you would need at least N15 million to start up, you will need to buy up to 10 machines

You do NOT need 15 million naira to start making toothpicks.

You can start with under 2 million naira in your backyard if you have a working brain and are serious with yourself.

You are very STUPID for asking that question.

So you prefer that we continue IMPORTING toothpicks for millions of dollars per annum rather than actually producing them here in Nigeria?

SOMETIMES I WONDER ABOUT THE IQ OF SOME OF YOU NAIRALANDERS. DUMB AS FCKING ROCKS

Hey, how much is a box of toothpick??
When compared to it's cost of production, what's d profit??

Think innovatively. If they even use those resources to refine & sell palm wine, palm oil & palm kernel oil, it wld fetch more revenue.

There are so many other things that wld generate massive revenue than that nonsense..

Are we going forward or backward??

So you prefer we continue to import common toothpick.

Very commendable

Interesting. I have been seeing some cheap, small made in China machines. That couldn't cost more than a few millions. I thought those would work. Perhaps the quality of the toothpicks peosuced may not be so high.
factoring in the value of the naira it flips up, hence you have not been seeing toothpick factories everywhere,The problem is you cant buy from the manufacturers direct as they sell container load so that leaves you to the retailers who sell twice the price you see advertised on the companies website.

Exactly my point, way too expensive to produce, China is only making way cos they have a very large market to produce for, someone here said it will cost N2million to start, u can imagine the kind of kids we have on NL, grin grin grin

Hmm shocked shocked

Akwa Ibom state has been producing toothpick and pencils for a while now, they are using local bamboo.

If anyone imports the bamboo, its as good as producing it abroad!

nextstep:

You may have a point, but ikorodureporta also has a valid point. Raw materials usually need to be prepped. You may find that the bamboo (or timber) needs to be a certain type or treated with a certain chemical in order to be workable in the machines. With Nigerian factor, it might even be cheaper to import the raw material than to source it locally. I hope that's not the case, but there you are.
