In the first century the temple in Jerusalem is the most precious thing Jews have because it's the only place where pure worship is offered on planet earth. Samaritans also built another temple in Samaria so they thought worship offered there is equally approved by the God of Abraham just as the temple in Jerusalem.
WHY?
Because all of them are Israelites.
But then Jews always insist that it's only in Jerusalem that people can worship God acceptably {John 4:20} so when a Samaritan woman who really love God from the heart asked Jesus his own opinion on the matter Jesus said:

“Believe me, woman, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, because salvation begins with the Jews. Nevertheless, the hour is coming, and it is now, when the true worshippers will worship the Father with spirit and truth, for indeed, the Father is looking for ones like these to worship him. God is a Spirit, and those worshipping him must worship with spirit and truth.” John 4:21-24

Note Jesus' passionate comment regarding the temple worship in Jerusalem, only Jews worship offered inside the temple in Jerusalem have God's approval!

So Jesus will not allow that pride to be trashed just because some Jews wants to carry out their normal business! John 2:17 compare to Psalms 69:9

All Jews agree that the place wasn't meant for business but worship so nobody had the nerve to challenge Jesus because they all knew he did the right thing. So instead of fighting this man they questioned him:

On whose authority are you doing this?
Disturbing the business carried out in the temple by our religious leaders who are the custodians of the law! Mark 11:27-28

Of course they knew that Jesus' action is just.
But you can't do the same when those in question don't believe the same thing with you.
Jesus and those Jews are under the same rule which is God's law but in this case those you're thinking of fighting don't know what they are doing {Luke 23:34} so Jesus won't fight back neither did he teach us to fight those who don't agree on the same line of thought under the same arrangement! Matthew 26:52
