So what date and time do we agree on meeting online? Is it on yahoo messenger, msn or skype? If we agree on the date, then we can advertise this date on nairaland, villagesquare, facebook etc Believe me guys we will get huge audience.

So what we need now? A website that can provide information on the date of the meeting online, probably our own chat room or something. I volunteered to pay for the domain name and hosting, any web designer in the house?

Sky Blue:

We want as much help as possible to develop a momentum so that this becomes more than us but about "a movement" for lack of a better phrase. The guys on nigeriavillagsquare might have better ways of even setting up communication. The members of the site at least have things they can point to which they can say the did together which is why i think raising awareness there would be a very good thing because there are definately people on there who are willing to act also. What is difficult about directing them to this thread? You can use just provide a link to the discussion and use your connections whatever they might be to get more support and raise more awareness. We don't have to plan this alone and we want to leave an open door for anyone to walk in. We want to generate momentum, don't we? I just saw an article posted by an ex-govenor of sokoto state on the site. Although the article was berated, that is not the issue. The issue is that site seems to attract people who can be of tremendous help (and i thinking journalists and media people). Again, just my 2 cents

I get you bro and yes we need people and ideas, I must say I agree with you but you know people now. They dont seem to believe anything anymore.

So I just thought we should create a ground were we can talk about it then people we lay down issues, well at the same time I have started contacting some of those who I know they will be very interested.

We have to have a place where those of us intereted in this will constantly be talking and atleast we will have were to invite people to, Like in that square some people there will open there mind outside the room.

If you wanna create anything inthere I dont mind, I will response but some people are not taking it serious there anymore only maybe if we can drive them together to a place we can be talking on it then we can keep invite people from both sites.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by SkyBlue1: 8:16pm On Feb 06, 2009
@amosexy interesting link and just goesto show that there is an audience of people who are willing to act and see a change. How did you come about the site and can you possibly inform people there and raise awareness of  what is transpiring here?

A meeting of such is a very good idea but then you have to think of how such will be co-ordinated. Imagine trying to co-ordinate 50 people trying to express their views at thesame time? It might be more effective if people sign up todifferent areas of interest, eg education, open sourcing, journalism and media, governance, health, FOI bill, electoral reform, etc. People can obviously talk on more than one issue, but what such demarcation provides is filtering into smaller more manageable and hence more easily coordinated groups in terms of dicussion. All what was discussed is posted and organised, with plans of actions, etc and people can view everythig from all sectors. We caan outline some basics for everyone , etc.

@Charles just send the villagers the link. We can work together to create awareness for this on diferent sites. Initially people are excited then if nothing happens or it is perceived to be anoter unserious venture the whole thing seems to die out. Hence the aim is to convince people iof the seriousness while they are ready. Getting people from different sites is a good thing cos at the end of the day we all want progress and a good momentum will help.

I think for now, lets just try to be as constant as possible on this forum to check for update and infos. We cant give time or date cus of the cus of the difference in our specific locations.

I dont think any date for anything should be given yet, guys pls lets take this slowly and patiently, Let get members and the little members (15 - 20) can then discuse in a different new place for the next proceedings.

Thats a nice site, but one have to be registered to be able to do anything. Well if you know anyone there or have means to communicate there. . . . maybe you can just try to explain and invite one or some numbers of people to this discussion.

This is why I said we have to know those that are seriously and constantly interested, so we can know were to invite people to cus we cant be talking in different locations it will be complicated.

I can invite people from there as soon as we are able to come up with  name for this union and have a meeting place. I came by the site  from PUNCHNEWSPAPER forum,so i signed up for the membership.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by pixiraver(m): 8:35pm On Feb 06, 2009
Ok, we can do it this way, we list the number of people that are interested, when we get to around 50 we launch a website, on the website we will have people acknowledge their location then set out objectives, which is recruitment. We want people to volunteer and be recruited from various part of the world, then we can pursue our agenda. What do you guys think?

i guess u should be no 7 cos i'm no 6.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by proudly9ja(m): 8:38pm On Feb 06, 2009
Im glad we all are showing interest. This is my thought:

1. The interested ones should keep addig their names to the list which I am doing my best to document on excel. If we get a high enough number,

2a. I will put us all in groups depending on our locations. From there, we can work on a meet. however, if the number is not high enough,

2b. We will suggest a day and time where we all can meet via a conference. At that conference we can trash out some issues.

Let us however, keep debating here. It does not matter how we present our views. We must understand that we are all different and I really respect how we have carried ourselves so far on this threat. It shows that there is hope for our Nation. My dream and i believe OUR dream is a Naija we can all be proud of, a Naija we will be proud to hand over to our children and our children's children.

Also, I thank you guys for agreeing to submit the IDs to me. Just PM them to me. I promise I wont abuse this opportunity.

