I think the issue is not whether it is boring or interesting, but that it is progress in a field much in the realms of the unknown. all the articles I have read speak more on the side of "Strong Possibilities" rather than Provable FACTS . For those whose interests are not piqued in any fascinating way as the Physicists who made the "un-covery" - it won't cure cancer or cause the world to grow new brain-cells, Higgs boson is not a "God particle", it is only part of the universe in which we live. This "un-covery" allows for learning more about it and perhaps it would be like the discovery of electricity, nothing much was thought about it until 50 years on. It is worth celebrating.

I agree with all the above, but I need to point out again the innuendo behind my OP: namely the fact that some people (and as proven by the comments of Plaetton and Jayriginal) erroneously imagine that this has any bearing on theistc/ atheistic discourses.

As Davidylan summarized it -

davidylan:

How? Do you understand what the point of the Higgs Boson is? Most of you dont... the only reason you care about it is that you falsely believe it is another step towards solidifying your decision to throw God out of your equation.

The remarks of Plaetton and Jayriginal 100 % proved my point: and I must say that whereas Jayriginal remarked that we don't understand what we are discussing, it is in fact both he and Plaetton who do not understand a thing about my issue.

For them, I ask again: (since they alluded to fear on the part of theists on account of this discovery) -

Which theist was afraid when the atom was discovered?

Is the atom not also a building block of the universe?

I wouldn't say this at all. There is nothing to scare theists about this Higgs Boson thing. Nothing.

Deep Sight:

The universe is indeed real, but another fact that is as real as the universe is the real fact that the universe did not always exist. It is demonstrably expanding and as such commenced from a point.

You will really have to deal realistically with the real fact that it is real voodoo to really imagine that it really began to expand without external impetus. Just why would it do that? And why not before? Why was it even there as a singularity to start with? Where does a singularity come from?

Once you really address these questions you will really see that the supposition of external impetus is really real.

Really? And Richard Dawkins is a what?

Yes deepsight
the univers is expanding, at an alerming speed at that. (conclussion by the 3 nobel price winers last year)

if one should push his car to roll is it possible that the initial force will sustain the car for eternity?
Will that force perpetually continually increasing it acceleration instead of slowing down?

But the fact remains that the most distant garlaxies are ever speeding off faster than befor (that is after the big bag)

Q the force needed to enhance further thrust where is it coming from?

Dont forget that after all this while the logical thing is for the most distant garlaxies to be slowing down instead of speeding off further. That is what they were expecting to see, after the so long bigbag.

( where is the additional Extra force to increase their thrust coming from)

@Deepsight:
These wise words quoted above from mkmyers45 sums it all up. i could not have said it better myself.

1. Dawkins is an individual who , through his writings, not scientific research, aims to persuade (NOT PROVE) his readers, through the use of common sense(not scientific research), that god does not exists. He does not speak for, nor are his views endorsed by the scientific community.

2.Any new discovery relating to the origin of the universe that may alter previously held notions or theories will always have a bearing on theistic/athiestic discourse.

3. The internal dynamics of the universe could very be what is behind the expansion. yes indeed. Just look at the universe. Everything is in motion. The universe contains an infinite number of counter rotating bodies , exerting countless numbers of both known and unkown forces at one another. Have you heard of Torsion Fields? torsion fields are said to be produced when two or more bodies are in counter rotation. Torsion fields are said to be able to affect gravity, light and possibly time.
. Infact, if we are ever going to create time machines, it would have be with tuse of torsion field generators.

Suppose the universe is not really expanding in the real sense of word, but just jumping in and out of time due to the effects of enormous torsion field effects?Just a crazy notion.
My own summary is quite simple.
A vacuum is energy in a state of equilibrium. By a yet to be known reason, the equilibrium was disrupted within the singularity (energy in a vacuum) and a process of transition began.
Therefore, the big b.ang was not the begining of the process but just an inflection point in the process of transition from pure energy to physical matter.

Now, having had its equilibrium altered, the system, like all systems, wishes to re-esalished its equilibrium. therefore the internal dynamics of the resulting physical universe must always be in motions and counter motions with the ultimate purpose of vioding itself and regaining its equilibrium.
So there need not be an external impetus for the expansion of the universe.
It is expanding by its on internal dynamics.

No, they didn't appear, they are an embodiment of existence.

@plaetton
so, what was the equilibrium that it is trying to attain,? Acceleration run away? (like in thermal run away)
How does rest, motion and there equilibrium affected by action (external impact or force) on the body? And what will there equilibrium state be later?

Is it not the state befor the action (big bag. So, equilibrium = state befor big bang = rest)?

U think that the speed off of the external garlexies is for it to attain equilibrium
Hmmmm!

I believe it by faith. However the irony is that it takes far more faith to believe that the laws of physics just appeared out of thin air by random chance...

Its original equilibrium state, the primordial vacuum of space.
presumably yes.

truthislight: @plaetton

Hmmmm!

Yes also.
The universe might not really be expanding per se. We only see it as expanding from our vantage point in space and time. What is happening are just the expansion and contraction of energy within a system. In same way we think the sun is moving around us from our vantage point relative to the sun, whereas the opposite is the case.

The inflection point of these repeating forces of expansion and contraction is what we call the present.
So from our vantage point, we can only see the expansion and not the contraction.

I already believe this by faith. That has never been in question so you're stating a non-issue.

However you on the other hand revel in being "logical" without realising that most of your own claims are themselves rooted in pure blind faith.

How is basing my views on the natural world "blind faith"? Have I made any claim that contradicts nature.
You want to disparage logic in favor of faith but I'm sure you do live your life by logic until your religion comes up and logic is abjured. What claim of mine is rooted in blind faith?

And if you believe it by faith, how come you are so quick to attack the muslims who also believe in their god by faith?

Stop decieving yourself... your claims are just as illogical as you think religion is. You claim to base your views on the "natural world"... well how did that "natural world" appear? By magic? The laws of gravity developed how? By random chance? How did the earth form? By flinging two higgs bosons at each other? How did unicellular organisms evolve to complex multicellular plants, humans and animals? by random statistical chance? And you ask why your i think your claims are rooted in blind faith?

I don't know how the earth came to be and I won't make up stories. But I am aware of models about planetary accretion which I find plausible and we are all aware of "creation" myths.
I also won't expound on those models because I'm not an expert in that field and they are just models. i don't place any of the myths on a pedestal, so i discard all of them as cultural stories.

I don't agree with your "intelligent design" because it's just an extension of the jewish creation myth.

On what grounds do you find it "plausible"? Do you understand those scientific models? What do they tell us about how the earth was created? Any empirical evidence to support those models?

Blind illogical faith in science is no better than blind illogical faith in the bible.
