what I like is the fact that these elders are trying to protect a "custom" & endear a moral standard. this act has virtually been eroded in many Nigerian societies. The words of our elders are words of wisdom. #TakeHeed

The Tiv Area Traditional Council (TATC) in Benue State has banned the practice of holding festivities in the house of a bride's parents during traditional marriages on the ground that such party-like activities are alien to their culture and is now abolished.

"The practice of holding festivities in the house of the girl’s parents popularly known as Traditional Marriage involving cutting of cake, dances, parties should be discontinued as it is alien to the Tiv way of life. Celebration of a new wife is done by the Tiv People only in the husband’s house. Love should be the primary issue between the families concerned in marriage discussion and transaction but not money. Therefore, total expenses on marriage including dowry or bride price (kem kwase) and all sundry issues (Azaan a kwase) which at the moment vary from one community or family to another should not exceed One hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) in Tivland," the communique said

My female friend that is a Tiv said, their marriage is expensive that their men now go for other ethnic groups. I think this decision is okay. People should spend less on wedding and focus on marriage. The lady's welfare after wedding should be the priority.

Tiv elders ban traditional marriage festivities, pegs expenses for traditional marriages at N100k.

The Tiv Area Traditional Council (TATC) in Benue State has banned the practice of holding festivities in the house of a bride's parents during traditional marriages on the ground that such party-like activities are alien to their culture and is now abolished.

The decision was contained in a communique issued at the end of the General Assembly (Ijirtamen) of the Tiv nation held at the TATC Chambers and was chaired by the Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse. Part of the comminuque reads

The Elders added that traditional marriage ceremony where bride price is to be paid shall involve only the elders of the two families concerned and that the practice of inviting large numbers of friends and well-wishers to the occasion is henceforth abolished.

The council maintained that any Tiv girl to be given out in marriage must attain the age of 18 years and above as it stressed that the violation of the marriage tradition shall attract boycott by traditional rulers and elders and the denial of traditional marriage registration, including other traditional sanctions as the community may deem appropriate.

This guy you are not serious. I have a female friend from Benue state, she is from the Tiv ethnic group. The babe told me, Lagos girls no sabi fvck. She told me how some of their girls now become baby mamas since most guys are not ready to pay high bride price and their parents are not helping, they will drain your pockets once they know you are rich.

The Tor Tiv led the way sometime back when he gave his daughter out. The bride price was 1k. The traditional marriage was very modest as well.

This is good. This is really good. Thank you very much Professor Ayatse.

The Tor Tiv and elders in council have spoken. cool kiss

What are Igbo elders waiting for? They conduct marriage rites as if they are selling their children

I am Igbo from Orsu LGA in Imo State. Everything about marriage cost 100k in my family or community (not too sure about the community),but my family takes 100k and if you like to do ceremony is your wish if you don't want, take her home.

She told me that fvck is not her problem, she even told me she can fvck a guy once she loves him, she just want a guy that will love her. Tge babe needs love. We do talk a lot, she narrated what she experienced from guys, the ones she gave her pocket money fed him, yet they still jilted her. I hope she meets a good guy and get married one day.
