Bello is simply a Muslim name, so any tribe can bear it,because Islam cut across all tribes and nations as a universal religion.

Thank you!

Don't know how you came to the conclusion that all tribes bear this name, definitely not my tribe.

The fulani version is Ballo and Yoruba version is Bello, the same with Spanish version. I also have a wife with surname bello she didn't even know the meaning. She said they are from Ilorin and also resembles Bororo. Pics later.

I am sure Usman Dan Fodio did not speak Latin in the 19th century, yet his son was called Muhammadu Bello. Let's agree that the Latin Bello and the Fulani Bello are different words that by coincidence happen to look similar.
mr man fulani people dont ve original name they answer anything like LGA name if u go to north u will see fulani names like alhaji tofa of tofa town alhaji bauchi of bauchi town,

@op for your info, not all tribes bear Bello as the easterners don't bears such name. The name emanated from Ilorin where we have the Yorubas, Fulanis and the Hausas cohabitating and they have to share so many names such as Giwa, Bello etc
Senator Ita Giwa_cross river , Odion Bello of AIT from Niger delta

Bello is fulani name, the correct pronounciation is Ballo and it means helper.
Exactly! Remember DanFodiyo's son, Sultan Bello over 200 years back before we had anything to do with Europe, let alone borrow their names.

Bello is an Italian, Spanish surname from bello 'handsome/beautiful' (Late
Latin bellus), hence a nickname for a handsome man. In medieval Italy
the word was also applied as a personal name, which also gave rise to
the surname.

Source : Wikipedia.
This didn't explain how it became so popular in Nigeria.

As I am also called Bello myself.... i realised it's an italian name meaning beautiful... also here in Germany most of my italian friends attest to my findings anytime I tell them my name is Bello dapo... they emphasised on how beautiful the name is in italian.... the only explanation to the name crossing to Nigerian was the Roman Catholic missionaries..... As most people belief it's a Muslim name which is not... not in the Qur'an and never an Arabic name
