, host routing tables. You will see the 4 ssl settings that the blackberry uses to connect. To confirm the ip address of your blackberry, go to www.ip2location.com to see where your ip address is located. I don't know whether its tied to any apn or just a feature enabled at the NOC of the network operator. Airtel seems to have left their ports open free for any network traffic unlike others. Will still also do more research.
After all, when I created ‘glosecure’ APN to browse on ‘pay-as-you-surf’ it works. I tried to connect on several attempts but it couldn’t. I forgot about it and started using the Airtel plan I have subscribed earlier.
After a while, I tried it again and though it connected but, was unable to browse as the signal on the ‘Statistics’ table was nothing to write home about. I took this as a general internet problem on the Glo network even as the tweets to Glo on twitter asking about their internet issue were not replied.
Then, yesterday 25th December, 2012, I connected and was able to browse using the ‘blackberry.net’ APN even as the signal strength improved. After sometime, I checked my account balance and behold, it was intact. I became skeptical. Was I browsing ‘FREE’ or the subscription I made have been activated without a confirmation SMS from777? I couldn’t immediately fathom what the issue was at the time.
Well, I continued browsing and though the internet were disconnecting too often, I never gave up as I continue to surf whenever I reconnect back. This was how I used the internet yesterday. Up till this moment, I am yet to receive activation SMS from 777 and this now lives me to wonder, what is actually the case as my credit have remained intact. However, I am keeping close monitor to see how this whole scenario will end. This is my experience so far. Thank you.

Good news then. But, where you able to check your data balance? If yes, how did you do it as my messages to 777 are not replied now.
Re: Glo Blackberry Plans On Phones And Other Devices by luluosas(m): 1:25pm On Dec 26, 2012
I think Glo is having internet problems in my location (Yola) as the Modem is not connecting at all, even though I tried the 3 profiles (Glo Blackberry - blackberry.net APN, Glo Direct - glosecure APN, and Glo Bolt - gloflat APN) I have on the Modem.
Is anybody within the Northern States experiencing this now?
