that refinery will break him.
d flour mill was owned by a south African company, Target, I think.
they used him as a front and made him chairman.
they removed him and gave his daughter director.
they later dumped it. I'm sure he was gloating when he bought it off them for small change.

by 2040 most western nations would have stopped producing fossil fuel engines.
once Iran and US ramp up production, prices will crash.
so year on year, world consumption is dropping.
Nigeria currently has 2-3 oil tankers on d high seas, without any buyers for our crude.
meanwhile, our present (high) consumption is actually based on smuggling and less than 5% required power generation.
imagine Nigeria with adequate, 24/7 power supply!
who will u sell petrol and diesel to?

Your analysis is fearful but i believe dangote refinery is still a good investment.

Don't be an unfortunate, damned soul! How could you have known that the person is Igbo? You guys think you have got an opinion - with the way you are quick to vilify the Igbo identity, but it's only sinking you deeper into the abyss of condemnation.

There are more than 400 distinct ethnic groups in Nigeria; how does this evade you and your ilks?

Let dangote write a book that will motivate young entrepreneurs like his fellow billionaires in the west do. Will he tell them to be close to the government in power to succeed in his book?

Rule 1: Use "all" available means to get what you want..... this includes the powers that be (the government)! If you have it...use it.

Why the hell would you not use government backing if you have it at your disposal?

Business is all about leveraging!

The refinery will be just another monopoly, so long as he stays on the right side of the federal government of nigeria. Aliko is a political businessman

The question is what do the Indian companies know that Nigerian companies don't? If Dangote is selling his flour mill business because it is loss making but Crown Flour mill owned by Olam is profitable, how come Dangote Flour hasn't learnt from Crown Flour?

Some of the reasons Dangote Flour mill gave for its loss making include cross border smuggling. If that is the case, why isn't Crown Flour Mills impacted by the same problem? Also, what is the Nigerian government doing to address the cross border smuggling?

Every Nigerian should be concerned about the sale of a wholly owned Nigerian company to a foreign entity. Also, the flour mill business will become monopolistic in nature, where the industry is controlled by two firms leading to higher prices for the consumer.

Some of the reasons Dangote Flour mill gave for its loss making include Apapa gridlock and cross border smuggling. If that is the case, why isn't Crown Flour Mills impacted by the same problem? Also, what is the Nigerian government doing to address the gridlock in Apapa as well as the cross border smuggling? I thought Dangote was rebuilding the roads leading to the port in Apapa? Why hasn't that helped ease his business challenges?

Every Nigerian should be concerned about the sale of a wholly owned Nigerian company to a foreign entity. The income earned by these foreign firms will end up leaving the shores of Nigeria adding to our currency challenges. Also, the flour mill business will become monopolistic in nature, whereby the industry is controlled by two firms leading to higher prices for the consumer.

Nigeria has a new competition law. I feel this would be a good opportunity to review if this sale would be the best thing for consumers and the nation. Every effort should be made to help the company avoid being sold to a foreign firm. The government should rise up to its responsibilities and fix the infrastructural challenges, assuming that is the real problem that is making our companies fail while the foreign firms are succeeding.

You have to leave us Nigerians, we cannot divest emotional or personal issues from speaking. First folly was the idea that the flour mill is loosing money, it is not as at early last year. It may have sustained a lower profit than the year before. But it does not look like it was loosing money. Second dangote seems to have left the sugar , salt and flour business to others to manage. It actually makes sense if you do not trust nigerians to manage it to sell it. He is highly diversified with the lekki project. The lekki project and cement seems to be what he actively or seems to actively manage. Ppl do not know that after a while a lot of successful businessmen in that country leave day to day running of the firm to executives while they handle social, political or economic relations.

How is that possible or is he selling his share?
I thought, that flour mill is on stock market ?
If yes!
What happened to other people's share?
Does it mean that other share holders will be forced to sell also?

Public companies get sold regularly. No big deal. What will happen depends on the company buying. If they decide to keep it running as an independent public subsidiary, the shares of the old shareholders will remain intact. If the buyer is a public company and decides to integrate it into their existing operation, then the old shareholders of the Dangote Flour will get appropriate number of shares of the buying buying company, depending on the number of shares owned by the individual shareholders.
The buying company could decide to take the company (Dangote Flour) private. In that case, the buying company will pay the shareholders for the number of shares they own.

Dangote is simply diversifying his business portfolio. The flour business must still be profitable to attract any investor at all. However it appears a lot is going into the Refinery and Tomato business, so it would make sense to let go of the weaker business to fund the "cash cow".

The report said the business is losing money.

You mean “no solid competitors” like LaFarge, the world’s BIGGEST cement producer? grin

Dude, Nigeria has always had the world’s biggest cement companies operating here since before even many of our parents were born from the 1950/60s until the present day! The likes of LaFarge, Blue Circle, Holcim (since merged into LaFarge with Blue Circle), Scancem, and Heidelberg have always continuously maintained operations in Nigeria, long before Dangote built his first kiln. What Dangote (and the BUA Group) has achieved to get these foreign competitors to up their game and put more investments into their Nigerian operations (thus, for example, LaFarge has modernized its Shagamu and Ewekoro plants), and upgrade the quality of Nigeria-produced cement from 32.5R grade to 42.5 R (while Dangote is the first/only African plant to produce 52.5R graded cement). Meanwhile, Dangote has expanded into several other African countries, where he not only has to compete with these “solid” multinationals but also with national competitors.
