People don't seem to understand that Edo has borrowed just as much as it has given to Igboland. The days of their calendar were taken from Igboland and they even have an Igbo influenced deity named Ikegobo from Ikenga, the deity of the right hand. So to talk about Edo cultural hegemony in Igboland would be wrong especially among the Western Igbo who have historically fought off Benin suppression.

In you op, you gave the impression that Igbo 'borrowed from' or 'modelled after' Benin women in dressing. If you stated they were similar that's understandable and unarguable but you made bit sound like they 'stole' 'copied' from, hence the contest.

And yes i agree that some igboid group came into contact with edo with a little influence

Now we are talking. You just prove yourself to be sane and I hereby withdraw any abusive statement made against your person.

Igbos did not steal or copy Edos. They modelled their system "LIKE" that of the Edos.

Your statement seems somewhat plausible. Unlike your brothers/sisters here.

If i say Edo women also copied Igbo dressing, how does it sound? My friend, these were one people that we can't even trace their origin or history. It is only plausible they share same customs and way of life. But to say that everything about Igbo was copied from Edo is a dumb overstatement. Stay in your lane!

Where did I say EVERY IGBO?

Words, words, words again. If I speak now, you'd accuse me of spoon-feeding you with words.

The percentage of Igbo land that had monarchical systems "AKIN" to the Edo system is far higher than those without such. Hence, by virtue of percentage, generalisation is free to occur except declared with exceptions.

So now you point is that Igbos produced beads right?

Maybe you dont know that the first bead import to the shores of Nigeria was at the behest of a Benin Oba.

I wont even argue on that because it relegate my intellectual acuity.

I have nothing against the Igbos. Heck, I am half Igbo. I also have no aversion to the Edos. I am not even one.
My point is simple, where cultural groups come together, one is usually dominant and its dominance reflects directly or indirectly in the surrounding groups. The Igboid groups I know and can account for were influenced by Edo kingdom. You can continue arguing this for 10 years. I'll stand my ground with even more proof.
You still on the bead thing! OMG! Igbos were already importing Venice and Egyptian beads.
Any group is free to use coral beads according to their fashion sense. Stop with the bead issue,it's so stale!
