Yoruba's real word for Father is “Ba" but interchange sometimes with Baba because If you hear or listen to Yoruba's dialect being spoken, you will hear Ba'ré(your father) Ba'mi(my father) . Lastly, Yoruba didn't borrow such words from Arabs because such words had been with Yoruba ancestors for ages. Are you saying Yoruba borrow ARABA ( Supreme IFA PRIEST ) Which is same with Jewish's RABI( TORAH PRIEST)? too many words that are similar yet not borrowed from anyone but of Yoruba origin

Check the previous pages ..... Some explanation on how ballo became bello was provided... Not my business though.
The fact that a writing is long doesn't denote it to be true. Somebody quoting 500yrs ago Spain and Muslim and Latin America. Doesn't just add up... I can also write the same to make you take my point.

Hello people,

I was curious, just wanted to know the origin of this name. I've noticed that all tribes bear the this, so anyone who knows can educate us.

Thank you!

The name originated from the yorubas in the olden days,

It was actually coined out from an incidence that happened between a wife and a husband,

During argument between the husband and the wife, the following argument ensue.

The husband gave the wife a bam to the wife to help use to rub the body, but fortunately, it fell down from the husband, so the wife was telling the husband to pick it up,

But the husband disagreed and told the wife to bend down and use it.

Which means "Béré kó ló" in Yoruba (bend down and use it)

So from there they coined out "Bello from it

Believe that write up at your own peril grin cool

Lmao no chill

It is a Fulani name with its root name being Ballo. Many Fulani names end with the letter "o". Like Galo, Gajo, Ballo/Bello, Bajo, Gelajo, etc. etc.

The Arab word for baba is father, which is correct but isn't as used as Abba or Abouna

Bello in Nigeria is a 100% Fulani name by origin. It got into other tribes (Especially Yoruba) during Dan Fodios Jihad.

Dan fodio did not bring jihad into Yorubaland.