God Bless Naija

I think also we have to have a place of the concluded and sure people place of meeting and discussing, I think it will be hard to invite people from other sites here to talk about this while we are still listing up people. We should invite to where we are in order of discussion about this.

As for the name, I dont think we need any name now brother. Just brief anyone you know about what we wanna do and explain better to know, I believe they will get the clue of our aim.

LOL, i see you are really into the naming thing. Why I am so weary of names at the moment isbecause that is because such a jtake has become so Nigerianised. PDP - Peoples Democratic part (and yet the most undemocratic party i know), rule of law, 7 point agenda, WAI - war against indiscipline. Don't get me wrong, a name can be a powerful tool and a good thing, something to keep one focused on, however i just don't think it is vital at the moment. We are not forming a political party but a movement, a movement i hope we won't want to lay exclusivity and selectivity to. Do we really want people to feel they are simply joining a new party or something of the sort? Let us consolidate with others from different sites and places first and raise awareness so that people feel free to join and feel empowered enough to relate to the vision and see it as a common vision. Again, just my thoughts. A name can be a big deal so do we want to be in a hurry to just do that now?

I think it would be good if whatever we do, we at least keep updating the nairaland page with progress, etc, as a means of contnuously raising awareness that there is an available outlet and forum with which one can act.

Furthermore, can we get this on the home page?
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by Kenezi: 8:49pm On Feb 06, 2009
It's on the homepage.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by ajadrage: 8:52pm On Feb 06, 2009
The name of this movement is at the moment insignificant, what is significant is that citizens of Nigeria are together taking a decision that the times for lethargy is fast fading and the time for citizen action is fast approaching. This here endeavour might have it's obstacles, but in the many levels of our individual networking, awareness is being generated. Things have got to get better, and the sooner this message is drummed up in the consciousness of as many citizens, the sooner the change that all yearn for is actualised. There are obstacles, like we all are aware of. But like the old cliche says, 'many are called, but few chosen', some of the chosen few are about to be revealed in this here discourse.

Those ones that would make this change occur are beginning to identify themselves in the various avenues of networking that are available to the Nigerian citizen. And even if this does not occur, it serves as a melting pot for those that would identify with it at this infancy stage of a revolution that many had alluded to in the past as to be expected. For all those who are brave enough to discard identities of religion and creed, ethic affiliation and artificial political ideology, for all those who are yearning to put on the all encompassing garb of the Nigerian Citizen, I say kudos. In this struggle, you are not alone, for that is a point that can be made by this endeavour. Even if you seem to stand alone, as long as justice shall prevail, the society can be a better place for humankind. . .

Sky Blue dont you think this sound childish and unserious somehow. We all even see the name of this thread "Nairaland Political Party". . . . very funny

I just want us to use this place to bring-up people,  then we move to somewhere we know it will be just members of this interest and the discussion will be purely on this vision.

Thank you all for all your supports.

@Charles, i was not crazy about the name at all but did not want to state it because I did not want to be discouraging and at present I really don't believe a name is  is so significant plus again, I don't want to discourage anybody. In whatever capacity people want to contribute let them feel free to. If the poster succeeds in getting people here then fine : ). Let us just get people aware and this is not all politics at all, hopefully the scope is beyond such and would be accomodating to anyone with something they want to contribute (time, skills, ideas, action, whatever) even if its to contribute and walk away after. We are all for progress and development in different capacities so hence i would even swallow whatever comments I have about any suggested name cos its beyond that, if we find an amazing name and nothing is achieved, then of what use was the name?  smiley

Re: Nairaland Political Party? by NSNA: 5:07am On Feb 07, 2009
A master plan for this idea, using the Obama case study.

1. Using a forum poll, create a list of media and youth friendly people that everybody can vote for,
running the poll for 2 months after which a winner emerges. everybody then rallies around the winner.

2. Everyone should get behind 1 candidate and start to write articles about the person, make youtube clips, blog blog blog ang blog and share links about the person using facebook. Use your influences to get your friends to do the same. All of this activity should start ASAP

