My first job was with a startup. Children of rich nigerians and politicians . They gambled company funds alot. First class tickets, drivers, company cars and the like. I used their internet to search for jobs elsewhere as i say no future for myself there hahaha. Good pay but no one to learn from. 2 Likes |

For a startup? Most times if the contracts is delayed your pay will be delayed as well. They oftentimes survive on the contract or business they see, once the business is slow, there is problem 1 Like |

shegzhkn: It's not about the average. It's more about you. If you have solid value, you can earn more than 10k USD a month....it's all about the individual. 2 Likes |

Start up is scam. Especially if it's family business. Once you build the company to a pedestal, they won't even let you know when they will employ someone and later inform you they're making the job easier for you meanwhile you will be the one training the new staff. After that they push you away. Did one with a Husband and Wife coy. Business was running fine on perfect plan. From Manager I became a secretary then a Marketer, move to being a driver as well as consultant. After 3 months I demanded a raise. Na so them sack me . Employ 4 person's once. 3 months later the company sold off and shut down. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Run for your life unless you don t have option. Always get sweet_mouthed mouth. They delay salary when ther5 is no cash flow. No time frame to close sometimes and they love eye service. When money or contracts come and you remind them of outstation or any agreed benefit, they gets annoy. They will want you to feel like share holder and all na wash. When the company grows and they starts bringing new people and sometimes pay them higher than you. To them, there is nothing special about you again 6 Likes |

pocohantas: Honestly. Plus a toxic work environment and low pay. You're very correct about companies that run like a start up for a long time. There is no growth because of high staff turn over, and you'll work being demotivated most of the time cos of frustration. 2 Likes |

shegzhkn: For lower pay of course. However, some folks still earn more than 10k USD a month from Nigeria. If there are folks like that, our question must be...how do I position myself to be that kind of person? If some folks can legitimately earn that from here, you can too. It's all about how much value you can churn out. |
Re: How Was Your Experience Working With A Start-up? by shegzhkn: 1:40pm On May 20, 2023 |
BennyDGreat:Lol, you still don't get it, it there economy and they control things, there maybe folks who earn 10K USD like you said but they are in the minority (that for sure) and no matter how much people in the developing world position themselves for bigger pay it not gonna happen (it has to be in the confine of what they can or want to do). |
Re: How Was Your Experience Working With A Start-up? by BennyDGreat: 5:38pm On May 20, 2023 |
shegzhkn: You are still coming back to my earliest point. By the way, one of the reasons they ship the jobs down here is because of the lower pay. They get to spend less while getting the job done. The question again is....are there people in this Nigeria earning more than 10k USD remotely a month? If they can earn it, you can too....forget what statistics say. What value are you willing to offer.... Let me share a quick example...if for example you are a remote sales strategist for a company in Germany. While working, you get an idea you propose to the team and it was accepted. It was implemented as you instructed to the letter and boom....the company makes about 8.5m USD in 9 months....if you were earning less than 5k USD a month and demand a raise to 12-15k, would that be unfair to them or you? Na value we dey talk about here....real value 1 Like |
