Siasia returns to lead Nigeria Olympic team Siasia returns to lead Nigeria Olympic team Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has been appointed to lead the country’s U23 team, according to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). “The Committee also appointed Mr. Samson Siasia as the new Head Coach of the U-23 Men’s Team. He will be assisted by Fatai Amoo, while the Technical and Development will recommend the other members of the crew,” said a communiqué signed by executive committee member Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande. He will be assisted by Fatai Amoo, who was originally Siasia led Nigeria to the final of the football event of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He was also in charge of the country’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles. Three years ago, he was sacked as Eagles coach after he failed to qualify the country to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. [b]Siasia Will Make NPFL Players Base Of U23 Squad New coach of the U23 team, Samson Siasia has said that players from the Nigeria Professional Football League would form the base of his team for the qualifying series for both the All African Games and the Olympic Games. The trainer said that in as much as he has absolute trust in the availability of football talents in the country, he was also mindful of the fact that the AAG and 2016 Olympics qualifying series are not FIFA-listed tournaments. He stated that in other to get the right kind of players to be invited for screening, he had contacted all the coaches of the various clubs in the premier league to give him names of very good players in their clubs. "I have to start an early preparation so that we can pick the best players through elimination by substitution so that we can begin blending of the team before the qualifiers which is billed to commence in February 2015," Siasia disclosed. Meanwhile, the former Super Eagles coach maintained that he is not shutting the door on the foreign-based players as they would be joining the team at a later date when they would be ready to go for the major championship. "The foreign based players, especially some of them in the Super Eagles camp who are still within the age limit, would still make the team but that would be at very crucial point or when we must have qualified. “The problem is that our competition is not under FIFA, so securing their release would be very difficult. But we are sure to get them when we eventually qualify," Siasia told SportingLife. This is Siasia’s second stint in charge of the U23s. The problem here lies with the timing of the qualifiers. Hence, the qualifiers normally fall outside FIFA calender, our young foreign players may not be available thereby hindering our chances of making it to olympics come 2016. 1 Like |

