Let me thank all the Igbo chaps and Igbo/Ijo for their wide and intelligent contribution to the extent of Alaigbo. Igbo land stretches from Abeomega to Igwe Ocha (Port Harcourt) and Igwe Nga (Opobo). Also, from Igbineke and Agbor to Gakem and Ikom

@Onlytruth

Nnewi can not be compared to Aba Urban talk less Ngwa land. Even baring Ukwa, Ngwa land is comparable to anything from Onitsha to Ihiala.

@Abagworo

Ariaria Market is seated in the former Obioma Ngwa LGA and never bordered by Eberi. Eberi Omuma is bordered by Ogwe, Owaza, Ihie and Obegu.

I also do not totally agree with you about people who deny their ancestry. Nigeria is teetering toward the area of greater disorder and it is proper that folks identify themselves properly to avoid unnecessary waste of lives and energy. I remembered when people of Akiriaka, near Ohanku in Ndoki, wanted to join their kinsmen in the then Imo State, now Abia State which led to community riot between Akrirka and Annang. I know what led the people of Annang to sue for peace; it was not the strength of small Akirika people but the mobilaztion of youths from all Igbo land especially form Ukwa, Ngwa and others.

@Ibime

You must understand that word, Bonny, is neither Igbo nor Ijo but a bastardized English word for Ubani. Ubani was outpost for Ngwa people before arrival of Europeans with the “Boat People”.

The history of Opobo is a mixed basket. Opobo was found by Jaja of Opobo on a piece of land believed to have belonged to Igwe Nga and Ikot Abak (Abasi). However, I must say Ichie Obomanu has reiterated his being Igbo on several occasions and he is also a member of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo. Chief Emma Aguma is Igbo of Ikwerre and one of the founding fathers of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo. There are also Okirika people who claim Igbo and few claims Igbo/Ijo yet some claim Ijo.

@Andre Uweh

You are always on the spot with correct facts and there is no form of wavering from you.

MAY YOUR DAYS BE LONG.

Nobody said that edo and delta are igbo. But you will agree with me that Igbanke (in Edo) and Anioma (in Delta) are Igbo parts of both states. Go and study what has been said here before making a nonsenical coment.

I am Tuboniju, from Ado royal house. The last King, Samuel Paul Uwakwe Ogan is my uncle. Am I Igbo?

We dont deny our heritage, but we do take offence when some ignorant young people claim Opubo, Wakirike and Ibani as some Igbo clan who deny themselves. For example, we never call Ndoki people Ijaw, although many of them migrated from Okrika and Opobo. Their culture is fully Igbo now, and that makes them Igbo.

With all due respect, if the king was your paternal uncle, and with a name like Uwakwe, you denying that you're Igbo sounds like a joke.
Of course nobody would force an Igbo identity on you, especially since after the civil war, but please stop parading yourself as an Uwakwe while denying your Igboness at the same time.

That is a distinction without a difference my broda. The mans name was Uwakwe, so you are at least a dual citizen of both ethnic groups (igbo and Ijaw). Let me ask you a question: why were the Konujis being opposed in the first place? Because they were originaly from , land. People should borrow a leaf from courageous Johnathan, who told Igbos, 'I am one of you.'It has never stopped him from also being Ijaw.
Re: The True Extent Of Alaigbo (Igboland) by komando: 3:23pm On Aug 21, 2010
If I was Igbo/Ijaw I would not be denying my heritage,but rather take advantage of that status to run for president. You are like a dual citizen, who can run for election in both UK and Naija. What a silly waste of political capital.
Re: The True Extent Of Alaigbo (Igboland) by komando: 3:27pm On Aug 21, 2010
Only GJ is using his at this time, but he isn't even shouting it loud. He wouldve been the toast of both groups. That is a solid political base for a minority to build upon. Naija Delta,shine youa eyes. Your Igbo brothers are a blessing to you.

did anyone ever say such? but Edo state borders with Igbo territory. so don't you think there are Igbo communities there? please! and yes about a GOOD CHUNK of Delta state is IGBO LAND!

The last time I checked though, Goodluck Jonathan is from Ekpeye. The people from Ekpeye are not Ijo. When Jonathan said to Igbo audience that “I am one of you”, he knew and meant what he said. The mundane sense of ancestral denial and political treachery of yesteryears embraced by certain folks in the southern Nigeria will continue to haunt the region politically.

I would still want Ndigbo to adhere strictly to the zoning formula adopted by PDP even if Goodluck Jonathan removes Goodluck Jonathan from his name and assumes Ebelechukwu Azikiwe.

By the way, Uwakwe Ogan is very Igbo to me because I know one Prof. Ogan from Imo State who was a pioneer member of the scientists that sustained Biafra war effort.

Chyz: If mend pops up. who or where will they start attacking? lol. the only reason why they lasted this long is becuz yaradua didnt call for full military action against them out of the respect of a "new democracy". I know u saw how quick they turned in them weapons when that term was almost up. lol

When people say such things, you know how far they are from reality. Is JTF armed with sticks or do they have tanks and the navy? More than that, what country that can summon the wrath of so called "full military action" would instead, take the path of a mouse and offer "amnesty?" The "full military action" was what you saw, in fact a ex-president lost a son in the ND and Heaven didn't fall.

It is also on record that MEND never accepted the "amnesty". In fact, if the mouths here were conversant with the news, they would have known that Tompolo's men suddenly appeared at the amnesty camps only a couple of months ago. . . And they came without arms.

Some people are in emotional denial of the realities on the ground, better wake up or you will be lost. One word of advice, any the day MEND see's the need to regroup, it is advised that cockroache warriors like Ezeuche and Chyz do the thing they are expected to do and hide under their beds.

Another proof of the Igbo connections of the Okrika people. A lot f progress has been made on this thread.

I dont think Ive ever denied that my great great grandfather Uwakwe is an Asa man. I dont know where Mr Ogan is from originally cos Im not related to him. Uwakwe was his slave.

The question of ethnicity only occurs when a people are asked to identify themselves as one or the other. The standard argument is that Igbo are defined by culture rather than genetics. Whilst I am a genetic mix of both Igbo and Ijaw, my culture is Pioru, Piriangala and War Canoe House, not New Yam festival. Hence I am Ijaw first and Igbo second. Of course, if the question is whether Okrika is an Igbo land, I would tell you that I am an Ijaw man and Ijaw man only.  grin

Is being Igbo genetic? Do you and Dede1 share the same ancestor?

Is Okrika older than America?

Ibikensi, truth is that if your Uwakwe greatgrand father or whatever married and had children with an Ijo woman then u are definitely part Ijo. I'm sure his sons or daugheters also married and had children with Ijo ppl hence giving all these years of constant marriages with Ijo ppl your generation na Ijo no doubt but also Igbo because u came from one Uwakwe man. Why you people find it hard to proudly balance both amazes me because u are not the only group of people with such interesting mix. Unlike you I tend not to have that issue at all. I guess u see yourself as more Ijo than Igbo but that should serve as an advantage not disadvantage to u and the general Igbo and Ijo community.

There is Umu-Okirika in Mbaise and it could have been the original migratory point of cross section of people in the present-day Okirika. My source informed that the people of Canoe Houses came with Europeans as porters. The majority of the people were drawn from ethnic groups along the Gold Coast.

Not so much "selective" amnesia, than a constant desire to cheat, deceive, lie and confuse the other party at any/every point in time! Just a part of their upbringing, life, culture and belief!
