Hi Pansophist. I'm doing a little bit of research that will help if I later decide to apply to physically study in Finland. See the info I saw while checking LAB's application process:

During the residence permit process, the Finnish Immigration Service has to make sure that the person applying for a residence permit has sufficient means to live in Finland. For a one-year residence permit, you must have at least € 6,720 available for your use. To receive a positive decision for a one-year residence permit a student has to pay the tuition fee, show funds of € 6,720 for the cost of living (for accommodation, food and other needs) and a health insurance must be valid for at least one year from the date a student arrives in Finland. You must have the required sum for the cost of living in your own bank account.

For how many months before applying should this money be in someone's account.

Three months at least.

Can I come to Finland with my family if I'm studying Bsc?

I'd love migrate to Finland through study route and I have years of working experience but my first degree wasn't a good grade, I wouldn't mind doing BSc again if need be.

you are allowed dependents.
If you intend to apply by January, you can start legalizing your documents from now(marriage, children's birth certificates, spouse's waec/neco) at the MFA

The embassy requires you to show them how you or your sponsor got that money.
It could be from

Salaries (show documents of your/your sponsor's offer letter and payslips)

Business (tax certificate)

Cash gift(your relationship with the giver)

Loan(loan agreement and repayment plan)

Property sale(cars, house, yatch etc grin)

you talked about have a family member as an European citizen does this apply to you brothers aside the child, spouse or parent
pansophist:
The biggest misconception about Japa is the idea that you must spend millions. It is not. You can have millions to show on your bank statement, but you don't have to spend millions. It may just happen that you only have to spend on the application fee, depending on the category you applied for.

For example, if you are a family member of a European citizen, then you don't have to show your bank statement, submit proof of flight, or hotel, or that you are coming back to Naija, and the application fee is free. You are literally just going to collect a visa without stress. In fact on the Schengen visa application form, it is written there that EU family members should not fill in that area. And the visa must be issued within two weeks at the latest.

And guess what? the embassy cannot deny you. It's against the law. They can deny it in exceptional circumstances such as you have ebola that can infect the public or a serial killer with the hobby of blowing up stations and airports. Even if you have been banned from entering Europe, your status as a child, spouse, or parent of an EU citizen redeems you and invalidates the ban.

If you have any family with an EU passport, you are a lucky child. Just go and ask the embassy for your visa.

But if you do not have an EU relative, then go through school. Don't go as a visitor, you will suffer eh? As a student, you just buy time for yourself like two years or more (depending on degree length, so you can know your way around, and find a legal route to make your stay permanent.

Extended family members do not have the automatic right to visa and residence, but they are permitted if their case is duly justified.

I explained this before on the thread, please read it, so I do not repeat myself.

Exactly my thought as well.
The question was entirely unnecessary one.
It gives the impression that his motivation for the online course was free university admission.

Where is it advisable to legalize my documents? Court or Abuja?
I intend to apply by September for admissions and proceed with visa thereafter.
Also, my bank statement, my work is clearing agent. What do I submit with my bank statement? No payment slip. It’s a one man business.

But do your best, it's always the best formula. Try to make sure you get the best grade since that's what they would mostly consider before giving you anything. But it is worth it, so please, and please, take it seriously.

Because if you ever make it to Finland, hmm, if you ever make it to Finland? That country will single-handedly clean off all the nonsense in your life.

All the nonsense every Nigerian inherited by default, just for being Nigerians. From multi-dimensional poverty, a weak passport, fear of the future, inability to respect yourself because you need money to have self-respect, etc.

I want to see a new batch of naira landers that made it to Finland after they stopped their free education. All the old batches that I knew, that came in through my 2012 thread are all Finns already.

Some don run go Ireland, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, or those wey just dey travel the world visa-free like ghosts. Custom officers do not stop them.

In fact when I landed in Abu Dhabi a few weeks ago, no customs officers checked me. As an EU passport holder, you have a special machine to just swipe in your passport and enter the country. No queue for us at all.

But others that came with visas/third world passport holders, omo, come and see crowd, with heavy looking officers questioning their life like they came to steal. I just shook my head and wished the world was not made up of the haves and have not.

The country you want to go to, be it the US, UK, Canada, the whole of Europe, or even Russia that they are fighting with, is visa-free for you. Visa-free to over 190 countries is no joke.

Infact, you will visit more countries in your dear continent Africa with a western passport than with an African one. It is that bad.

In fact, I have become arrogant a bit, that if I see say a country needs a visa from me, then I am not going there. I don't have the energy to gather documents and queue at the embassy.

I am coming to spend money in your country, you are asking me for a visa. Are you mad? I wanted to go to Congo on time, I just bone am. grin

I just want to motivate you in my own way, so try my sister. God bless your hustle. cool

I started reading this thread from page 1 since 8pm.
Every page was very rich and helpful and they are all for free from majorly one selfless person.
I've been on nairaland for many years but I've never seen a thread so impactful like this.

In fact, I was shading tears as I read this post that I just quoted.
I've been searching nairaland for the easiest way to Japa since last year but I've never seen any until now.
Thanks so much pansophist for your generosity.
May God continue to bless you and yours.🙏

I'm very much interested to study (MSc) and work in Finland sir.
I'm 42 and married with kids. I have Btech in electrical engineering with 2.2.
I intend to leave mid next year (God willing).

How do I process this journey as a newbie?
What documents do I need to get?
Which school has cheaper tuition fees and in cheaper location?
Would I be allowed to move my family to Finland after a year in school?

Thanks for your response in advance.
And if you want me to pay your 20k charity donation to proof my seriousness, I'll gladly do it sir.

If you will study, then four million is not enough unfortunately. 4M naira is about 6k euros, it won't pay for your school fees even. You need at least 8-10k euros for that.

I mean, its a huge money, but naira have fallen so badly that when converted to euros, it becomes so small. If you can increase it, then try. It worth working hard for.

Or you go for bachelor degree programs. They are usually cheaper. Lapland university of applied sciences have the cheapest degree program. At about 4k a year, even better if they give you a scholarship.

I can't recommend any course for you. But go to studyinfo. fi, and search for courses that you like, also use the filter botton to search better. But I'll give you a possibility of relocating without spending much.

Lab university of applied sciences just started a four year engineering bachelor program called sustainable solutions engineering. So you study the first 60 credits (out of 240 credits) online, if you perform well, then from the second year, you can study in Finland for free.

The university will assist you to come to Finland, and tuition fee will be free. The country needs people in that field, so they exempt that program from tuition payment.

You won't find the link to the program on their website (I don't know why), but drop your email and I'll send it to you, so you can apply. I got it through their newsletter, since I applied there long time ago when I was like you, trying to japa.

Goodluck mate. May God bless your hustle.
