You need to break it down properly first o..
Is d 2nd job a banking job? Do u enjoy it? Is there possibility of much increase in pay?

Are there other teaching opportunities? Do u like teaching?

Good morning all,

I will make this short and brief. I have work in a school for 10years now. I started working there with a salary of 8k up till 20k. I now have a wife with 2kids. The salary was not taking care of us again. And I was left in taking loan. But in any academic session ie 1st, 2nd, 3rd term, apart from my salary I do see up to 100k or more base on tips and other deals.

I resigned February and I got a new job of 45k. Now my former job is calling me to come back, that I will be given 30k.. maybe when more pupils come my salary will be increase..

Former job
* I go by 7.30 and close by 3.30 and have time with my family
* Trekable from my house, I don't pay t.p.
* I enjoyed public holidays and mid term break
* I don't go on Saturday, still have time with my family
* Tips and pension available

New job
* I go by 7:30 and close by lastest 7:30 or 8 no time for my family
* I pay 400 to and fro
* I work on Saturdays no time for my family
* No tips anywhere.. just your salary and you will be subcharge for any wrong posting.

I have 1 week to decide... Please help coz I am confused.

You have made a lot of sense. A family of 4 will have to live frugally to manage 25k weekly, prices of things are shooting up. And God forbid there is any medical emergency o
Someone like me spend 10k weekly on fuel alone cus i work 35km away from where i live. Car parts and servicing costs are up the roof. I wonder how Nigerians arent revolting and burning up politicians houses yet until i see people earning this low and i start thanking God.

45k a month!!!! And we are still supposed to save for investments and emergencies. ahhhh... it is well with us in this country o

joebeckz:
N40k salary for a family man?
I feel very sorry for your situation even if that isn't your fault.
Your former Job affords you the time to do other things if you are industrious. Do not spend it with family at home. Go out there and do other things.
Examples are buying eggs from farmers to resell, small scale farming or part time Uber. Just look around you and tap into the opportunities around to fill a large part of your life and that of your family. An average family in Nigeria now cannot live well with 200k Salary.

When I go through receipts I pile up in my car compartment. I realise how much things have become pricey. Weekly shopping for the basic needs for a family of 4 now cost as high as 25-30k minus luxury. And we have people earning as low as 15k. Pathetic!

God help us in this country.
Our leaders, present and past are cruel.

OP, do not settle for less please. You deserve more.
Go back to the first job and have an extra means of income no matter how difficult it is. Learn a skill if you can't improve your qualification, it is better to die trying than to never try at all.
I pray for you and many others in this same place.

Cheers!

You can receive advice from a group of strangers, but the choice has to be taken by you in the end. I don't believe that either jobs are beneficial to you and your family. With the current economic state of Nigeria, even 100k is not enough for 2 people, much less with children. What I'd advise is that you look at both options and pick the lesser evil which looks to be your job at the school. Now, its either you fight for your salary to increase gradually, to 40k then 50k; or you actively look for another job while still having this job at the school.

You can also decide to start your own business if you can, if your wife is already an entrepreneur, support her in what she does, if she doesn't try to set something up for her, that loan you took, take it to invest in a business.

I pray God blesses all your efforts.

Hope that your new job is not all these contract work? I'll advise you stick to your teaching job. With the cost of transportation and the work hours you'll definitely regret taking that job. It's not worth it.

Use the superior offer of the new one to negotiate a better package like pay increase and written agreement from the old one.

N400 multiplied by 20 days a month is N8000. Hours lost to extra activities that can give you income is also against new offer.

Hi,

I think you should highly consider upgrading your status (maybe take some online courses or certifications) with the aim of increasing your worth in the labour market. While doing this, be actively looking for other better vacancies.

I am suggesting this because the salary figures you are mentioning are too low considering you have a family to cater for. And this current economy is not favorable.

Keep pushing bro

It is quite unfortunate.
Some food kids crave once in a while like sardine, shawarma, pizza and ice cream will almost be extinct in the lives of these kids because the little resource would be on strict budget.
Man that's not life. I really weep for Nigerians.
Our leaders have been wicked.
I hate to see pitiable situations like this.

How do these people sleep?

Re: Please Help, Which Job Should I Go For by Everbryte: 8:16pm On Mar 22, 2023
The advise below is the true situation; if they remove subsidy as planned, 1 litre of fuel will be up to 500 and u will end up paying up to 1k daily. With 12 hrs at work, you will buy urself lunch/drink/ snacks. So the salary increase you are looking at does not exist.

You can use this to negotiate with your former employer for pay rise - do not accept anything below 60k(double), in your former office, as it is, you are at the peak of your value now. However, they have identified you as a business risk, they have been threatened and will put a plan in place in case next time you threaten to exit, they might not wait for your next time, they may agree to pay what you ask for (risk management/response) but later terminate & hire 2 people instead of just you. You need to actively look for job and move on before they leave you behind.

Time is money, the free time you have from your previous job can be converted to money - do some business/trade, setup business for your wife & support her after work, take a loan & expand the business. Learn a skill/ get more education and use it to enhance your teaching career or change career altogether. You can do better that you are doing currently. Yes you can. All the best.

Trojan8:
I think you should go back, but put your eyes outside. 400 to and fro in a week is #2,400 in a month that's basically 10k with more workloads. Though the school was very inconsiderate to allow you stay in same salary for that long, hence why you need to start looking at other options.

A family man should be earning way more than that.

@ podium , I will be very honest with you.

Is your wife working ? Please stop whining yourself with that type of salary , how do you survive on 30k monthly nitori oloun ? You even said you make extra 100k per term (3 months ) , which puts your monthly income at 63k. Please think of a way to stand on your own. It’s either you learn LUCRATIVE SKILLS or start a business no matter how small or add more certificates and find a good job .

You said you have two kids , they’ll soon be in secondary schools , how will u be able to pay school fee and give them good life? When youself go enjoy your life? I know you’re trying, but i enjoin you to channel your energy to something more productive and profitable. As a family man with bills to pay , please forget about passion!
Please my brother. Think think think !!!

Give some examples of LUCRATIVE SKILLS that he can learn.

Hello @ poster, I will advise you to go back to the teaching job. The new job may not hold water for you. Very soon, you will get a more juicy offer that will change your story. I once had a similar experience, thank God i did not take the offer. In less than 2 years after, i got a better job which i am still doing today.
