In 1830, the equivalent of a GAP store in iboland would have been a rafia palm.

Where are your 9th century bronzes? Arab conquest.

Design of Ichafu was my grandma's speciality. She was an illiterate who barely knew Yoruba existed.
Stop exposing your unquantifiable ignorance, woman.

Saying your mother's specialty was Ichafu is supposed to prove what exactly? Do you know what you're posting or did you just want to join the discussion?

PS: Can you prove that Yorubas were not using the same technique before your grandmother knew Yorubaland existed?

For Alj Harem, who says Igbo's were introduced to woven cloth by others, Woven cloth was found in the Igbo Ukwu excavations. Igbo Ukwu is from the 9th Century. Tell me of any other Nigerian tribe that had woven cloth on or before the 9th Century. People have posted pictures of one of the burial vaults in this thread. You can also google for more information.

This book which was written in the 1800's describe an expedition which was undertaken in the 1800's and how the explorers came across a fancy cloth which was woven by the Igbo's. It telss of how the Igbo's went as far as the confleunce at Ghebe to sell their cloth

http://books.google.com/books?id=0hYFAAAAQAAJ&pg=RA1-PA158&dq=fancy+cloth+igbo&hl=en&ei=IQXLTo6_EqLL0QHY5owI&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CEgQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=fancy%20cloth%20igbo&f=false

Finally, this book talks about how in the 16th century,  Benin people were found to be wearing cloth similar to that found in Igbo Ukwu  and that some may actually have been of Igbo manufacture

Lol why are you guys still arguing with Ilaki Ldelaki, that was the ultimate point of the thread to get a rise out of you guys.  Its Woman 101, the Mindfuck, where a girl will say the most bleeped up thing just to get you pissed and then play innocent  cool Make your point and move on, or just clusterfuck the thread like I'm doing  grin

First off, I won't entertain someone insulting me, second of all, I thought your dude was worth the try but NO WAY. Whoever that did history and doesn't know the accounts of the Persian Empire, I'm sorry. I was explaining how Islam spread to Africa through the Persians, him he's saying something else, haven't the Persians ruled before the Arab empire, I'm done. For the record, Google isn't always the answers, there are something that require personal knowledge.

Yorubaland did not invent head tie, neither did Igbo or Ijawland. We're talking about modern head tie styles like the yoruba one below:

Are you talking about the agbada?
Agbada is worn in Islamic regions, but the Yoruba styles are different from other regions.
Specially made for our OWANBE.
Or what are you trying to say?

So your claim is not for instance that you invented agbada, but insisted the styles you invented, styles different from other regions, Igbos are wearing the sam style as yours? Is this your point?
