How I wish you people imposed yourselves on those places to begin with.

Technically speaking, you people are not exerting any political right on any of those places. The last you people tried to make a decision there was resisted by Opobo, and they later disgraced you lots at the supreme Court.

So, I hope you understand that when the need rises, Ndigbo has more to gain in physical confrontation than Court arguments.

We don't have to first approach them. We just claim our territory. If you yarn shit, we just kill you guys off, and approach the ICC to declare you guys aggressive landgrabbers, with enough evidence to sink the Titanic.

Take a look at the snippet below, what do you discover?

The whites had done a great disservice to the minority tribes of the Niger delta by classifying a lot of the tribes as ibo. I would be less harsh on the whites for the fact that they lacked the understanding of the unique dialectical and geographical distribution of many tribes of the Niger delta, thereby wrongfully lumping together a lot as being ibos.
Ibos started began leaving the hinterland through slavery and then after, heavy migration to settle among many tribes of the Niger delta. By their huge population concentration, ibos could easily submerged, overwhelm & greatly influence their host minorities. Little wonder, many of their surrounding neighbors with whom they share boundaries are heavily influenced and most times, acculturated.

The submission of the author in No72 is a great injustice against the minorities who clearly have their own distinct identities different from the ibos. Ibos spoken by a great number of tribes does not & never will make them ibo. It is only circumstantial that ibos are spoken, often times, adopted by these tribes. Sometimes, as a second language. The large number of ibos in the Niger delta gives ibos undue advantage and commanding influence over tribes with smaller numbers.

From evidences, including the snippets that is acknowledged by Alabo7978 which featured the Nembe dialect Baikie met when he toured Nigeria. The dialect he later compared with Isuama dialect. The evidence that proves beyond reasonable doubt that Nembe indigenes then spoke in Igbo.

By the way, which minority are you talking about?
Are you talking about the same Minorities that are currently committing Cultural Genocide on the people of Bonny?
The same minority that changed the name of someone's ancestor from Pepple to Perekule?
The same Minority that once challenged the legal existence of Opobo?
The same minority that is blackmailing the indigenes of Bonny, Opobo and Bom (New Calabar) by attaching a stigma to their Igbo heritage?

The minority that have conditioned the indigenes of Nembe to second fiddle and is now advocating to totally eradicate the origins and culture of Bonny people?

Have you noticed that ibos would label you ibo just because you bear an ibo name or remotely have a similar dialect as any of the ibo dialects.

Even in 2021, many Nigerians wrongly classify many tribes as belonging to the nearest large tribe.

On the eve of the 2011 election, I was discussing about the election with some of my co-workers in Your State, I was surprised that so many (educated) Yobe people wrongly assumed that Goodluck Jonathan is an Igbo man.
I took time to educate them that Jonathan is an Ijaw man and the Ijaws aren't parts of the Igbo ethnic group.

Wherever the Igbo consciousness is alive it is impossible to surpress. Look at Nembe for instance, it is an Ijaw town by and large. But the Igbo there keeps sticking out. Despite all revisionism Igbo refuses to go away.

A fraud? But ever since the war ended, you people have been working earnestly to wipe the history and languages of these Igbo towns.
You have succeeded to a great extent in Nembe and other Oru villages, now your eyes is set at Bonny, Bom and Okirika.

If they are distinct from Ndigbo and related to you, why are you committing cultural genocide on them?
Why are you stigmatising their language and heritage?

Now their kins have come to their rescue by presenting superior evidence on their heritage and language so that they won't be ashamed to say outside what they do their rooms due to the fear of being tagged slaves by those holding most political offices in the states they were allocated to and you have problems with it.

What do you have against Bonny people speaking the language they do with their mother at Organisations?
What do you have against Bonny people telling their own history?

The British brought about the confusion by grouping together certain tribes they think should belong to one ethnic group based on the similarities the European observed without interviewing the native peoples if they consider each other as one ethnic group.

The large ethnic groups like the Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and Kanuri are actually fusions of several smaller similar tribes.

Some tribes accept the ethnic tags while some reject it. E.g After 1960, the Isoko have persistently made it clear that they don't belong to the Urhobo ethnic group.

Infact they've gone as far as the SW to claim areas with seeming Igbo names as having Igbo connection.

The British really whittled our (Ijos) powers and influence.Just like they did to the Benin empire. They were more disposed to the Igbos and elevated them.If only they knew Nigeria gave them more than they had.

Actually, the classification as done by the British can be correct IF we want it to stand and it can be wrong if we object to it. Both sides have valid points because;

Most Tribes in Southern Nigeria are actually related.

Yoruba, Bini, Urhobos, Esan, Ijaw, Igbo, Igala, Itsekiri overlap to varying degrees and their languages support this athropological fact.

We evolve into different peoples by;

1) Absorbing waves of immigrants over time.

2) Living separately in different places over time e.g the Indigenes of Atakpame, Togo are Yoruba people often called Anago/Ife tribes in Togo. A typical Yoruba man from Osun State can hear about 80% of the dialect they now speak.

These European historians were very meticulous in dealing with details its mind blowing. I know we like to counter many works carried out by local historians for bias , and , this includes the work of the treacherous Alagoa. But , are you aware in the book , Lower Niger and its Tribes by Leonard Glynn , Olu/ Oru were documented as a completely separate group from Ijaw?

Henceforth, you can't pick and chose whichever historians account that supports your arguments and reject the rest....remember nobi ogogoro joint we dey. Point being, in the beginning of European exploration , Ijaw nowhere in the site and nobody knew them but the Oru people were clearly identified as a separate group.
