Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by texazzpete(m): 6:20pm On Sep 27, 2008
Not sure what i can do from here, but it's worth a shot to upgrade to 2.1 and quickpwn, just in case it's a software issue.

Ex Inferis may be able to give better advice. . .

Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by logica(m): 1:55pm On Sep 28, 2008

since when did you start calling me Ex Inferis? im Neoteny to you, Neo for short.

im not entirely clear what Redneck, er Recknass, means "safe mode". is it recovery mode? in any case ive had my phone pack up a dozen times mostly hanging at the boot logo and once dropping down to Marvell and staying stuck at shell. in all cases a restore resurrected the phone but you have to manually go into Recovery mode (theres something called Partial Recovery Mode which often generates Error 13).

if you do get into recovery mode just restore to 2.1. if it wont (popping errors) then try going down to 2.0, then up to 2.1.

ive observed that most restore issues are easily solved by going down to a previous firmware and then moving up.

ps: dont pwn your phone with Quickpwn: sometimes it causes iboot to give issues. use winwn 2.0.3 instead, it does a better job.

i should know, ive had hangups as often as twice a week.

hope this helps you.

do you really need to be convinced?

anyway, iphone makes more effizy than the ipod touch. you have countless reasons to whip out your phone and reduce the onlookers to pathetic babbling bags of envy than you have flashing the ipod.

was in the bus the other day, this chick by my side kept fiddling with her N82, i whipped out my iphone samurai-style, made as if i was typing a text and she was slobbering all over me. the thing was awash with apps and bedecked in winterboard themes.

besides you save money buying only one device that does so much rather than shelling for both Nseries and ipod touch.

saw iphone 3G in kaduna with the Sim Freer dongle, price 127,000 naira.

@logica

i checked the site, saw that they require pay pal. my master card is out, how did you get your sim adapter?

Wallahi, this guy is making me green with envy angry angry angry Thank you very much for the info. I knew you wouldnt let me down. I am now ready to get the 16GB Iphone 3G. But as i earlier said, i would rather buy the phone from a place where it is originally unlocked by Apple itself. Cost will also be cheaper and i wont need to to do any serious modding or jailbreaking. Dont forget, zanzo gurin ka for my budan kai. grin grin grin

@Logica

do you get the 3G signal issues I'm reading about all over blogdom? is it an AT&T thing? and how much did the total package cost you, since i don't think you bought the phone on contract.

or did you?
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by logica(m): 1:17pm On Oct 01, 2008
it was actually bought on a contract. i haven't taken note of any 3g problems. the phone isn't mine (belongs 2 an uncle who brought it 2 me 2 help unlock). i plan 2 get mine in a few weeks (options are switzerland and hong-kong).

Time to sleep.
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by logica(m): 4:05pm On Oct 01, 2008
@ ex inferis

matter of fact, i think the 3g signal issue was a 2.0.1 issue (just saw some threads about it). i upgraded the firmware to 2.0.2 before the jb/unlock, so that may explain why i didn't c any such problems.

the literal equivalent of rusty is tsa-tsa (if you an proniunce it), but its not directly applicable in the context you mean.

incidentally, where is paiko?

@logica

ive seen the pricetags in both countries you mention and, this is just me, but i dont thing GPS and 3G are justifiable counterweights to the hefty price of over $600. location-aware apps are all fine and good but i cant find maps for naija, and Google Maps doesnt offer much Points of Interests to bolster these apps.

ive tried Gmaps with the GPS in both N95 (which has a weak receiver) and the N82 (superb). besides very few landmarks there really arent POIs to make it interesting and i cant find free 3rd party maps to satisfy me.

bottomline; im hanging on to the iphone 1st gen until the 2nd gen comes down in price.

afterall, apps for one work just as well in the other.

Paiko is in Niger

Im not dia ryt now sha, i just like the name.

I'm leaving KD by saturday--'hols over dang!'. Went to Micromanna with the intention of checking out an apple for my younger brother but he got carried away by a cheap Compaq with fair enough specs. For 88k I think I'll leave him alone!

lol
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by ExInferis(m): 5:36pm On Oct 02, 2008
compaq? thought it died at the hands of HP?

Micromanna, chima's place. he too is a HP addict, one of the very first to tell people NOT to buy a Mac.

he ought to be shot, or boiled in hot cooking oil or dropped in a vat of acid.

hey Vesc, coming in sunday. how many ways can you think of to kill off a man?

It's in the private/var/mobile/media/DCIM folder
Specifically the 999Apple folder
I assume you're on 2.x firmware?
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by hancock(m): 11:06am On Oct 03, 2008
yep im on firmware 2.0. Thanks 4 d info (wink)
Re: iPhone Killer Apps Section!! by vescucci(m): 4:18pm On Oct 03, 2008
Yeah, Chima's place. When I asked his workers of Apple they acted incredulous so I assumed they were unaware apple made anything apart from iphones. My brother asked another how much a 4GB ipod goes for and he replied that they didn't have 4GB but 8GB which was worth 60k. I didn't get it but my brother promptly informed me that he was confusing the ipod for the iphone. They're still the best place for IT stuff I know in KD.

I moved on to bad old Multimedia and asked for the Macbook and the foolish guy asked me if I knew what I was talking about and how the lappie was a special one. Since I'm incredibly polite I replied that, yes I knew what it was and does he have it. To that question he said no. Do you know how much it is. No again. My brother could not smother a hiss. I remember those guys selling Gameboys at incredibly ostentatious prices when no one had a choice. I still got a bit of bad belle for them.

As for how many ways to kill a man, here are a few

Electrocution
Drowning
Suffocation
A bullet to the head or heart
Beheading
Incineration
Disembowelment
Hanging
Poisoning

Those are the ones I can recall at a moment's notice. Some are the same things said with different words

howzat the n95?

two friends of mine got the iphone 3G (both 16gigs, one black the other white, all cost over 400 pounds with serious negotiations at the store in london before they were sold without contract). i tried the GPS thingy wit Gmaps to drop a pin on my location but seems the GPS receiver has trouble indoors. i tip my proverbial hat to the nokia N82 for the sensitivity of its GPS receiver. it works deep inside my house and im sure that thing will work 50 feet inside a bunker.

nonetheless the phone is sexy but not that much a far cry from the 1st gen iphone, and the plastic back gives me the creeps, that thing looks near about ready to crack.

like i said before, i dont feel overwhelmingly persuaded by what i see to fork out that much money. when the price comes down, im game.
