The siren of death....

The bus buckled to an abrupt stop atop a bridge, this jerked Amos back to consciousness from his troubled thoughts; he alighted from the bus, as his feet landed on the pavement, the tremble from vehicles traversing the bridge to various locations unsettled him.

Trying to arrange his school certificates and other qualifications and to think of another way to get to his appointment which had been due for over an hour courtesy the lack of bus and the hike in transport fares, Amos couldn't think straight admist the noise from the road and the other passengers raining abuses on the conductor and driver that were frantically trying to repair the expired and over used engine of the bus..
Amos lost hope on getting that job that should help keep him and his family afloat.
'I am tired' he thought, 'why are bad things always happening to me?'
Everywhere he turned, he saw walls, claustrophobia clawing at his skin, his mind full of chaos and then, he heard the sound:
so beautiful, so inviting, it has been calling to him but from a distance but now it is clear, so clear he could almost humm it but he didn't have the vocal capacity, no human or animal did. It took a few minutes to understand who was calling him, not by his name, but by the name only he and the voice knew him by.
Many people mocked those who answered the voice, others sympathised, most tried to counsel those who tried to follow the voice. But there was no one, not at this moment to caution amos from Following this voice, lucky for amos the voice wasn't far, it was just beneath the bridge beckoning him, the waves lazying by with the wind, calm and oblivious to the worries of humans...

The voice called to him 'come to me, I will comfort you... Come to me, let me take away your sorrows'.
'How will you do that? ' amos asked the wave.

'na who this wan dey talk to sef?' mumbled one of the stranded passenger
'free am, na so madness dey start' replied another passenger... Amos ignored them, if only they could hear what he was hearing.

'leave it to me' said the voice 'just come, let me take you to where worries and sadness don't exist, come to me' said the voice .
Amos knew what to do, his hands already relieved of his years of studying and evidence of his time in the institutions scattered on the ground. Amos plunged.

Sinking, he could not breath, he could not swim, amos struggled to hold on to life, but the voice persuaded him, telling him not to worry 'soon it will be over'
'But I can't breath'
' I know, don't struggle let me take you to where I promised you. Trust me.'
'For how long? '
'It will only take a minute, and we will be there, just you and me'
'A place of no worries, no pain, no sorrows.. What is a minute to sacrifice for peace to feel'...
Reasured Amos left himself to the voice, the last thing he saw was a hand too late trying to bring him back to what he left behind.
