the problem with most ppl is they don't like being corrected. even if you don't like the manner you are corrected, you need 2 look beyond that and see how you went wrong. i don't think i need 2 say more.

@ Ex Inferis

I know you are moving to 2.2 but heck take it easy,  i had a genuine reason for asking. No need to rush to conclusions.
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by ExInferis(m): 2:20am On Oct 11, 2008
beat you to it!!!

this sucks.

its not that different from the 1st gen. The killer app is GPS but Google Maps has almost zero POIs for naija, so besides Geotagging there really isnt much you can do with thius that you cant with the prior model.

im not a fan of browsing on mobile devices, and its a headche tethering this. not really worth thge price and hassle.

Im moving up to Blacberry Storm once i can get my hands on it.

this really sucks.

ipod update is pretty straight forward, though the software updates arent free, that means GO TORRENT. you cant move from 1.1.x to 2.1 without going through 2.0 first, so grab the 2.0 firmware for free here:

http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4293957/iPod_Touch_2.0_software_(From_the_store)

and 2.1 here:

http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4391205/iPod_touch_2.1.0_software_(from_store)

i just updated my niece's yesterday. just go to itunes after connecting the ipod, hold SHIFT and click UPDATE (not restore), select the 2.0 firmware and go from there.

repeat the same step above for the 2.1 firmware.

then use Quickpwn to pwn it and install Cydia if you so wish.

More 3G screenies.

@Tezz

I'm torn between an Android device, a Storm, or the Nokia 5800 (i already have Nokia 5610 XpressMusic and it rocks music and 3G-wise althouth its UMTS only, no HSDPA.). iphone 3G is somehow a little underwhelming and frankly we in Naija neednt bother, the point of using GPS-assisted location services is defeated by lack of Naija POIs in apps as i said earlier, and since its using A-GPS you need to be online to use Gmaps for location.

meanwhile Bigbrovar, whereever you are, i got N800 (layaway, 100 pounds). a bit hefty but fun, open source, runs Maemo, and unlike the iphone supports Flash 9. nice browser too. busy looking for apps and updating to OS2008 later.

Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by ExInferis(m): 7:57pm On Oct 11, 2008
have updated to OS2008 on the n800, its radical!. im using my MTN 3G and broadband wifi to roam on this thing and so far-SWEET!! its browser beats the iphone's hands down. plus its got tons of free apps.

ps:N800 is not a phone, its a MID (Mobile Internet Device)

sorry for going off topic
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by ExInferis(m): 12:35pm On Oct 12, 2008
@Tezz

remember our conversation re: Android last night? well, it says over at Engadget that Tmobile has sold all 1.5 million G1s (pix below).

ON PRE-ORDER!!!

Apple, gird your loins, trouble this way comes.

either revamp the entire iphone concept as you are doing with the MacBook or lose ground to these freebie guys.

heres my list of things to be in the proposed iphone 3.0:

1. Clipboard (ie copy-paste)

2. front-facing isight-style camera

3. disk mode

4. tethering

5. video recorder

6. expanded video codecs

7. mms

8. SMS forwarding

9. 5mp camera (at least)

10. memory card expansion slot

11. Flash support

12. Fix mobielMe and tune Push service.

13. provide core APIs in the SDK  so app devs can properly harness the device

14. File explorer

15. bluetooth

16. wireless N

17. maybe a SiRFstar3 GPS receiver (better for turn-based nav in urban locations)

18. powerVR grafx

well, thats my wish list anyway.

ps: the N800 has fatally crashed. battery ran down last night while browsing, plugged in the charger and it went into this crazy reboot cycle. i checked online and found that its a fatal though very common bug, its on the NV memory so no reflashing possible.

I'm done for.

screw you Nokia.

Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by ExInferis(m): 11:30am On Oct 13, 2008
Tezzazpete has brought to my notice that my earlier statement that you cant go from 1.1.x to 2.1 without 2.0 on ipod touch is errorneous.

i read it elsewhere and was just playing safe when i updated.

sorry for the inconvenience, if any.

thanks, Tezz.

ex inferis,

where did u get ur iphone 3g from?
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by ExInferis(m): 1:48pm On Oct 15, 2008
my bro bought it in the US, swapped him the f480 for it, now the simfreer thingy isnt working so its chilling in the bottom drawer. i broke the circuit (its that fragile).
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by logica(m): 2:21pm On Oct 15, 2008
yikes!!! *gulp* i can imagine i came pretty close then. my condolences.
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by ExInferis(m): 2:49pm On Oct 15, 2008
yah, thanks. still, the phone isnt that big a deal, cant make gmaps drop a pin on me and needs internet all the time, 3G works with MTN but chops battery.

i wonder why that simfreer dongle is so light and flexible for a circuit.
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by Gamine(f): 3:34pm On Oct 15, 2008
Hey nice palms tongue

Apple lover as i am, i dont really gbadun the iPhone yet

my sister wanted to let go of her 3G, i said NO.

lemme get out of naija first
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by logica(m): 3:37pm On Oct 15, 2008
why the simfreer is that flexible? haba, how else will it fit in the SIM slot with the actual SIM?
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by ExInferis(m): 1:09pm On Oct 18, 2008
got another simfreer-type unlock dongle, somethuing with 'J1' on it. it works but two things: 1, signal drops frequently and 2, you must cut off a third of your sim to fit in, and I'm reluctant to mutilate my sim. especially as my sim hardly resides in iphone (poor call quality, they say 3G is better and I'm yet to establish that fact.)

my iphone games so far:

1. Super Monkey Ball

2. Crash Nitro

3. Cro Mag RAlly

4. Moto Chaser

5. Asphalt 4

6. Real Soccer 2009

7. Xplane 9

8. Kroll

9. Zone Warrior

10. Alien invasion

11. Spore Origins

12. Raging Thunder

13. Blue Skies

14. Enigmo

15. Solitaire

16. Scrabble

17. Virtual Pool

18. StarWars The Force Unleashed

and still downloading, thanks to The Monkey's Ball. my wifi is running at 122 KBp/s and the MTN at 109kbp/s so i get these things lightning fast without any download accelerators.

EDIT: MTN now running at 167.5 kbp/s!! just downloaded Windows Xp Dark Edition v6, and lots more AppStore apps and games. current size of AppStore Portfolio: 1.7gb.

that jab totally eludes me. what are you referring to? if you mean physically, i will have you know my body parts are in perfectly good functional order and if you care i can prove that fact with just one organ.
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by texazzpete(m): 3:17pm On Oct 19, 2008
@Neoteny
Finally managed a landing in Xplane 9 yesterday. . .after a million attempts!

Nice collection of apps. I've got about 2GB of apps downloaded sef. Haven;t u maxed out your MTN data limit yet?
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by ExInferis(m): 3:28pm On Oct 19, 2008
@Tezz

i switch between the MTN and the WLAN, i use the latter for heavier downloads because its 30gigs a month.

LOL@ Xplane!. me, i couldnt tell whetehr i was flying or landing the durn thing, but great physics nonetheless. how do you take off? i pull the flaps up and down but i don't seem to be getting enough speed to lift.

Real Soccer 2009 is unbelievable (though I'm not a footie fan).

I'm syncing the 3G right now after upgrading to 2.1, will post screenies and impressions later.
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by ExInferis(m): 4:23pm On Oct 19, 2008
so, here we are, ive updated the firmware from 2.0.1 to 2.1 without a hitch.except ive lost 3G connectivity and EDGE as well (maybe because the baseband is updated), WIFI works fine though and unlike the 1st gen iphone on 2.1, this takes a loooong time to sync.

im thinking the SIM dongle (which by the way is X-SIM) is to be blamed for the lack of 3G signal. will order SIMFREER next week.
