Nairaland Political Party? by jensinmi(m): 10:00pm On Feb 03, 2009
After reading the topic What Will You Say Is Nigeria's Problem posted by cyriluzo and the comments of Big B1 about too much talk and no action, I decided. Why don't we start our own political movement?

It appears the older generation of Nigeria are playing a huge part in destroying the future for the younger. For example, look at all these old men in power making life difficult for the babies, teenagers and young adults of tomorrow.

So, I got to thinking. How come there is no youth party in Nigeria? I do believe we can start our own political party o. Yeah. It would be hard as hell, but we've got resources. We also have the knowledge to contact the youth - e-mail, social networking, e.t.c. We really could get people interested in this. Seriously, Nairaland supposedly has 288,088 members - that is enough for CHANGE.

So, What do you think?

I think we can "OBAMA" them.

Jensinmi's dictionary

OBAMA (verb): to pull a fast one the ruling political party using innovative and never before seen means.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you believe we can do this, please begin by suggesting names:

Nigerian Youth Party anyone??

***Also, let me know if you think I'm delusional. I'll gladly appreciate that.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by pixiraver(m): 10:13pm On Feb 03, 2009
I really like the idea jensinmi, all our political leaders should be shot so the new breed can take over, i second we startup a party here, we have the people here on Nairaland that can lead and who are educated enough to rule Nigeria and put us where we truly belong.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by jensinmi(m): 10:27pm On Feb 03, 2009
@pixiraver

Thanks for the support. I do believe we can start our own political movement. It doesn't even have to be Nairalanders. We just need to get our basic ideas set up and then we can spread the word. Word of mouth, Facebook, and other things. A website and all.

I may be going too far ahead with the thinking - "Counting my chicks before the eggs hatch." - Sorry for that
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by Kobojunkie: 10:29pm On Feb 03, 2009
Sounds like a good idea. Not sure I would go as far as making such a political party and making it about Nairaland though. But yes, if this is the way you know to act, then I say you go for it!
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by Kenezi: 10:32pm On Feb 03, 2009
It wouldn't be impossible, although a lot of people here have very different ideologies,

How will you solve the issue of tribalism in this Nairaland's political party?. How will the party allocate positions without one tribe accusing another of nepostism?. I am naturally not partisan but I will stand by and watch closely some other groups that will want to pull a fast one on my peeps.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by Kobojunkie: 10:35pm On Feb 03, 2009
And with that @Jensimi, we announce the dissolution of your dream political party. . . . roflmao!!!
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by BOSS7: 10:38pm On Feb 03, 2009
TO be honest, the idea has got me thinking and I feel it's very possible. I would like to support whichever way we could and I think it's what we can do as a group of youths colletively. It's got me having butterflies in my stomach already.

I believe we'll have the usual troubles which is inevitable in any group but I believe. YES WE CAN.

Come on guys lets be serious, it can really happen, we don't really need to pick someone from nairaland, we can carry out our own researches and come up with candidates that are truly detribalized Nigerians. We need a platform like this to make such dreams happen, Obama used this method to win the US elections, why can't we? Instead of some stupid yahoo boys wasting their precious time sending stupid "I want to be your partner" emails they can devote their time in recruiting people for such dream.

It is possible and i say we should go for it! "Yes we can"
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by Charlesmud(m): 11:04pm On Feb 03, 2009
I read this just now and started laughing while a little drop of water dropped in my eyes (Cant believe it).

If just the 5-10 people here agree, I am IN also, we will be the ones to educate the others and eradicate tribalism making them understand we are brother and there are ways we can solve our issues.(the main problem is unfair sharing and if we tackle this, things will settle a bit)

So am listening my people. YES WE CAN

Truly, if it is a party of intellectuals then tribalism and ethnicity would not be an issue.

