Stay hydrated people! Hospital wards are starting to fill up because of this horrible heat. I heard about a new mother that fainted as a result of the heat in their poorly ventilated apartment. If possible sef, sleep outside. No gree for this heat wave o

It's not starting to fill up, it's filled up already no bed space again. Both emergency and normal ward. May God help us in this country.

Is ur line 33?
CaptainJune:
I have been scouting for a topic like this on nairaland that acknowledges the deadly heat wave experienced yesterday and that has continued till today. It was terrible (first of its kind in Nigeria). The epileptic power supply worsens the situation. Yesterday was a sign that global temperatures have risen drastically.
Re: Why The Current Heat Wave Is Very Deadly by Love800(m): 8:32pm On Feb 15

Power distribution and supply is at its historical lowest across the nation.

Everything about Nigeria has massively deteriorated.

It's so shameful.

Funny how some people were taking offense for being described as "Generator Republic" recently.

This is far worse than that, cos most can't even afford fuel for the generators.

Nigeria is now officially "Blackout Republic". embarassed embarassed

Re: Why The Current Heat Wave Is Very Deadly by bizzibodi(m): 8:49pm On Feb 15
The heat wave no be here oo!even bathing several times did not help matter,d more water i drank d more i sweat, phcn join to worsen matter,d hottest part of hell is reserved for them all.
I planned to hang mosq.net on my balcony to sleep because breeze blows there but she discouraged me say evil current/dark forces move outside for night.
I disagree with d poser this heat is not caused by high humidity, clothes drys quickly both outside & inside.
Re: Why The Current Heat Wave Is Very Deadly by SeriouslySense(m): 8:49pm On Feb 15
That is the advantage of Jos.

High humiidy makes heat more deadly, i wonder how they survive in some southern states. Temperatures are already reaching 40 C with high humidity, if there is no wind, that is the true hell for suffocation.

They can't bro... They don't have strength to fly that high
mosquito can fly 60ft above ground. But they usually don't do that because that's not part of there thing to do on what interest. They are found in 4 story building apartments.

I just read about wet bulb temperatures in tropical regions of the world during this hot period and I learned something a wet bulb temperature is a phenomenon where the temperature is high and the humidity is also high which means when we sweat our bodies cannot cool because sweat cools us when our bodies overheat.

So that means that the moisture content in the air is high so when we sweat our sweat cannot cool us down so you sweat more and dehydrate faster and that can lead to kidney failure heatwaves like this do not kill immediately protracted nighttime stretches of 35°C can cause several health problems

Dry heat like in harmattan periods are different because the moisture content in the air is low meaning your body sweats and cools easier and faster than wet bulb temperatures

The current heat in naija is around 35°C and humidity is high and to be honest sleeping feels like being cooked in hot steam

My fellow nairalanders I bring you this info as I am here thinking of sleeping on the roof please does anyone know if mosquitoes can fly to the roof of a 5 storey building

Until you sleep and fall off, iyame cry
Re: Why The Current Heat Wave Is Very Deadly by accurde1: 8:52pm On Feb 15
Angelfrost:
Op, that means kidney failure should be rampant in Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, etc. grin
Cos this is their weather every year, and has been since forever.

It just happens that it came down South on this rare occasion.

Some of you that have never left Lagos or Southern Nigeria actually believe such crap. Lol.
