This policy is useless because it would put innocent people into trouble. Criminals would rob you of your phone and use it to make all the calls they need and throw your sim card away after they are done. The police would then arrest you.

Aboki remains Aboki.
I swear. These archaic ab.oki people just keep destroying this country. Always making extremely daft decisions.

Remember pantami is from this North east amd this approach will improve security in the North east and its long overdue. How can anonymous people be having access to our GSM network. 10years inprison for selling registered sim loading.

What the use of this mumu policy. Criminals will just steal your profile and use it to register 2000 sims.

SAMAJ:
Following the earlier directive on the suspension of new SIM registration by network operators, the Federal government has directed all operators in the country to disconnect every SIM card not synchronized with valid National Identity Number (NIN) by December 30th 2020.

This came after an urgent meeting of key stakeholders in the Communications industry convened by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) on Monday, December 14, 2020.

The meeting in its resolution insisted that all telecom operators must from Thursday, December 16, 2020 require all their subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number (NIN) to update SIM registration records.

I understand. Notwithstanding, a balance has to be struck between security and public health. There's a resurgence of Covid19 as we speak and it behooves on the government to ensure things dont get outta hand.

That's the point I'm trying to make.

Not only an insensitive government but a callous one too! In a second wave of Covid19, you want to increase the number of cases drastically with a stupid policy at a very very wrong time? I wonder how we keep voting this dolts every 4 years, really baffles me!

Subscribers don't need to besiege their offices, a simple google form kind of document can be generated for customers to fill and submit to the telecomm firms. The notice is too short.

it would be ridiculous for FG to expect us to go to the telcos for the synchronisation.. we provided our numbers during national identity registration.. NIMC should liaise with the telcos for the exercise. between them, it can be done without summoning us!

Explain what exactly is wrong with the idea.

A lot is very wrong, the law asks for an Nigerian ID Card, not NIN, so this is very very wrong. Are you saying that other Nigerian ID Cards are now useless to access government services? This will set a bad precedence and will set the CBN to doing the same thing. Besides, this is highly insensitive and to say the least, callous, during a time of the second wave of Covid19, you tell people to bunch together to fulfill your stupid policy? Reason am na.

In light of insecurity which pervades the Nigerian state, facilitated by unidentified individuals taking advantage of the mobile network and the anonymity the prevailing regime accords them, a most useful solution would be to tie phone lines to a database of identification on a national scale.

The ball is in your court, why do you disagree with the idea?

This is y I disagree with the idea. Vast majority of people do not have NIN. 2 weeks is too small for them to get it

Nugerians in diaspora use their naija sim. 2 weeks is too small for them to get NIN and protect their sim

If i am q kidnapper, i will kidnap people who are rich for ransom, then kidnap any poor person on the street. Hold them for a day. Use their number to make calls for ransom from rich family, then release the poor man and his phone. Police will go arrest poor man. I qm free.

If i need more than a day to communicate with rich person family, i will kidnap another poor man amd repeat the same process.

This policy will not solve crimes

What happens to foreigners??
Re: FG To Disconnect SIM Cards Not Synchronised With National ID Number by 9jaArea: 10:46pm On Dec 15, 2020
It's terrible how shallow you guys think, already active SIM cards are tied to biometrics data of the owners. From your submission, that is not enough data for the police to trace until NIN is added.

What is wrong with taking security of your SIM more seriously?

What's the essence of SIM lock?

Nigeria is trying to harmonize all her Biometrics databases, this should not be so hard to understand.

Why does SIM need to be synchronized with NIN when you already registered your face and finger print just to get the SIM and besides is the useless govt saying foreigners can no longer use Nigerian SIMs while working and living here ?