Herein lies the problem with nigerian youths - dongonturanci backed with ironclad skeptism.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by pixiraver(m): 6:34am On Feb 04, 2009
I think for a start, we need to give the political party a name, then we draft our agenda, our vision and goals, we start recruiting etc from there we get the structure of the party and believe me you will see youthful Nigerians trooping in to join us. It is time we changed our leaders, even Yar Adua promised the next election to be free from rigging, lets hope he is for once being honest.

frizy where are you,
@post
the best i can do right now is make a general comment,a youth led people focused political party sounds really good in theory, but you have to appreciate the sheer logistics, including tribalism and ethnic distrust which has been a part of nigerians both old and young, also it is imperative that you have a vibrant, visionary, morally upright and with good oratorial skills  who will inspire and be a catalyst for change as leader, because honestly, that is what it ll take to rid the nigerian youth of the cynisim in borne by years of dissappointments, not from the old politicians this time but the student groups, nans, student unions the likes of bankole e.t.c

just my personal opinion.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by latox: 4:13pm On Feb 04, 2009
HONESTLY,

This topic/ issue deserve more than delibration but immediate, organized and articulated actions. we all have to learn from and never forget the courageous effort of TUNDE IDIAGBON, one of the first Nigeria to plan revolution.

let us define the objective of this project, we want CHANGE, all we need to do is to form a formidable youth forum that we champion the cause, we need honest, visionary, young, courageous, well-educated, highly-exposed Nigeria.

we dont need to form a political party per say but, we can throw our weight behind a dependable individual that is well prepared for the job, we need to challenge the GOD FATHERS,we need to challenge imposition of candidates like the case of OPPORTUNISTIC YARADUA/ GOODLUCK, people that are not even ready for the job.

please, Nigerian youth if we dont champion change who is going do it.

personally, if people like DONALD DUKE can come out and contest for presidency i will support him with last drop of my blood.

in hurry, pls dont mind the error, concentrate on the points
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by Charlesmud(m): 8:23pm On Feb 04, 2009
This is something we should all see and notice, even without nobody telling us anything we all are willing to contribute and support without thinking twice.

Meaning we all have one goal, we want a change for ourselves and our country. whatever the obstacle is I'm sure we can fight against it and make people understand that we are one Nigeria so we have to be one with one love.

First this won't be as fast ad some people are saying here, it as to be seriously planned and should be taken serious by serious supporters and contributors. We all have to be determined and understand that once we start then we must finish is with success saying "this betterness and movement start from a group of young Nigerians online" but ending it like I AM ONE OF THEM.

Lastly we have to know those who are willing and where to discuse about Introduction before the main things/objectives.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by jensinmi(m): 5:43pm On Feb 05, 2009
My thanks to both latox and charlesmud for their notable contributions. At this count, our list swells to five people who are highly interested in this project/ party/ forum. I agree with latox that it doesn't even need to be a political party. It can be a highly organized forum that throws its weight behind honest, and truthful individuals.

so far

My sister this wont be any juicy position for anybody, it will be a form of union where any decision or plans cant be accomplished or taken without the total support and agreement from the whole members.

Its more like a paliament were everybodys contribution is needed and if just one is left then we have to fix it, it will be totally different and pure. I personally dont see any problem except that how and when will this happen for real.

I hope people are serious and ready enough just the way they have said, God bless us all.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by pixiraver(m): 8:38pm On Feb 05, 2009
This is no issue of who gets the juice, we are all committed and want the best for Nigeria, we know what Nigeria needs, which is good leadership and we can set the example. I am currently driven to help my country and believe me i don't want to be paid doing it. Let's make this happen i plead with you all, our unborn children will be glad we made this choice, let us be part of history.

Thanks guy, I want you to know I am strongly included and support this.

I'm just waiting to see more contributors and supporters but as you can see they all can talk talk and complain but dont really wanna take part in any action (what a pitty).

I like your idea and opinion on how the whole group think would look like. It doesn't matter that we've not got much people yet. People would join if they see the progress we make. I'm very sure we could all do it. It doesn't matter where we're located. So far we have the NIgerian identity and we know the reasons we're trying to give all for this cause, it'll go down well.

Thanks

Thanks for your words and encouragement, Why I believe we will need more people is bcus of the distance and locations. I believe we should have atleast 2-5 candidates in each location or country abroad and more candidates in Nigeria were I believe its the head-quaters , LOL,

If things are not properly arranged or set then i believe there will be a floop in the middle, we have to maybe start convincing people here to lets make a active positive change together.

If we have more numbers, then we can start to talk about starting. (then I will give me own idea our it should be)