[b] Siasia: I Will Build A Very Strong Team New U23 Eagles coach Samson Siasia has promised to build a ‘very very strong team’ that Nigerians will be proud of, as he gets set to resume work as the Nigerian Olympic football team coach. The Nigerian U23 side failed to qualify for the last Olympic Games in London under the tutelage of Austin Eguavoen. But despite his recent appointment, Siasia has been down this road before - when he led the U23 team class of 2008 to a silver medal finish in that year’s Olympic Games after losing 1-0 to a Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria inspired Argentina side in the final – and he has promised to mould another strong team for his country. “I just want to thank God for the opportunity to serve this country again, and I will do the best I can to form a very, very strong team that Nigerians will be very proud of,” he said. Siasia’s confirmation as the new U23 team boss was announced last Thursday, but he had hitherto been linked with replacing his former Nigeria teammate, Stephen Keshi in the Super Eagles. Keshi succeeded Siasia in 2011 as the Super Eagles coach after the latter failed to qualify Nigeria for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. [b] Siasia Admits U23 Job Will Be Difficult New U23 Eagles coach Samson Siasia has admitted that he faces an uphill task to build another successful Olympic team for Nigeria, following his return as coach of the team. Siasia was confirmed last Thursday as the U23 coach by the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF and will hope to go one better than he did with the team in 2008. And knowing the level of expectations from Nigerians, Siasia has been quick to reckon that it will be very difficult to raise another team, and says it takes ‘a very long time’ to have a strong team. “It’s going to be very difficult because the first game is in February and you know it takes a while to build a very strong team,” he commented. “All we will do is try the best that we can to go through the qualifiers, make sure we win those matches and grow, because if we don’t win those games we can never grow, so we have to work very hard to make sure we win the games that come up in February. “And we hope to build from there, you know it takes a very long time to build a very strong and formidable team.” The former Nantes of France striker is expected to start work in the next couple of weeks and it is also expected that his proposal of having an open screening exercise will be approved. Siasia was confirmed as the U23 team coach last Thursday. The 47-year-old former Flying Eagles coach is also expected to raise a team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, and says because there aren’t any players on any list, he will be having an open screening exercise where interested players are expected to participate. “You know we don’t have a list (of players), we just want to scout, and do an open trial as soon as we agree on it and that’s what I have discussed with Emmanuel Ikpeme (Director of technical at the NFF) and the General Secretary. And we’ll start as soon as they agree because I have already told them when we want to start,” said Siasia. “If it is okay, we will start working with the players we will see and find those ones we think have the talent and put them aside while we continue the screening, and try to build a team while we’re doing that, but if you don’t start, you’ll never finish.” Siasia was in-charge of the U23 team that won the silver medal in the football event of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in China, but his successor and former Eagles teammate Austin Eguavoen couldn’t qualify Nigeria for the 2012 Olympics in London. Siasia's Olympic team begin training camp Nov 3 A new Nigeria Olympic team under coach Samson Siasia will open training camp from November 3, officials have announced. A top official told AfricanFootball.com that the resumption date has been fixed for November 3 most likely to be in Abuja. The training camp will be of players drawn from the domestic league, which is expected to soon be concluded. Former Super Eagles coach Siasia, who led the country’s team to the final of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, has hit the ground running since his appointment was announced last week. The U23s will battle to qualify for the 2015 All-Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville in September as well as the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil. [b] Siasia: I Will Build My Team Around Iheanacho  Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia has confirmed that his next Olympic team will be built around Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho. Siasia has also given a contrasting view on Iheanacho to that of former Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi – who believed the 18-year-old was too young and inexperienced. Siasia praised the talents of Iheanacho and says the Flying Eagles star will definitely be a part of his team. “Of course, definitely he will be (part of the team). You know it’s not about the age anymore it’s about what you can do as a player,” said Siasia. “If Raheem Sterling can play for the national team at 17 and has been playing well there, but they might as well have invited him to the U20 or U21’s but it’s what that young player can give. “Look at the South African team now, most of their players are young players and that’s what we’re looking at trying to build a strong team with.” There has been a debate whether Kelechi Iheanacho deserves a call to the Super Eagles, but Siasia, a former Super Eagles coach himself, has wasted no time in confirming that Iheanacho will be a part of his U23 team. Brush your teeth after dinner You will be surprised when you read this one; this is not only about your dental hygiene, but for your weight loss too Brushing your teeth after dinner extinguishes unsatisfied appetite, the same appetite responsible for dessert indulgences and midnight snacking- two of the primary causes of weight gain. Brushing teeth after dinner is a signal for your mind to stop eating. #2. Enjoy video games The revolution of motion-sensor video games can be used to advantage to shed off those extra calories. Motion-sensor games like Wii’s boxing or Play Station’s Dance Dance Revolution can get you enough exercise to stay fit. Several such games are out in the market that will meet the needs of your daily exercise. So, get moving while enjoying your favourite video games. #3. Use chopsticks to eat We know you are not accustomed to it, but that is what makes this trick worth a try. Studies have shown that eating with chopsticks slows down your eating and makes you feel fuller faster, without gorging on unnecessary calories. Eating at a slower pace helps your brain to grasp that you are full, much more quickly. So, whether it is noodles, pasta or popcorn, next time around use chopsticks to put them in your mouth. #4. Hush! Don’t utter exercise Do not use the word ‘Exercise’ or ‘Workout’ prior to your regime (if you have one). Call it your ‘feel good session’ or ‘stress buster time’. Often usage of words linked to intense physical activities has a negative psychological effect on you, and you tend to back off even before you start. #5. Make some smart swaps Replace all the whites with brown, and no we are not getting racial here. Swap the white bread, rice, pasta, flour, with their whole-grain counterparts. Replace chips and other heavy snacks with the roasted varieties. Swap the calorie-laden beverages with lemon water or healthy fresh fruit smoothies. And, instead of dessert, gorge on fruits like watermelon, banana, or strawberries when you want something sweet. #6. Know what is on your plate Go green to stay healthy, and keep hunger pangs at bay. So, when you are cooking, add more of vegetables to your delicious dishes to make them more healthier and filling, and to avoid opting for a second helping. Apart from these, go for a protein-rich diet as that too makes you feel fuller for a longer time, and also makes you feel more energetic. #7. Eat at regular intervals Do not deprive yourself. It is often deprivation that amplifies your hunger signals. Instead eat at well-spaced intervals, and limit your intake. We are talking about having 4-5 small meals during the day. The interval between the meals should be no longer than three to four hours. It will help you to avoid the feeling of unnecessary hunger pangs. #8. Do not skip breakfast Breakfast gives a kick-start to your metabolism and prevents you from gobbling down calories during other meals of the day. #9. Drink before you eat Often, we are just thirsty but end up consuming a calorie-rich burger and smoothie. Staying hydrated eliminates confusion between thirst and hunger. Apart from water, you can also add lemon to your glass of water for instant energy boost. Also, drinking a glass or two of water before your meal will help you to feel satiated without gorging on calories. #10. Sleep sufficiently Now, nothing can get easier and lazier than this one. According to a survey done by Canadian researchers, those who slept 4-5 hours a day gained considerably more weight (about 2 kg.) than those who slept for 7-8 hours a day, with other factors remaining static in both conditions. Lack of sleep triggers hunger pangs, and slows down the burning of calories. So, if you are not doing this right, then you don’t even deserve to call yourself lazy! Also, when you are out dining, always start by ordering a salad and a soup before the main course to avoid heavy calorie intake. joseph1013:I do not agree Super Eagles players should be called unless for the 3 overaged players for the Olympics. Wilshere for instance doesn't get called for the under 23 any more and he is eligible. Let Super Eagles players concentrate on the Super Eagles. The under 17-23 teams are developmental teams. Competitions in these age grades are meant to unearth players for the national team. We need to stop this win at all cost mentality. |

