Picking a wife in Nkanu in Enugu is very cheap and they will return your bride's price.

In Osuochi in Abia State they return the bride's price too

In economics, a commodity is defined as anything that can be purchased with money.

Therefore if you pay money before marrying a woman irrespective of the price, she's not only a commodity but also your property.

Bride price is nothing other than modern day slavery.

lol I understand the point u re trying to make, well as much as I know, bride price is just a practice to show appreciation to the parents of the bride, it's an age long tradition and has no bearing to slavery or whatsoever , but recent practice is making it look like trading, reason I advocate everything goes back to the way it used to be. APPRECIATION

Nothing like appreciation. Even if it's 10naira list that is given, she has been sold.

Paying money before marrying another human is nothing other than denigrating, subjugation and modern day slavery.

No wonder most Nigerian men treat their wives like properties Afterall they purchased the women.

Yea, you're right. It costs next to zero to marry from my place.
Just last weekend they came to seek my sister's hand in marriage, we asked them to bring whatever they can.
They were surprised we served them chilled drinks even when their crates of drinks was by the corner (but they surpassed our expectation though) Lol.

Broke Elder001 is talking.
Better dont Go and kidnap person daughter without paying anything as tradition demands when you grow up and ready to marry then.
Finish your secondary school first, go to higher institution and get a job so you can get a fine little girl later.
Let's advice you like an uncle boy.

We were ignoring you when you started quoting us (cos we don't know if you exist prior then), but when you bring curses and your village gods into it, then we have to teach you how to be respectful little boy.

Tiv elders ban traditional marriage festivities, pegs expenses for traditional marriages at N100k.

The Tiv Area Traditional Council (TATC) in Benue State has banned the practice of holding festivities in the house of a bride's parents during traditional marriages on the ground that such party-like activities are alien to their culture and is now abolished.

The decision was contained in a communique issued at the end of the General Assembly (Ijirtamen) of the Tiv nation held at the TATC Chambers and was chaired by the Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse. Part of the comminuque reads

"The practice of holding festivities in the house of the girl’s parents popularly known as Traditional Marriage involving cutting of cake, dances, parties should be discontinued as it is alien to the Tiv way of life. Celebration of a new wife is done by the Tiv People only in the husband’s house. Love should be the primary issue between the families concerned in marriage discussion and transaction but not money. Therefore, total expenses on marriage including dowry or bride price (kem kwase) and all sundry issues (Azaan a kwase) which at the moment vary from one community or family to another should not exceed One hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000.00) in Tivland," the communique said

The Elders added that traditional marriage ceremony where bride price is to be paid shall involve only the elders of the two families concerned and that the practice of inviting large numbers of friends and well-wishers to the occasion is henceforth abolished.

The council maintained that any Tiv girl to be given out in marriage must attain the age of 18 years and above as it stressed that the violation of the marriage tradition shall attract boycott by traditional rulers and elders and the denial of traditional marriage registration, including other traditional sanctions as the community may deem appropriate.

This is beautiful. This will stop the sales of the girls. Who i wish all tribes will emulate this irrespective of richness, even to those who stole our common wealth to sell their daughters.
