PAQ:

Modern batteries stop charging at 100% then the battery drains to a certain percentage then charges again to a 100%. While this happens it still indicates its on 100%. This has a side effect on the battery, the continuous charge & discharge causes alot of strain and heat on the battery. The number one enemy of a battery is heat as it leads to swelling, its even worse when it heats up and cools down continuously for a long period. It also depletes a batteries life quicker because every battery has a certain amount of charging cycles, so while you live it charging after it reaches 100% you also indirectly use up a charging cycle for what you did not actually use because it will continuously discharge & charge. Lets say it stops charging @ 100% then starts again at 98% that 2% difference will keep on adding until it gets to 100 which is one charge cycle.

Hello guys, so I went to fix my phone charging port today and the phone repairer advised me against charging constantly with a power bank. According to him, it could spoil a phones battery.. How true is this? Have you had any personal experience?

Going forward try and use magnetic cable chargers. These can help save the damage on your charging ports.

Overcharging your power bank can cause battery damage, which results in inconsistent charging. Inconsistent charging means that your device will not charge correctly and may charge slower. If your power bank fails to charge correctly, you will also have to replace the device, leading to additional expense.

That's not true, I have been using it to charge my phone and the battery is still serving me, it depends on the power bank.

Please, is your phone using a type C port and how much did it cost you to replace it? I'm currently facing the same issue.

When your phone has a battery capacity of 6000mah and you are using a ‘chinko’ power bank of 10000mah (actually 4000mah) what do you think will happen?

It’s your phone that will be charging the power bank instead of the power bank to charge your phone lol

Yeah, it damaged the battery of the second android phone I bought. I used it for about 2weeks because our transformer was bad. During this time I noticed that it doesn't last as long as when I used PHCN. When our power supply was finally restored, I charged with PHCN supply but the battery had gone bad already. Since then I don't use power banks again.

Pls, what power bank brand caused the damage?

Nonsense.

Bought a No-name powerbank in 2019, and it has been serving me well. Battery health still at 80+%

I am an IT technician and from experience, you are free to charge your device with whatever electric power source you have access to

First of all if the voltage supplied by your power bank is lesser than the voltage required by your device, your device won't charge normally and if you're using it in the process of charging with such a power bank, your device battery percentage won't increase but rather decrease at a slower rate compared to usage on battery power.

Most USB cables have current regulators nowadays, they are not just plain wires anymore.
Modern powerbanks and power bank PCB's have voltage regulators and smart charging features that adapts to whatever device it currently charges.
Your phone's daughterboard which houses your charging port has a voltage regulator and temperature control switch, that is the reason why your phone can detect a damaged charger, High temperature and a slow charger. It is also the reason why once it detects a good charger supplying the factory recommended voltage for fast charging, it fast charges.
Your modern charger brick has voltage controls and some even has idling mode (when your phones battery is full or no phhone is currently connected and charging, the charger turns off to save power)

Your battery also has a PCB that controls how currents flow in and out! And if there's too high a voltage that your charger brick or power bank board couldn't stop, the USB cable would control it and if the USB cable can't control it, then YOUR daughterboard with your charging port would control it. And when it can't be controlled, then the battery PCB will control it but definitely, your phones daughterboard will control the charging current.

The issue of generators and the myth of how bad it is for your battery, let's put it to rest. If you have any available power source, charge your device and learn about the technology of your installed battery and how to care for it.

Every power bank right now has specifications. Some do fast charging(9v-1ah/12v-2.7ah) some smaller types do 5v-1ah and some even do 5v-2a. When buying one, first know the required or compatible voltage for your device before buying and live your life...

If I have made any mistake, correct me without an insult

Everything Wears out with time and if your battery is no longer holding charge, simply replace it by taking it to the nearest phone technician.
