olumide4christ: Different strokes. Peace of mind and improved security cannot be easily monetized. Not to mention extra facilities...most people will not own a gym or a pool in their own houses. The service charge i pay is a fraction of what I would have been paying as rent in my location. |

It's relative . But to buy is better if you want to live longer . believe me stress of acquiring a land is crazy and dangerous, to build it is another case. The engineer would always short change in the quality of the decking especially, and most likely for a novist.but buying you can get experts to access before buying, stress free.It really noteworth to buy 1 Like |

thirdeye: When you consider the case of buying one of the houses in estates in Lagos such as Festac, FHA, Abesan Estate etc., then the argument in favour of buying over building greatly increase. The quest to build has turned many to villagers, building houses in remote parts of Ogun state... constantly faced with security problems... traveling great distances to get to work... getting separated from friends and families... I could continue... |

building is actually the best. because u can build to it taste.. but sometimes you might be unable to get a vacant land at the preferred place you would like... let's say ur dream is to have a house in VGC.. where u wan see the vacant land buy? so in such a scenerio, u have no choice but to buy. |

SYLVESTER777:Building from scratch is better because you will build to your on satisfaction and no demolition, is to your best plan and depending on how your incomes comes, it can be bit by bit, but buying a building is more cheaper if you have money at hand. |

I understand all the comments about saving money but those talking about taste, una never see houses for sale wey pass your taste. If you have good money, you can get your taste. How many of you wont like a Linda kind of house? |

well.... it all depends on some factors...while building a house from the scratch is better as it offers you flexibility of design among others, if my QS and valuer believes the built house is worth far more than the asking price, then its a good deal...# cost VS Benefits analysis...shikena |

The choice would depend on a lot of factors. And you have not given adequate information for the advise to be properly channeled accordingly. However, for general discourse, the choice to build a house or buy an already made one would depend on the priorities of the intended user. it's as easy as deciding if you should buy a dress or get a bespoke tailor to design one. I think 3 things need to be placed into consideration, Budget, Time and Taste. Like every project, the concepts of Time Quality and Cost would play with your intellect a little bit, but one has to be sacrificed for the others to work. BUILDING ONE TASTE Are there available vacant lands in the area of choice to build one from scratch and is your design actually buildable using readily available building technology? BUDGET Is the intending party able and/or ready to commit resources to build to taste? TIME How urgently is the house needed. Do you have the patience to wait till one is built to the above taste and budget? BUYING ONE TIME Would you be patient enough to wait till you find your dream house on the market to actually get and own one? Would it take you as long as it would, if you had to build one yourself provided its possible to do so? BUDGET Can you afford an already built property that meets all your tastes even if it stretches your budget? TASTE Lets say after the two points above, you found one and you can afford it, great. Is it in your ideal location and design? Would you be ready to compromise on your taste to get what is available? It might be close but it might not be the same as what you had in mind, some get better, some get discontent. In general, see this as shopping for clothes and you cant be wrong. Customized things are always desirable, but other factors could make you chose one that already exists. Its all in the priority of the end user. |
