Well I think it depends on which Nigerians you are talking about. Some of the negative behaviour may apply more to some than others. As far as talking loudly on the phone or in public, I see Nigerians talking on the phone on buses in london daily, I have noticed that upwards of 90% that I HAVE SEEN have been from a particular tribe.

As far as being arrogant, it depends on the situation. What some people describe as humility is sometimes just being two faced.

I think even the city you come from in Nigeria can mean you have a particular attitude. I find Lagosians to exhibit similiar behaviour, no matter the tribe (in my experience). However, if you go to other places in Nigeria, you may see that the people generally dont fit into that stereotypes of Nigerians. The average Nigerian is unexposed to most of the other people who are Nigerian, both at home and abroad.

It skews the idea of what a Nigerian is. or rather what is "typically" Nigerian. I get many people saying I am not typically Nigerian because I am rather quiet, granted I was born and raised in the UK, but most of my friends/relatives who are Nigerian born and raised are not loud either.

I do agree with some of the points though, but its mainly the negative characteristics only, many which apply to other nations also.

Anyhoo I guess its all a bit of oking fun at ourselves, thats always good.

as an outsider observing your culture. (my partner, he's nigerian)

it seems like when we visit his friends, they are always hospitable, always offer a plate of food, home-from-home mentality. a bit unusual, but i like it.

many opposites to english culture in a million ways

for example, on a naija persons birthday, the birthday person spends the money, the english way is to shower the celebrant with gifts and money etc.

naija people seem really competitive, which is good, maybe thats why ur so ambitious.

some ppl would think ur aggressive, but i disagree, i think u get excited on the phone.

the only thing that i cannot understand is how much some naija ppl gossip about eachother.

oh and the most obvious one, lol

at both of the universities i went to, why is it that 95% of the black ppl that go there are nigerian international students.

i know that may not be a valid statisitic for the other uni's in uk, but by coincidence, just the two i went to.

lol grin
