This is true,I listened to what they did  and it was right Dora should first talk to the Government to create a positive in Nigeria then we can talk of re-branding,can you imagine Dora saying that pepps that throw dirts on the roads are not the government, parents should keep their kids in Nigerian schools and the BBC reporter pointed out to her that she trained her own kids abroad.

These Nigerian leaders are really shameless. Their insincerity is open for all to see but they have no shame again and would still honour interviews that would expose their insincerity time and time again.

Maybe they need to learn a thing or two from Mr Jose Eduardo Dos Santos. If they crave the popularity Obama has, they should do what he does and ignore the lure of the playing the game 'I have more zeros in my account than you'.

A thing that a lot of us do not understand is that the bad image Nigeria is getting is affecting us Nigerians and it will get worse! Infact if anyone should be rebranding, I think it is Nigerians all around the world themselves. Its like a family name with a bad name, it is those who bear the name that have the responsibility to 'rebrand' it.

Im surprised that people laugh at Dora's effort to rebrand the country. I am not in support of her methods either but I cannot be against someone who is trying to change the attitude of foreigners towards me. We know government we have is crazy, but should we continue to allow that to affect us? Nigerians all around the world are working hard to make a name for themselves but they have to work 4 times harder because of the name Nigeria. People eye us with suspicious eyes. As Nigerians, it affects us every where we go.

This BBC documentary does us more bad that good. We may be laughing at Dora but she is the information minister, she was NAFDAC head, her children are prolly in best schools in the world and don't have to work as hard as some of us. The bad name almost does not affect her. She goes around with a diplomatic passport, she is not subjected to crazy and funny searches at airports. We are the ones who suffer all this rubbish.

Whichever way, whether in support of Dora or not, we need rebranding. In reality, The news spurned by the western media is much more magnified than it really is.

An example: Everywhere I go, my friends ask me if the 'war' in Nigeria is over and I ask them which war? Their response is the Niger Delta war and I tell them its just with a small region and its not even in the scale of what we will call war. I don't blame them for this, its the news the media gives to them that they will believe.

@ow11

i quite agree with you , our leaders are shameless.

@otukpo

the moment Nigerians get it into thier heads that the world has moved on beyond the colour of the skin "'oyibo", "green" yellow'', black". and focus on the individual mindset and knowledge and wisodm on what can help this country that is the beginning of addressing our problems.

I think oyinbo can start helping us by rejecting any corrupt kobo that gets into their banks, instead of enjoying profits accruing from the loots and claiming to be holier than thou.

you made all the points. No one would allow his/her family name to be like 'shit' in the eyes of other families.

We shud join hands with Dora to make this work. Liking her methods or not, The Rebranding should continue.

It won't be a good thing if we @ 49 still can deny our 'family' name, Nigeria.

I wonder if you realise that most of the banks in question are not owned or run by their respective Governments. And that it is not the banks' duty to vet the source of the monies being deposited there. There are lists of banned individuals and groups (such as groups associated with terrorism, terrorists) that cannot open accounts in any of the western banks. However it is extremely unlikely that banking facilities would be denied to individuals with no proven conviction for illegal embezzlement.

Why would a swiss bank refuse a deposit from Lucky Igbinedion when Nigeria has never been able to convict him (i.e prove convincingly in a law court) that he stole money? You and i know he stole Edo State blind, but since your country is too lazy and corrupt to nail him and his ilk, in the eyes of the law he's clean grin

It makes no difference but they are just as bad and are trying to justify their demonic/animalistic actions i.e trying to paint themselves as Jesus compared to the leaders when infact they are much more worse.

When the chief and elders of the family with a bad name live up to their name by raping, stealing and committing all sort of atrocities that gave the family a bad reputation and earned them the bad name. You think the grand children can change that by going through town to chant “WE ARE NOT BAD, OUR FAMILY IS THE MOST HONEST’?

Did haliburton force OBJ and co to collect bribe? Don't be mad "oyinbo" people can play the game better than you guys. Asians have smartened up while africans are still blaming oyinbo.

As usual, the government flunky takes the pie full in the face, while blustering through a hearty defence of the indefensible.
At the end of the day, you can't knock the hustle.
I feel you, Dora. Next five years, we'll have forgotten all this ever happened.

honestly nigeria shouldn't care about it's image to countries that will always hate it.

like one of the ppl said just focus on the basics and make a good country, they should stop spending money trying to convince others we're good ppl, if they see otherwise they see otherwise, why fight it? are they jesus christ?

Lol, I found this documentary very amusing, especially Dora Akunyilu, The woman lives on her own planet, she talks such rubbish. I think these Hausas have given her some sort of 'ontoo' to drink,

The BBC hates Nigeria, this is well known but I am still grateful for any chance to hear anything about my country.
Re: BBC Documentary On Rebranding Nigeria by maxsiollun: 7:04pm On Oct 22, 2009
proudly9ja makes a very good point. It is not just the Nigerian NATION that needs to rebrand, the people need to rebrand too and present themselves in a better light.

Like I said, you may not like Dora's methods (I don't too) but using your analogy, should the grandchildren then sit down and fold their hands and allow people to call them rapists and thieves because of what the chiefs and elders do? What's more painful is that the people who maltreat the grandchildren for the sins of their elders will not dare maltreat these elders.

My point is, Ibori, Igbinedion, Kalu, etc and all the thieves in Government do not suffer the maltreatment and name calling we the average Nigerians get all around the world. Their children can afford to go to the best schools and no embassy dares refuse them visa. We are the ones who go through strict and almost impossible visa requirements, we are the ones who suffer the indignity at airports when we travel, we are the ones who get laughed at by our mates from other countries and therefore, we need REBRANDING.

Im proud for instance of what the Nollywood people are doing even if Im not really a fan. At least my African friends are quick to commend our home videos. We the people also need to promote other seemingly good areas that make us proud Nigerians.

I dey feel you. You have made a lot of sense. We are so quick to blame everything on the next man, It is the government, it is some other tribe, Our leaders are corrupt because we ourselves are not so much different from them, always trying to cut corners and then feeling smart about it.

Every individual Nigerian needs rebranding. let us all start to do things the right way.

Such a shame!
Madam Rebranding doesnt understand that respect is not demanded, it is earned!
I wonder how much ghana spent on re-branding, since everyone now acknowledges her strides both in governance and in infrastructure.
Maybe she should start by sending her kids schooling abroad back to Nigerian federal schools. angry
Yeye, she must be high on some cheap kunu if she thinks people will respect you because you shout on rooftops and ban every movie that mentions your name.

Rebranding Nigeria! Na with mouth? Sort out the problems from the root and the country would rebrand itself. Otherwise it's like painting a sepulchre, there's still a corpse in there. cry cry
