@op for your info, not all tribes bear Bello as the easterners don't bears such name. The name emanated from Ilorin where we have the Yorubas, Fulanis and the Hausas cohabitating and they have to share so many names such as Giwa, Bello etc

Oga,how about Dele Giwa who was from Edo state?
Re: Origin Of The Name Bello?! by joy2000: 2:23am On Oct 02, 2017
Bello is simply a Muslim name, so any tribe can bear it,because Islam cut across all tribes and nations as a universal religion.

In my place, there is a saying that it's only a bast@rd that does not know the meaning of his surname.

And you are surely a hopeless bastard.

As I am also called Bello myself.... i realised it's an italian name meaning beautiful... also here in Germany most of my italian friends attest to my findings anytime I tell them my name is Bello dapo... they emphasised on how beautiful the name is in italian.... the only explanation to the name crossing to Nigerian was the Roman Catholic missionaries..... As most people belief it's a Muslim name which is not... not in the Qur'an and never an Arabic name

The Nigerian Bello seems to be Arabic in origin. From the Fulani's use of the word.

Wikipedia/Google needs an update.

Your message just proof your scope of reading..... it's never an Islamic name neither was it an Arabic name you can make little research...... As funny as it were the guy you were shading was actually right..... go to italian and Spanish names or if you have any italian friend... you will realise the name is like every other popular indigenous name... go to Islamic name and Arabic name you won't see Bello.

i dont know. just a common last name in the North and SW.
I had a white co-worker back in the UK some years ago. I thought her last name Bello was from spanish or italian origin till she told me that her great grand father was a yoruba student who lived in the UK in the 1950's.
The black in her had been completed diluted.
