As Jesus Christ explained to you in Luke 22 vs 37, He called on His disciples to do that in order that the prophesy which was written in Isaiah 53 vs 12 proclaiming that He was numbered among the transgressors, would be fulfilled..

By attacking a guard with his sword, his disciples essentially became transgressors of the law that evening and would have been arrested alongside Jesus Christ but Jesus Christ intervened on their behalf. Essentially, Jesus Christ set the scene that evening in order for that prophesy to be fulfilled. That was all He did. He didn't ask His disciples to attack nor did He reward them for it.
