dont mind those ones who don't know anything, they don't know dangote is only enjoying his romance with d ruling class through monopoly. what angers me d most is the damage done by his truck on daily basis. killing people n all sorts n nobody is suing him,i guess it's all cos of d name? some people will say he wants to venture into biz overseas, let's see if they will cripple their economy to let him grow or his truck will wreck havoc n he won't pay damages

you lied bro, he started without political backing, before he came the likes of Ibru was in charge, other people like Eleganza and co was there. He sustained his bussines for him to be where he is today.
there is no successful bussines man (billionaire) without some dirty deals undertone.
Government in all countries ignore them because of the ripple effect on their economy if they go after them without a defined backup plan. All counties play a pivotal role in sustaining thier successful bussines men.
Govt crippled Ibeto's booming cement business only to monopolize Dangote, plus top politicians laundering money, hiding it in his business all these gave rise to his wealth

He should also sell his Noodles and Pasta manufacturing plant. His Noodles and Pasta taste like sh*t!

Dangote Flour already sold the noodle operation to Dufil Prima, makers of Indomie.

I think there are agreements in place as part of the sale such that the Dangote Noodles brand continues for some time

This is the best time to get his refinery working. I am not sure of which administration gave him the operating license anyway. It is going to shut down a lot of fraudulent importation business and probably drop the price of fuel. It will still be a monopoly nonetheless.

According to H.E Emir Sanusi, the problem of Nigeria is the issue of vested interest. Successive governments have intentionally destroyed the government's capacity just to enrich individuals.

What will it cost the government to set up multiple refineries?
Why does government award contract to private firms instead of equipping the ministries?

Dangote is only enjoying a tradition that has come to stay. Can we ask him not to take advantage of what is on ground? No! Anyone would. So, divesting from a business that does not give him the benefits of monopoly isn't a bad idea after all.
Why should govt build and own refinery?
If I become president today, I will sell off our refineries and even nnpc.

What govt need to do is created the enabling environment required for the private sector to own refineries and many other things

You just opened my eyes to an entirely new perpective, I must admit. However, he still deserves plaudits for building his company to the extent that it can negotiate monopoly with government. Heard the man started as a retailer....

Don't get me wrong, I am not in any way belittling or undermining his achievements in any way, I am simply saying he thrives in a monopolistic environment but a 'seasoned entrepreneur" must also be able to thrive in a competitive environment.

Dangote is simply diversifying his business portfolio. The flour business must still be profitable to attract any investor at all. However it appears a lot is going into the Refinery and Tomato business, so it would make sense to let go of the weaker business to fund the "cash cow".

Cash cow is a business that is generating guaranteed returns. Neither his tomato business which he shut down for long periods or his refinery which is not working yet is a cash cow

You and the guy you quoted are both right. But as regards your last statement he cn never regret the refinery project because he has even started enjoying the monopoly already. The only bold entity that can build a refinery in Nigeria is the government and they are shying away from it. IOCs won't try it because of the security level within the country. Theirs is to just drill oil and ship it out.
that refinery will break him.
d flour mill was owned by a south African company, Target, I think.
they used him as a front and made him chairman.
they removed him and gave his daughter director.
they later dumped it. I'm sure he was gloating when he bought it off them for small change.

by 2040 most western nations would have stopped producing fossil fuel engines.
once Iran and US ramp up production, prices will crash.
so year on year, world consumption is dropping.
Nigeria currently has 2-3 oil tankers on d high seas, without any buyers for our crude.
meanwhile, our present (high) consumption is actually based on smuggling and less than 5% required power generation.
imagine Nigeria with adequate, 24/7 power supply!
who will u sell petrol and diesel to?

There's lot to refining crude oil than just petrol and diesel. Moreover, with Africa's population set to balloon ditto the increment of the consumer class coupled with the weak infrastructure for electric vehicles, then he's in the right continent and at the right time.

Additionally, I don't know who lied to you, but Nigeria will not experience 24-hours electricity anytime soon. Not now, not in the next 100 years.

@Topic: Lots of ignoramuses. They don't know that divesting is as important as diversifying or reinvesting. There's more money in the dairy sector where Alhaji plans investing than flour ditto more money in petrol chemicals than pasta. Just as a tree shed away old leaves to bring forth new leaves, Dangote is shedding away smaller businesses to introduce bigger ones.

Simple economics.
