Aha! Here it is. The task force against traffic offences (Lastma & police) were arresting traffic offences violators on Ikorodu Road. Some soldiers who were illegally driving on the BRT lane were stopped, but they resisted arrest. One of the soldiers got reinforcements from the barracks and they injured a policeman.

The incident was reported to the commissioner of police (on police radio). The governor also got to know about the incident. They both called the GOC 81 Division (Major General Kenneth Minimah), who directed the Brigade Commander 9th Brigade Ikeja to go and arrest the soldier. Read the rest below

Still looking for the picture of the Airforce officer saluting the governor (2008) and the foreigner resisting arrest.

Some people here are even defending the soldier. Tells you how many Nigerians think; with their rear ends.

You are a cretin.

@topic,

This is what I call symbolic leadership. Nigeria needs leaders that can demonstrate this trait but our cretins voted for the King-Kong Cretin called GEJ.

This is all well and good and I commend BRF for his efforts but let us ask ourselves. If Fashola saw Tinubu or his wife's entourage passing that lane, would he arrest them? I think we all know the answer to that.
Re: Fashola Arrests Army Officers On BRT Lane by Nobody: 9:07am On Jul 18, 2012
Biggyd2: This is exactly my problem with these people. Why should it take the intervention of Fashola to arrest a uniformed official. The state has brought a new bill with stiff penalties for traffic offenders. Will the state traffic officials have the courage to arrest these force officials, local government officials, commissioners, law makers etc when they contravene the law? Or will Fasola leave his official duties and become a mobile traffic officer, looking for who to arrest?

Abegi, there should be no sacred cow o. What is good for the goose is so very good for the gander.

You're making perfect sense. I believe this is the same idea the other fellow (nud chuks?) was trying to emphasise. As sensational as the governor's action was, it is merely tokenism, and tokenisms merely address matters of form rather than substance. They are superficial, indicative of defective state institutions, and have no lasting significance or effect. It's like all the dramatic EFCC arrests of some high profile people (e.g. Bankole, the ex governors etc,) and the FG's selective hounding of James Ibori and other such sacrificial lambs in the name of fighting corruption. These posturings have done NOTHING to establish a firm mechanism for a sustainable war against corruption: Ibori could have easily escaped arrest and in fact would have possibly been the vice president now had Yar'Adua not died. Is that not madness? So we rely on individuals' whims rather than on strong state institutions?

Even as I type this now, I can say authoritatively that several other uniformed men and 'convoys' of various mini ogas are violating the BRT lane restriction with impunity (especially on Ikorodu Road). I guess the governor would have to be omnipresent or ubiquitous to arrest all of them all at once. This episode is merely comic relief to me (just like the episodic efforts at 'fighting corruption'). I'm not impressed in the least because I know no real progress has been made. Don't be surprised if the next governor comes in an abolishes the BRT lane thing altogether; there is no institutional solidity and predictability here. Everything depends on the whims and caprices of those in power.

I wonder why everyone on this particular thread has choose to honour this brf. He is an hypocrate. What has he done about the so calle Agberos?? He keep passing some stupid laws that will only benefit 'THEM' - Imagine you paying 25k for not wearing helmet or paying brf for a compulsory autopsy. Go to Ajar and VI, see the infrastructures in place. Now go to places like, Ikeja (flooded), Ikotun (bad roads), Ikorodu Road (reduced the road by add a brt lane), etc. Fashola is doing his best BUT he is an hypocrate just like other ACN Government Officials. We the citizenry deserve a better Government and Leadership. Even the PDP is no better in this regard - I cause the day i voted for GEJ.

Still, things are too easily sensationalized in Nigeria.
For this to make a difference, we would have to clone Fashola and place him on every major street and highway in Lagos to call bus drivers, okadas, and military men to order when flouting traffic laws, oh wait, we have people employed with our taxes to do just that but instead they are busy looking for helpless drivers to extort money from. I bet the same thing even occurred 30mins after he left that area

The question u should be asking ursef is Do they pass the lane itself? Fashola is the only Governor i know that doesnt break traffic laws. When there is traffic, u will see him there enduring. thats leadership by example. Why wont his wife follow suit. Av u seen tinubu passing the lane at all?

Is it the work of a Governor to arrest people on the road? Why was this made public in the first place. The man has a thing for the military and I know it. The other day, He insulted Mr President with his commanding tune just because GEJ ordered the military into your streets to save you people from your own breeded hoodlums.

O you shallow minded people, look beyond your nose, i.diotz. Why can't he use his agbada and masquerade clothed civilian fellows in government as examples? Why the military?

May U and ur Generation always remain like this mental wise......Amen.....

1.''He was caught up in traffic and seeing a military man accelerating his 406 at a steady uninterrupted speed on another lane got him angry''

. . . assuming the man driving was Asiwaju Tinubu, what do you think would have happened?

I see that your life is full of assumptions.
Asiwaju did not pass BRT Lane.
Why would I be assuming what didi not happen?
Understand one truth. For any positive change in Nigeria,All must be ready for the change.
When I see people like you reasoning like an animal with no brain,
I shudder more what hope lies ahead for the nation.
Law enforcement is the main Issue here.
That is the reason our nation in this dismal status.
I plead we start having a more reasonable and constructive thinking pattern.
