I disagree with this report.

Last time I checked, SE plays host to the highest number of billionaires in the world.

Based on ipob bureau of statistics, the SE has 970 billionaires per square centimetre.

You lack sense sha. The stats is per square mile. Meaning that land mass is being used to compute the figure. In case you are too dull to realize, half of Niger state is bigger than the entire south east in land mass. Half o. Not whole. Meaning that south east should come first because it has the least land mass. Not necessarily because it has more poor people.

Borrow sense next time.

They calculated it how they wished to mislead the gullible. Half of Niger state is bigger than the south east. Which means that they having more figures doesn't translate to them being more poor.

Very poor analysis!

Everyone knows the North has huge landmass, and if you divide their population with that, the figure goes down...

Put the same Northern population in Southern square mile and see the astronomical figures you will get... because, the south has small land mass, compared to the north.

Same explains why SE with reasonable population but small landmass will have higher results you termed "poor"

The statistics is flawed because it did not take into cognisance the small size of the south east compared to other regions

Fair enough,,i've been in every geopolitical zone in Nigeria and I'll proudly beat my chest and tell that the Igbos have the best quality of life and most middle class homes in Nigeria,,

South East has a smaller land area compared to other zones,,
So the square mile shiit is correct when you check the population of peeps living in this region.
South East is densely populated!.
But that also goes to show how urbanized the area is.

My brother low the volume. Don't loud it😄😄😄😄. Don't let them know the truth so they don't attack us economically 😄😃😀...I repeat no tribe has the best quality of life in Nigeria than the Igbos. Look around your neighborhood for starters. No wonder some yorubas were disenfranchised in the 2023 Lagos Governorship election for looking like Igbos. I examined these disenfranchised Yorubas, them fresh die in terms of appearance. Just like your regular Igbo man or woman. It gives you an idea how poor Yorubas see the average Igbo man.

I have been to every geopolitical zone in Nigeria as well. Nah Igbos they enjoy this country pass (quality of life). I haven't come across an extremely poor Igbo man in the category of beggers, dirt truck pushers, iron condemn cart pushers, refuse pickers etc. Never!!! Other tribes most especially the north, and the Southwest to an extent, have these categories of people in good doses. I live in Lagos, and the people that handle the most menial, degrading jobs are the Northerners, followed by Southwest. Despite them clinging to power for decades. Nah their people they clear our gutters, pick our refuse, shine our shoes, dig our pits and wells, clear our soakaways, while we pay them stipends.

When I see people voting along tribal lines, you'll wonder if they benefit anything from their people in power. If your immediate family isn't directly benefiting from politics, your tribesmen being in power is totally useless to you. When the elections are done and dusted, you'll still go to shine the Igbo man shoes and clear his septic tank. Good governance redistributes wealth from the rich to the poor. Tribalism only enriches the political elites...Bitter Truth!!! 😄😄😄😃😁😁😁😃😀😀😆😆

I don't know the agency that conducted this research and how credible they are but using per square meter to calculate poverty won't truely give a clear picture because dividing the population of south east (which is almost the same as Oyo state landmass wise but with a population close or if not more than the total south west) by the total land mass will give south east the highest mark.
Per capital, north is the poorest but if you divide there around 100m people with a huge landmass they have, it will blur their poverty rate.
Simple mathematics.
If Nigeria population is 200 and north is 100 with a land mass of 100m square, it means 1 person is poor per square meter.
If south east population is 30 out of the 200 and with a landmass of 20m square, it means 1.5 people are poor per square meter.

If you go by this, Lagos as the smallest state in Nigeria, but with the highest population of over 20 million people, would be ranked as the poorest State based density

This thread is misleading. The southeast and the South in general is much more densely population than the north. So there are more people per square mile in the south especially southeast than there are in the north. So in turn there are more poor people per square mile since there’s more people in general per square mile. The southeast is the most densely populated region in the country.

Which probably make sense. We fought a war that killed over 5 million people, crashed investments and then the fed gave us £20 postwar. If we recorded a few numbers above SW, and North, it probably mean that these regions have been sleeping all their lives.

I disagreed. I don't believe the statistics at all. There are more economically stable people in the South East than any tribe in Africa. This is despite devastating years of civil war.

I think the statistics was based on Igbo state of mind . A poor man in IBO land based on Igbo (Anambra) mental state or cultural orientation will be classified as an averagely comfortable person in the South West or North therefore not classified as being poor in South West or North.

One thing you people don't understand is that the statistics was based on per square mile. A state like Kaduna is bigger than all south east states combined. What it means is that, like 100 people will occupy a square mile in south east while somewhere like Kaduna, it will be 10.

How do you calculate poverty per square mile? comparing the land size of the east and the north would obviously tell you southeast will have more people per square mile due to the population and land size. Per capita would be more efficient

You are very wrong. its obvious SE will have more people in poverty in a mile due to the population and land mass compared to north which is 3X size of south east. You are just saying this to please your self and live in delusion.

That's because the south east has very little land mass. You can travel miles in the semi desert up north before you see a hamlet or even a village.
Try finding out poor people per 1000 in every region.

Honestly this is the most brilliant I have seen, How do you use per mile when you dont state land mass and population, Obviously a region with high population with small landmass will have Higher poverty index ratio. But this agbado people are just to daft to understand basic economics
