Your mum is a good woman, conscious of her family. What you did in my opinion is totally wrong though obvious you did not know. You need to know you are not a girl again , you are a woman. My little sister once sat on my lap when I was younger, I remember we were playing the infamous ludo game back then. my father came in and told my sister to go sit on a chair, and asked me never to carry any of my sisters on my lap again. I felt weirded out all through that day, giving it some serious thought.
