Back again today. Apparently, the reason for not filling the sacs is their inavailability... It's now been concluded that I'll be getting some tomorrow from the market.
It's about ₦150/dozen.

So filling and planting will be done by the weekend

When planting into the sack did you dig deep into the sack or you just make a small holes
Re: My Sac Yam Diary by orogodoganyin(m): 11:03am On Apr 08, 2022
Yesterday, in the evening, it was very windy with lightening so we expected rain.
In the end, we just had a 5-min shower and nothing else.

So today, I went around to finally mulch the ones I planted earlier.

Also made holes close to the bottom of the sac to avoid waterlogging

So I'd been running around looking for the guy that'd fill the remaining bags with soil for over a week now without success... Wherever I went, it was either they didn't see him or he had just left the place.

Today I sighted him from afar but I was on call and couldn't shout his name. Then he entered a house while I was still walking towards him.
When I got to the house, I told the guys outside who I was looking for, and they said I should go and look for him infront... As in I should walk further and ask of him.

I was like "I saw him enter this place right now". It was at this point they knew I had caught up to them with their lies.
So I asked him to come out and we started discussing.
Apparently, his friend that did half job and ran away with my money, told him that I didn't pay him.
That I'm a bad person and it was this guy's fault for introducing him to me.

Funny enough, it was this guy I'm talking to that I first met. He was the first to work with me before handing over the job to the runaway guy.

I guess he didn't want to give this guy any money and lied that I hadn't paid him for the work he did. Someone I paid in advance, did half work n travelled to his village...

To cut the long story short, the guy filled the sac today, I paid him freshly and he also helped me plant. We have 150 sacs planted now...

We'll see how things go.

Good work done. As this shows that you don't necessarily need large hectares of land before farming. Do Agric it pays.

exactly... there are people with compounds that can take 1,000 sacs but they'd still go to a bush farm for a mere 500 stands of yam..

Re: My Sac Yam Diary by orogodoganyin(m): 5:25pm On Apr 15, 2022
I left some just starting to sprout before leaving and on return, they were pretty grown...
I think yam grows fast once it sprouts... The delay is the sprouting.
Re: My Sac Yam Diary by orogodoganyin(m): 5:29pm On Apr 15, 2022
I also met some that were pretty grown and we're already needing staking so I concluded that I'd stake them on Friday

Friday has come, albeit too fast. Been very busy and fatigued... The guy that helps me with the farm is also busy with some other work.

I initially thought of postponing it to Saturday... But rain came and I could see the way grown ones were swaying.

I decided to do a little staking, to continue the remaining preparation for Saturday.
