The project should have started from Calabar if the government is sincere. Don't you think so?

These kinds of projects are done in phases and are eventually linked up. We expect the construction to take place in several sections at the same time. That's what I'd do as Minister of Works.

I am indifferent to where it starts from. I am just happy it has started after 60 years!

I don't know who is advising tinubu, this man is psycho. A huge misplaced priority. No electricity, No fuel, high inflation, high cost of living, high cost of food and household items, poor source of income, high insecurity, high rate of job insecurity, most business are shutting down, Which has made a whole lot of Nigerian youth jobless. Out of all these issues how is a coastal road a priority.

If anyone from the Niger-Delta comes across the thread, please remember that some of you voted for Peter Obi. Peter Obi has demonstrated he is against the progress of the Niger Delta communities. The bulk of the funds for running our economy comes from the Niger Delta. But he says a big project to criss-cross the Niger Delta is a misplaced priority.

Note that the US spent their way out of recession through the New Deal which focused on massive infrastructural development across board, including roads. There is no nation interested in progress that is currently not engaged in one form of infrastructural development or the other. But the one which is 60 years old overdue in Nigeria, Peter Obi is fighting it, simply because he lost election.

If he didn't build anything meaningful in Anambra, I think it is disingenuous to fight against something being built through the Niger Delta. Thanks to Tinubu's ingenuity, Lagos is undergoing massive infrastructural development and embarking on an audacious railway project which the likes of Rufai Oseni would condemn.

Peter Obi doesn't want the progress for the Niger Delta. He just wants to get the votes and use anti-developmental and archaic ideas to ruin this country completely.

Only vote for those who want progress to be in your land. With this tweet, Peter Obi has shown he is not interested in that.

As for the Landmark CEO who has been all over the place making noise, can he show us documents where the shorelines and beaches in his location were ceded to him? If he violated the right of way, it is evil for him to complain. The best thing to do was to meet and find ways to relocate his business or shift to an area where the coastal highway won't pass. When I travelled through Accra-Cape Coast highway, part of which was adjacent to the ocean, it was a beautiful sight with the blue waters! Guess what? Beaches still functioned!!

Just to add, a road network is also a delight for businesses. Food can easily be transported from rural areas to urban centers and those in rural communities would make good money.

But Peter Obi does not want this.

Stop crying. Atiku called it high way of fraud.

Now, can you tell me why you think spending trillions on this project is better than spending considerably lesser to complete the east-west road that also has the same route?

Dear Mr self proclaimed spokesperson of the Niger Delta and Northern Nigeria when PO is helping communities with boreholes,

We know what you and your fellows did to defend Buhari for 8 years while he was ruining the country, and what you're now doing to defend Tinubu while his policies are causing more hardship and suffering, so what's the big deal with disclosing a fake identity?

Peter Obi cares about the interests of people from the region, his wife is from the same region. He has deep rooted love and support from Edo, Rivers and all over Niger Delta, so what are you talking about?

Do what you have to do. We know its tought being a Tinubu supporter at this time so one can do anything out of desperation.

Defend your Tinubu and leave this matter you're dragging abeg

Your attempt to defend Peter Obi's misbehaviour falls flat on common sense.

I supported Tinubu during the elections.

Now I support Nigeria. Opposition is not about attacking everything, but ensuring things are followed to completion.

It is because Peter Obi talks with limited knowledge that I called him out. It is enough to have said the project he delayed to fix existing roads (which are ongoing anyway), but to say the project be abandoned is evil, unforgivable, devilish, anti-progress, anti-people, anti-Niger Delta and anti-humanity.

I like Nairaland, because everything is documented. It was unlike when Tinubu/Fashola was bisecting roads for BRT corridor and people complained. When the BRT rolled out, those who complained ate back their words.

I am shocked that many of you underrate Tinubu. A man who plotted to be president for 30 years na im una dey reason say na run off the mill politician.

You can chose to lie to yourself, but you can't fault some of his policies.

My biggest worry is that many of Tinubu's ministers are docile. During Obasanjo's time, his minister of information had a project where he visited project sites to show what government was doing. I think it was aired on NTA every week.

Tinubu's minister is sitting down in Abuja. We should be seeing him in different project sights and having programmes on major TV stations showcasing what government is doing in various sectors.

People assume nothing is happening because they don't know.

By the way, Dave Umahi is redesigning most of the projects to concrete to save costs and last longer.

So all these years, why have government not repaired all those bad roads since none of them wasted money on Lagos - Calabar coast highway?

Government shouldn’t have built new schools too when they can just repair the old schools and all our children can congest in that. Government should have developed new estates too, when they can concentrate on repairing old houses to make it beautiful.

This shallow and unpatriotic man is taking about job loss when in fact the project is a massive job creator and economic catalyst across several states and hundreds of communities, also easy movement of goods and services the Lagos industrial and manufacturing corridor to several states and multiple regions all the way to the North.

Thank God Nigerians rejected this shortsighted low thinking tribal and bigoted man.

I'm a proper Yoruba man from Ifelodun, Kwara State, you tribalistic dingbat.

You are a proper Yoruba to yourself on faceless social media. When I was in the University in IBO land several years ago, Kwara students don't attend ODUA students meetings because they don't want to be seen as identifying with Yorubas. I begged them to join us they refused. Some of them claim Fulani in Abuja and Kaduna. It is only in Lagos and faceless social media they claim to be Yoruba.

I spent 6 years in IBO land in the University, if this project were to be in the North, no IBO dead or alive can have the audacity to say this nonsense that irrelevant man is saying.

They are very ungrateful. That was how they killed Colonel Victor Banjo who designed Biafra war strategy and led IBOs to war against Nigeria .

No IBO dead or alive can stop that project.

It is a disservice to term it a misplaced priority.

Actually it is the greatest act of wickedness and height of insensitivity to have Nigerians keep dying in accidents or being kidnapped due to the deplorable state of Federal roads while they embark on constructing new ones with no completion in sight.

But then only an idiot will fight for Nigerians. Indifference is more preferable because somehow Nigeria always has ways of happening to those who turn blind eyes to atrocities therein.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, took to his verified Twitter handle to lampoon the Federal Government for continuing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

In his tweets, he rued the economic and job losses, asking the government to focus on maintaining existing highways instead of engaging in non-essential projects.

But honestly this project will generate more revenue for both states and also create more jobs

I expect the new road to link to the East-West road. If designs I saw on the internet for the coastal highway are correct, then it is actually to link up with the East-West road. In other words, it is part of the same road.

You asked for the benefits of spending trillions on a road. Off the top of my head, the following are the benefits of a road infrastructure:
(1) Open up rural areas to industrialization by connecting rural areas to urban centers.
(2) Reducing commuting time for travellers.
(3) Enhancing the economies of local communities through job creation and trade.
(4) Enhancing cultural cocktails and boosting tourism potentials.
(5) Revenue generation through tolls in the long term.
(6) Reducing people's expenses. If I can drive to my office in Lagos in one hour and live somewhere accommodation is cheaper.

In a society towards urbanization, there is no such thing as too much roads. Peter Obi not knowing that is why he is unfit for leadership.
Re: Peter Obi Vehemently Condemns Lagos-Calabar Highway As A Misplaced Priority by Promax4321: 6:47pm On Apr 30
He is crying wolf because the road won't pass through Biafran land where they normally take passing feed from travellers.

Their taxes on roads through their region increases value for good and equipments.

The difference between food items between midbelt and Port harcourt is enumous and appoling.

The road will reduce travelling time, bypass those tax collectors and open up niger Delta villages along the coaster route.

Obi won't be happy for this gain to niger deltans and so with most of his obidients