joseph1013:Seriously, Siasia is still the best for the Super Eagles, he understand the game well. I wish Keshi accepted the fact that not age play football any more these days. However, Siasia just like Keshi finally need to accept that we are in 2014 and not in in the 90s. Players' ego have to be managed, you can't force your ideas on them any more these days and any manager that doesn't accept that fact won't go far. Keshi just like Siasia back then need to reduce ( can eliminate I understand that ) the amount of fall outs with his players. Joseph, good work. arsetalks: My brother, let d best crop of players represent Nigeria. U saying dat Super Eagles players should nt be in the team. U remember that Messi, Aguero, Di Maria and Mascherano were already established players when dey beat Nigeria at d 2008 Olympics final? The Nigeria's dream team 1 sqaud dat struck gold were made up 70% of Super Eagles players. Hey! By the way, the only foreign Super Eagles players that are eligible are Kenneth Omeruo and Imoh Ezekiel. And in my Opinion dey are nt yet established players, dey dnt even play in top leagues yet. Let d best crop of players represent Nigeria pls. And op, I love dat list of home based players. There are some prominent names (for those dat watch d NFPL) on dat list. They should form d bed rock of d team and let d foreign guys come and compete for jessies. |

arsetalks:Coach Keshi was the first to call Iheanacho to the National team. Coach Keshi built his CHAN team around Iheanacho. Nacho absconded from the camp to push his Man City deal. Nacho's absconding destroyed all the work prepared for the team. Coach Keshi actually does not put age over talent. He will call Nacho back. He is just angry that his instruction as a National team coach was disobeyed. Coach Keshi advised Nacho to sign a post dated contracted that kicks off after the CHAN tourney. They signed an immediate contract and he was ruled out. |

thegoodjoehunt3:I dont know how old are you but if you are at least 28-29 years old and have been following football for a while, flash back to 1994 AFCON in Tunis and then you will know Siasia has no moral obligation to insist on players not going to play for their foreign clubs at the disadvantage of their national team. Note, I like Keshi only like Siasia, Okocha and Oliseh more but if we have to call a spade exactly what it is, Keshi's method is the main reason he is not doing well. You can't force players any more, you simply have to MANAGE them. |

arsetalks:Coach Keshi was a player before he became a Coach. He was making the best decision for Nacho. For instance, the Work Permit issues at England is tricky. If Nacho played for the Super Eagles at CHAN, he would have easily qualified as a special talent. His work permit process would have been easy. The boy was not just called up. He was in camp. The tournament was three weeks away. Coach Keshi gave a life line of a post dated contract and a one week break. Nacho abandoned his team mates and the Coach and rejected the advise of the National team manager. Coach Keshi can not be blamed here. |
