Yes, some few years ago by one Yoruba guy. He told me to register for Custom recruitment online, which I did, not knowing it is a fake site. I was requested to pay money to continue although the money was small. I paid the money only for the guy to come later and start laughing at me.
I don't think there is any successful Yoruba guy that made it without stealing other people's things or duping people.
Please don't do this. I have 3 established yoruba freelance writing clients I work for. They are not fraudulent in any way. There are good and bad people in ALL tribes.

Mine is very recent, I go scammed by a drop shipper my brother referred to me (my bro barely knew him) had him on WhatsApp almost a year and he seem really genuine, paid him 120,000 for him to buy a powerbank for me, it was the money I saved to get a gen, I felt this huge portable power station would be better,
I paid the money to this dude and he stopped replying me, I really feel stupid

On LinkedIn a man contacted me to handle a procurement of 200 pieces of laptop for TETFUND.
This man has a good profile on LinkedIn. Alot of followers also. For a second i thought he was real.

He sent me his WhatsApp number.
I used true caller to search but it never gave me his name. Uchendu Wogu.
I searched him on Google and read his profile. It gave me impressive results.
I proceeded with my quotation and sent. He approved of it and asked me to send it to an email for the bidding process. He also asked me to inflate my quotation to 96 million naira instead of the 33 million naira quotation i gave him. Claiming that was the allocated budget from tetfund. I said okay oh but I became reluctant & suspicious at this point but still played along.
When I adjusted the quotation to his request, he told me to forward the quotation to the email he provided and also advised me to pay the man around 900k as bribe to approve the quotation and hand me the procurement. He said when they pay me, i will give him 65% and take the rest.
I laughed out loud and said Sir, since you know this man who's email you have provided. Why not pay him the 900k and I will deduct it from my own 35%when tetfund credits me?
I also said sir i will like to meet you one on one as I am gonna be in Abuja in two days time.
I said if you can't give him the funds and I pay back from my own 35% then I am OUT.

He never replied me again.
A week later another Ahmad Shehu Hadi contacted me on LinkedIn. His message was exact with that of uchendu wogu. Same punctuation, words and style. More like copy & paste.
I laughed and replied the Ahmad,
Oga scammer is it procurement for laptop that one would pay 900k to get?

He immediately blocked me.
So i guess it's a Team of scammers working together, they look for professionals with impressive profiles on LinkedIn to scam.
Their profiles are also well built with activities.
They are very coordinated so beware and do not fall for such if you happen to be contacted for procurement of any type on LinkedIn.

I invested 100k in a farming scheme sometimes around December 2020. I trusted the source because he was our Sunday school teacher then in RCCG. A lot of our Church members invested in rice farming, I did mine in vegetable farming. The ROI was 20k in 3 months so I wasn't thinking of it as a scam. Well I guess I was wrong. Till today shishi I no see. I almost went into depression then cos I just put to bed and I had to invest all I had with me. I cried fire!

Well, one were scammed me of 1k recently that he can help me gain contact for my business WhatsApp group. Truthfully in my mind I knew he is a scammer but I felt how much is 1k? I gave him and I told him I know he is a scammer he later blocked me 🤣

I paid someone on nairaland here for Bitcoins worth $50 in 2018, but he blocked me. The money was paid into his friend's
WEMA bank account.

So, after it became obvious that it was a scam, I reported him to the bank, and I was asked to provide evidence of payment together with the account number, which I did.

He later unblocked me and told me that the account belong to his friend, and that his friend was unable to withdraw money from ATM.

He asked if it was only the police and the bank that I reported to. He promised to refund me the money and also compensate me... He said after refunding me I should tell the bank so they can free the account for the owner to use..

I guess they let all the money in the account go after I lied to them that I reported to EFCC, CBN, the police, and also the bank. I think that made him afraid that he might be caught.

Till today, I never heard from the guy again... I complained to WEMA bank, but they said that I should go and use police to arrest the criminal after I brought police report....

I still have the evidence of payment in my email till now. If I see anyone working in WEMA bank, I will collect the phone number of the account owner and threaten him...

I must collect my money o

I sympathize with your loss. However, your claim that "I don't think there is any successful Yoruba guy that made it without stealing other people's things or duping people" is completely false, to the point where I question whether you were actually duped in the first place. It's evident that you're going through some undeniable pains, but there's no need to take out your frustration on us, Yorubas.

The day I was scammed at alaba still amazes me. I went with my uncle then someone from imeko afon in ogun state and also an electrician by profession(I said dis so u won't think I am Igbo) to buy flat screen tv. So because of all the negative things we have heard about alaba and the selling of fake things we where very careful and where avoiding the igbos, so one Yoruba boy approached us and since he was Yoruba and my uncle could relate with him well, we decided to follow him to his place. He took us to one place like that with many Yoruba boys there with lots of refurbished TV's, so after we selected one and my uncle said we should all go together and test it at an electrician place that is how those guys there said we should give them deposit first. That is how our money enter one chance

Late last year, I saw a guy's post about mining Bitcoin on Nairaland. I contacted him and asked how I would go about it.

To cut the long story short, I transferred some amount (4k plus) to him but lo and behold, he stopped picking my calls after I made the transfer.

I just thank God I didn't transfer more than the stated amount to the scammer. cheesy

He said that the person who scammed him is a YORUBA GUY, how does that equate to him calling all Yorubas scammers?

And what if he fed from the soil, drank the waters and bleeped Yoruba toto, why should that hamper him from saying the truth?

This type of passive-aggressive bullying is what you Yoruba cows are known for.
I won't be dragged into throwing bigotry tantrums with anyone here.
You should kindly go back to the post that led to my comment, read, comprehend, assimilate properly before coming here to advertise your grandiose display of foolishness to over 2 million nairalanders.
