The e- open heavens is even cheaper than hard copy; if it is for the money it will cost more; but they have staff and workers too.

At a time when people share Bibles for free, why should sharing part of a devotional be an offence except if the person doing the sharing is making money from it. It shouldn't be all about making money.

You are very wrong.

The material sent over whatsapp broadcasts are usually properly referenced. Credit is given to the source i.e the Open Heavens Devotional.
Also, only a section is sent at a time not the entire material.

This rules out any illegality you have inferred. Read up "Fair Use Exemption in Copyright Law"

Please, don't misinform the public just to score cheap points.

There are usually four factor test to consider when considering the issue of fair use.

1. The purpose and character of your use

2. The nature of the copyrighted work

3. The amount and substantiality of the portion taken, and

4. The effect of the use upon the potential market.

Sharing via whatsapp satisfy these four factors test above. There is no issue of copy infringement here

They lack basic knowledge of the law,there is no copy right law on religions publications,music etc. What they forgot is that all the quotes,citations etc are from the bible to which they didn't obtain any copy right. If the redeem church is truly out there to win souls wouldn't it have called for celebration and encouragement for more people to have access to this write up that often times is full of plagiarism. I stand corrected to say the REDEEMED CHURCH IS ON THE WRONG PATH.

Hmmm...There was a time I was away from home for some time(where my hard copy open heavens is);but I didn't lose touch with my spiritual day-to-day worship cos of the daily broadcasts I get on watsapp.The gospel should be shared;not left for those who can afford/have access to it. I hope they really what they r doing...

Although I am not a member of this particular church, I think you guys are not understanding the greater point of the situation.
Regardless of what the reason(s) may or may not be, the church institution actually is a business (in a sense). Anytime, finances are involved, legalities come into play.
They have a right to allow or forbid how their material is shared...point blank.
If certain individuals have wrong motives for making this decision, then that is for God to deal with.
It neither negates nor excuses what those who have been sharing it (with good motives) NOW have an obligation to do.
They have said to stop sharing it without their permission...so that's what folks have to do.
Perhaps folks can now venture out in faith, create their own devotional and allow free access to everyone...however they want to do it.
Yes...Christ wants all to have His Word in their hands...but to print Bibles is not free.
Money is involved be it through donations or however funds are generated.
Same thing for an operating institution.
Remember folks, this is a devotional...an encouraging and beautifully written devotional....but it is..NOT the Bible....
Perhaps, folks need to go back to the original blueprint.

In other words, it is illegal to spread the word of God unless you pay. This letter tells you what is at the heart of RCCG: the money they make from selling these things as opposed to spreading the word.

Funny world we are. I have had issues with some friends who are fond of sending me broadcast daily, cos I see it as a nuisance, what exactly is interesting about that devotional? I rather read the likes of ODM and Seed of destiny which are brief, concise and easy to assimilate than waste time and energy read that voluminous stuff
