While we have so many igbos born in Nigeria that cannot speak Igbo.

Unfortunately igbo is now a dying language and may become extinct within the next 3 generations if current trends continue.

Igbo parents need to stop this whole mentality of speaking Igbo at home is backwards.

I remember when I was growing up, I visited so many friends home where the only language they spoke at home was English. This is sad.

We need a conscious revival of Igbo language including proper vocabulary and writings.

We can even revive our nsibidi writing scripts.

The Igbo Language cannot die as long as it remains spoken in the motherland, eastern Nigeria. That will always serve as the source. Besides, I think Igbos are blessed with skillful writers and literary icons that are capable of reversing any negative trends on short notice. Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche has shown that she can easily become as good in Igbo literature as she's in English.

It's never a sad thing for the Ewedu Muslims because every year people comes from different countries to learn the Yorùbá language in the premier university. These scholars are even sponsored by their government. I'm not a Muslim but I believe in One Nigeria.

Igbo is dying in Lagos and Abuja, it is not dying in the East, where it belongs and millions still speak it

This tale you lot spin, is becoming tired.

This is wrong.

You are judging by Igbos in Lagos.

There are over 30 million Igbo's in the South east and so far the South East exists, Igbos born there can never lose the language.

Igbo language cannot go into extinction even in the next 1 million years.

It might go extinct in Lagos, but in the home land (South east) Nope!

It can only be revived from a political level. Speaking igbo at home is complimentary, and wont guarantee the that the imminent extinction wont occur.

Check all languages that went extinct, you'll see a striking correlation with them all. That is, It's not spoken from an institutional level. For igbo to thrive, it has to penetrate the consciousness of the citizens. Student should study with igbo as the mean of instruction, laws written in it, and day to day activities in igbo, just like English.

Anything short of it will lead to extinction, albeit slowly

I don't understand why two or more igbos can't speak the language to themselves in an informal setting. It's not even like they're good at speaking the nonsense English they vomit. I'm sorry but igbo language is a dying language take it or leave it. Most igbos can't read nor write igbo.
igbo only value their language once they get to western world, many igbos I met here in Austria that grew up in Benin city they learn igbo by force in vienna

Nothing special about this. It is just like learning a new language. I learnt Spanish and German, I found the two languages interesting. The world is a global village, monolingual people will be left behind, being a bilingual, trilingual or polyglot is the main deal.

Not only Igbo.
When your kids cannot speak your language... you think you are fully successful.
Check some advance countries:
China
Germany
France
USA
England
Japan
What do all have in common?
They value their languages.

Thank you jare.Yoruba language is studied in some universities in the united States.
Every year, whites come down here to learn the language.
No Yoruba makes noise about it,cos it's unnecessary
It's a fact that is verifiable in time and space,so for some useless cheap tribalists to come and say a few pupils learning Igbo language will be a sad thing for the Ewedu Muslims (which I know he means the yorubas) is not only mischievous but unfortunate

you are making noise about it now, are you not?

You inferior black people should keep up with the dick measuring for which of your lamguages and culture appeals most to slave masters, since you're all vermin that nobody wishes to touch anyway undecided
