There is no doubt that it was not a kidnapping operation. In an actual kidnapping operation either planned with a programmed target or planned with random targeting there is usually no time for exchange of pleasantries. Communication is always unidirectional from the hoodlums to you with the expectation of full compliance. Otherwise, the consequence could be fatal. If and when they succeed in kidnapping you it will dawn on you that the distance to the grave could be shorter than that to freedom. |

CODE-EATER: Lol. Those weren't kidnappers, trust me. I have encountered such people 2ce. First in enugu, then again in lagos. If u had gone with them, they would have spun u a tale that the goods were locked up somewhere in a warehouse and the person with the key is not around. Then they will tell you another story about Nigerians coming to their country to campaign and spraying them with "white paper bills" that magically transform into "colorful stickers" when washed with a particular chemical. They will demonstrate it to you and show you a box full of such paper and the proceed to wash some and transform them into 1000 naira notes. The other fellow will pretend to be amazed and pull you aside and tell you that it seems that the other one with the "white paper" doesn't know that he is holding naija currency and that you two should pool resources to buy the whole box and chemical for washing it. If their jazz catch you and if you are the greedy type, you will decide to pay a small token like say 100k to 200k to get a big box full of "1000 naira notes" that you will wash and transform into millions. Unfortunately, that wouldn't be the case, cos you'll realise late that the rest are just white paper and then realize that you have been duped. Now, for those wondering how I know. It has always been a common way to dupe ppl back then when I was younger. In fact, when u hear about 419 back then, it wasn't yahoo yahoo (where u see computer, not to talk about internet), but rather this. So, having been well informed about their tactics, I saw one of them and out of curiousity followed them and saw the whole gimmicks. When they started asking for money, I agreed and told them I want to go withdraw some money and left them and went on my way. Besides, back then, I was still a student and don't even have minimum balance for my account in Standard Trust then. 2 Likes |

A lot of people have confirmed that this is old school 419. Just wanted to add the fact that the guys play on people's greed. A similar thing happened to a friend of ours and before the scammers completed the transaction he hinted one if us and we told him he was in the middle if a scam but he disbelieved us. According to him we don't what his breakthrough. He took three days to get 'their' money through borrowing, begging cajoling etc and he was not clear from the hypnotism. The annoying thing was that he fell victim because he wanted to use the windfall for his marriage. - not even to establish himself in biz. As long as there are greedy people out three these ancient 419 runs will continue. |

PapaBrowne: Eeeeem!! Those kind Asaba kidnappers when dey beg you to come take phone na simple type. The kidnapping when dey happen for other places, it dey be like bank robbery for broad day light. This kind one when you narrate so, you fit take slap threaten dem, them go run!! A high school "friend" I had not seen in 7 years did this to me in my own house! I dont normally believe in diabolical stuff but that day I realised it exists. It had rained on the day he came "visiting" rain and the floor was muddy so we sat outside in the car port. As a chap with an acceptable level of street knowledge, like 30 seconds into his story I knew where this was going. At about a minute in, I couldnt understand what the guy was saying anymore and from then on I just saw his lips move. What happened next shocked me. I made to get up from the sofa I was sitting and it felt like I was glued to the seat! I panicked. I dont know where I summoned the strenght from but I somehow managed to fight the force pushing me down to my seat and I got up and backed up slowly to my front door nodding to the barsteward even though I had long lost any comprehension of what he was saying. I locked the door, shouted out for the house help, ran upstairs and picked up a dusty bible in my room. I randomly flicked it open but I couldnt see anything. The house help came and started panicking saying "brother wetin happen?" That was when I started coming round to my senses. I asked the house help to go outside and let my "friend" out of the compound and tell him I had gone out. I locked the door behind the househelp. I looked on from the window and when my "friend" was told I was no longer around, he calmly stood up and said to the house help "no problem, tell him I came to see him". How can a true friend accept such an explanation without any argument when we had been having a conversation and he had seen me go back into my house barely 5 minutes earlier? That just comfirmed his evil mission. After the incident, I went and researched the dude and it turns out my gentle and meek classmate from years back was now a hardened criminal/cultist who had been rusticated from uni. The moral of my long story: Be wary of "friends" you havent seem in a long time. 1 Like |
