Throwback:

Prof Dike Kenneth was made vice principal of the University College Ibadan ahead of the most senior African on the academic board and first ever Nigerian professor, Prof. Oladele Ajose.

Dike's appointment was facilitated by the Igbo dominated NCNC who had also installed Dr Akanu Ibiam who was the first Igbo doctor, as the School Council chairman. While Oladele Ajose was most senior and readily available at the school, Dike was called back from the USA where he was on an unfinished sabbatical, to come take a position (Vice Principal) he wasn't the most qualified for.

When the British eventually withdrew their administration of the school, Akanu Ibiam as School Council Chairman, further ensured that Kenneth Dike who was a fellow Igbo like him, became the first Nigerian principal of University College Ibadan. Professor Oladele Ajose realised that he was forever going to remain a victim of the NCNC and Igbo version of "merit" system that only found the Igbos qualified for positions that their better educated and more experienced Yoruba superiors did not qualify for. Ajose read the Igbo writing on the wall and moved to the Western Region owned University of Ife, to become its first principal.

Prof Kenneth Dike and Akanu Ibiam led school council would eventually go on to conduct recruitment into UI after the departure of the British. Out of 115 new hires, only 3 were Yorubas while the bulk of the remainder were from the Eastern Region.

That is how Igbos practice a merit based system.

The foolish Yorubas who were members of NCNC were never offered any sensitive position in the NPC/NCNC partnership of the first republic. Not even the Eastern minorities were offered critical positions.

All that was good that the Northerners could not occupy, the Azikiwe led NCNC ensured it went to the Eastern region, and ultimately to only the Igbos of that multi-ethnic Eastern Region.

Yoruba revisionists always think that they can turn history to favour them, who does not know that in pre independence Nigeria, Igbos where more exposed, educated, ambitious, welly travelled and adventurous,as its obtainble today.
The colonial masters were said to be more at home with Prof. obi, going by his exposure, training abroad and managerial know how, they couldnt risk giving an institution of that magnitude to an ill-exposed prof. Whom may plunder there legacy and in those days,as it is now,Yorubas are not so good in managing big establishments, they are more inclined to social life, wasteful celebrations(Owambe),extravagancy etc
Little wonder how multinational companies that where forcefully collected from whites, through an obnoxious law known as 'nationalization',formulated by Awolowo and co,which was hurriedly implemented in early 70's,just shortly after the civil war,so as to prevent Igbos who where just coming out of a bloody war, from participating in the bids. Fast forward to present day,all such companies as criminally acquired by Yoruba elites are all folded up or in the verge of collapse. I think most yorubas are bad managers, prefers partying to work,i stand to be corrected.

LOL YOU WISH. IGBOS ARE THE PROBLEM OF THIS NATION.... AGUIYI IRONSI DESTROYED OUR CONSTITUTION THAT WE ARE YET TO RECOVER FROM.... MADE THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT ALL POWERFUL, THE SAME WAY YOU PEOPLE WIPED OUT THE POLITICAL LEADERSHIP OF THE NATION THAT WAS ACCOUNTABLE TO THE REGIONS.... YOU STILL WENT AHEAD TO START A NEEDLESS WAR...AT THE SAME TIME CRYING FOUL...

So, I was just in my office in the US relaxing (jejely) after a meeting, when I saw the post of UNN, Nsukka's provisional admission list released by the registrar Chris Igbokwe. So, I took a few minutes of my break time to peruse the names. I observed that over 99% of all the newly admitted students are ALL Igbos. Out of the over 15,000 admitted students I could only count about 10 confirmed Yoruba names. In fact, many of the departments do not have a SINGLE non-Igbo student admitted. This is a federal University for God sake! 99% from the same region! We understand that its situated in the East but haba take it easy Igbo people. When the Hausas do it, you are always the first to condemn them. The problem is that my Yoruba people in the SW will be the ONLY ones admitting people based on merit from across the country to the detriment of our own people - because we want to be seen as decent human beings. The Hausas and the Igbos do not give a fvck. The are just too tribalistic. We should start doing in the SW what the Igbos are doing in Nsukka - No more admission for Igbo students in UNILAG etc. until the Igbos change their ways.

When did NCNC start to dictate to British who to appoint vice principal or chancellor of the college owned by the British? Sometimes most Yari.ba think they have monopoly on distortion of facts. Tribal politics was introduced in tertiary schools in western region by Awolowo and Action Group.

Yes Prof Biobaku was stabbed by a single Yoruba student who ended his life in a psychiatric home.

He was a Yoruba like Ademoyega, Banjo and Fajuyi, who were not like their tribalist Igbo friends.

Meanwhile no one has had the courage to take up my challenge above that is a mission impossible.

Even on the other thread that I first made the challenge, my Igbo debater has surrendered and run for cover.

Just 10 names each in the field of Medicine and Law, before the year 1900.

It's no surprise why the fear of "Igbo domination" was as popular as modern day pop culture back in the first republic... And can you blame the paranoia of the Yoruba and the rest of Nigerians at the time? I mean the best academicians then were Igbos, civil service was Igbo controlled, politically we held sway with giants like Zik(even though he was too nationalistic, was never his fan), military we had the best Sandhurst trained officers and NCO's, including those commissioned from the officer ranks... we were like first in everything even dominating our host on their own turfs in other regions... Little wonder Ahmadu Bello bluntly pointed out his ill feelings about Igbos natural proclivity to always dominate others in that interview with an European journalist which is still on YouTube, they always saw as as invincible, that's why the Northerners backed by the rest of Nigeria and foreign powers did all they could to exterminate the Igbos in the Nigerian Civil War, post war policies were implemented to reduce Igbos to beggars, but they only succeeded in one thing... Which was reducing our political status quo knowing fully well another Igbo attempt at rising politically should bring back the good old fear of Igbo domination... But they failed to stifle our glory in other endeavors of life cause we are NATURALLY a blessed race, too resilient to beg! Yorubas took over everything we left during the war and began the beautiful brides of the North with all the alliances they formed, yet Igbos still closed the gap left by the berth created by the war which destroyed the best cream of Igbo talents... we closed that gap in no time and today who leads in education, human capital growth index, sustainability and commerce? facts are there to know the answers to those questions

I still make bold to know no ethnic group in Nigeria would have endured 1/10th of what we suffered in that war to emerge unscathed few years later, even the Yorubas would have been an extinct nationality if they experienced the horrors of the war! Let's not even talk about Northerners cause they are naturally not resilient people

This is a disgrace!

Just name 10 Igbo Doctors and 10 Igbo lawyers before the year 1900, and I will name 10 Yoruba's for each profession who were the second generation of Yorubas with such education at the time.

Okay, maybe this is mission impossible for Igbos. Just name 10 university educated Igbos as at 1900, and I will still fulfill my own end of the bargain.

We are not challenging that Igbo's did not have their own firsts later in the 1900s toward independence in 1960. For every Igbo first achieved much later, there is a double Yoruba firsts achieved before Igbos even knew what was called a grammar school or secondary education.

Name the educated Igbo's that existed and contributed their expertise to their society before 1900, and prove that Yorubas were illiterates in the jungle of Yorubaland as at the time the Igbos were educated, as claimed by an empty headed Igbo.

And of course, you know Prof Dr Oladele Ajose was the first professor of any discipline in Nigeria, making your list a worthless attempt to debate Yoruba academic prowess in comparison to our catch-up Igbo pursuers.