Two people that i think should be in the poll list are Donald Duke and Pat Utomi
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by pixiraver(m): 8:15am On Feb 07, 2009
I don't think we should suggest just Donald Duke and Pat Utomi, there are other people there which we can suggest, we should add more people to the list.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by lexyman(m): 9:08am On Feb 07, 2009
let's take it slowly, we can'nt achieve anything by rushing it , i guess it will take nothing less than 5yrs to get something concrete done. The idea of NPP is nice, but alot of work need to be done
we have to carefully scrutinize every moves and steps we plan to make . i so much believe it will workout fine but the question is ''hw do we knw a sincere leader?
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by innocentoh(m): 10:54am On Feb 07, 2009
I know they are many Charlsemud and Latox out there. People that think "POSITIVITY". People that think "CHANGE". Always saying "YES WE CAN". So what else do we need for the change to a better Nigeria that we desire so much. I've read through this topic and the wonderful contributions (not only that of Charlsemud and Latox but also of other positive minded Nairalanders. So sorry 4 not mentioning all the names) and have conclude that all we need to actualise the change we all dream about is to take the first bold step like we are doing on this forum. I am in total support of this idea but like many have said, it should not start as a political party but as a forum or a movement if you like. We shouldn't wait to have large number of people indicating their interest before we can kick off. We should just start and I bet you! even those who doubt this now will definately have a change of mind. I am ready for this,
Nairalanders are you ready?,
Dont forget! Ventures like this always come with a price. Both a price to be paid and a price to be recieved. So we should be ready for both.
Well, see you when we get there.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by SkyBlue1: 11:21am On Feb 07, 2009
@amosexy just wondering if you have posted an invite or raised awareness on the site you posted earlier on.

@Kenezy is it possible to have the title of the thread changed? The reason I raise this is because there are already people coming in with the idea that this is some political party. Isn't such far from the primary dimension even if it could be one of the many dimensions? Someone suggested something earlier and what if we just change the thread name to Nigerian Social Movement? This is not a "name" per se but for now it better encompasses in a more wholesome way what such a union stands for, just something that is more inclusive because it shows it is not just for Nairaland but goes beyond that. Social because it covers many dimensions and is ultimately about us all acting together as well as welcoming anyone who wants to. Movement because it is hopefully beyond politics and governance but cuts into every strata of Nigeria and something that can hopefully be sustained by a shared and common vision of people wanting to see a change and act towards it.

Finally, could we start preparing a basic but more specific online meet? We could then discuss on the ideas and plans I am sure we all have or could work towards. Since this whole thing is meant to cut through all starta of the Nigerian situation, the sectors people could join could be, Elections 2011, Governance, FOI Bill, House of Assembly and senate, Education, Health, Media and Journalism, Politics, etc. This will make coordianting discussions easier and after meets are concluded what was discussed in all areas as well as plans, strategies and capacities in which we could act would be displayed for all to see. People could of course join in more than one sector, or the alternative could be holding meets in one area per day. I just think it would be better manageable if it is all split in one day and then any additions by someone who could not be in another sector can be posted later.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by sashbaby(f): 11:41am On Feb 07, 2009
but i thought you guys said political party.anyway after going through the thread am in.there's no harm joining this positive movement.i dont think we should start suggesting names.it should be thrown open anybody interested in various positions in the movement should signify and elections made.we should lead by example in how we conduct our selves and elections.then nigerians will take us serious.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by SamMilla1(m): 11:42am On Feb 07, 2009
i guess you guys know the story of Savannah bank ?
it was pulled down because the major shareholder wanted to run for president.

Nairaland is too small for this crooks to ban in one day just to serve their selfish interests.

If you wanna form a movement based on the members of this forum,
you can create a group in a foreign based popular medium,
say facebook, and direct members there once in a while.
Which also means taking traffic away from nairaland partially,
bad for private business.
Re: Nairaland Political Party? by Charlesmud(m): 1:19pm On Feb 07, 2009
Good day everybody !!!

First I must say THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL PARTY OR MOVEMENT

Secondly, I'm sorry to say this but this ways is becoming too messy. I dont see why we have to go to all sites inviting people to what we havent even strategize, no need for rushing or any form of exitment.

If we dont relax and do things in accordance, this will breakup. Mind you all some people might wanna join for badluck purpose. I dont think we need all the whole world for now cus we are nt yet balance. we wont be able to have anwsers if we are too much at a start.

Some group of people have to discuse about this first, then whoever joins after will contribute and his ideas or opinion will also be used but if we are 50 at once . . . NO decision can be made cus of the current mentality of people (Nigerians).

I'm just saying my own o, I am not joking with this so I suggest we act more maturely and think twice before just rushing things or bringing the whole world for what we ourselves are not certain for now. we only have this idea for now and we have to make it solid first b4 bringing majorities.

Sky Blue I have contacted some of my friends abroad and they have replied me, so what will I tell them now when we dont have a certain pls of discussion ?

We need to take this step by step.

Yes I agree with you that we dont need majorities for now cus we wont be able to strategize, if things are much more in-place then we can bring in people and we all work together. But at the moment we can do anything if we are 50 or so.

Charles, i keep asking how do we need to proceed? Do we list our own ideas? I have mentioned things we need to do, before we proceed we need to form a uniform movement with our ideas, agenda etc then we can start inviting people to join. We do need people from facebook etc we can easily reach out to lots of people via such medium.

We have to start now believe me guys, 2011 is just around the corner and there is so much that needs to be done. Yes we need to act maturely yet swiftly.
