Its good Nokia have decided to stop bitching around certain markets and now make their products available globally.

I saw that yesterday but didn't really give it a thought until I saw an MTN advert today on they bringing windows phone 8 to Africa. It's good they're doing some advertising themselves.

It's been quite a very long time since I've come across all this exclusive and locked phone stuff.
I personally think it's senseless for we in Nigeria except if its going to be well subsidised.

I don't think it would be upto that amount.
European and UK prices contain about 25% tax as part of the price.

The unlocked price in the US better corresponds.
To put things in perspective, you can compare its price to that of Galaxy S III at launch.
All-in-all, it should be priced between 90 and 100k

The New Nokia Lumia 920 is being launched today @ Silverbird Galleria. Still waiting for the word on pricing though. As for the MTN exclusive thingy, I don't think they will be locking the phone to MTN only. I think its more of MTN taking the lead on the device & pushing it to its subscribers by offering unique data rates/call plans & maybe bundled plans etc. The era of locking a phone to a network in Nigeria is long gone. If Nokia dare try that, they are killing their product.

Well, according to some users on the facebook page of Nokia Nigeria. The Nokia Lumia 802 is gonna cost N82,000 and the Lumia 920 N105,000. That's a huge disappointment if it turns out to be true as the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note II Cost Less Than That. Still waiting for official confirmation though.

I don't buy that argument. Not everything is about America or being a super power. Sometimes, it's just a matter of demand & supply. The natural market forces at work. Nokia has no one to blame for its failure but itself. Same thing that's happening to RIM (Maker's of BlackBerry). Apple sells its devices because people buy them. You cannot deny the quality & finish of an Apple device. Even their critiques can attest to that. Therefore, to see Nokia attempting to follow suit on a device like Nokia Lumia 920 is a disappointment when they should be luring subscribers with lower prices. At N105,000, that's too much in my opinion, comparing the price range with other Android devices. Plus it won't get them new customers for Windows Phone 8 when Android has already an established presence,

^^^^Well I think what Nokia and MS need to do is take a cue from Sammy's book (and their own previous experience) and introduce a slew of devices ranging from budget smartphones to high end ones so that people will have a feel of WP8 at price points that are affordable to them. I am of the opinion that this method has successful helped both Nokia and Samsung reach (at different times) No.1 mobile phone company in the world.

DArkWhiteSoul obviously hasn't seen the legion of features that make the 920 just as good as the iPhone if not it's killer. The iPhone being American is an absolutely mute point. Start reading this thread from the first page to understand what we are talking about.

Anyways on to other issues, if the speculation that the 920 will sell for >N100K is true then how does that help Nokia by offering it exclusively on MTN? I still don't get it.

MTN says it is not going to be sim locked, all they have is a 3 month exclusive sale deal with Nokia.

I think it is too pricey for a system trying to gain wide adoption. Anyway MS have said their strategy is to increase market share in 5% increments.

Now, with the asking price of N105,000 on the Nokia Lumia 920 and which won't be in stores till Dec and only to MTN subscribers, Nokia is making a HUGE mistake to say the least in marketing the Nokia Lumia 920. Windows Phone 8 is still an emerging platform needing more time to mature. The lower price point will have been an added advantage to attract new customers to the platform. The Android OS is a mature platform and will serve as an alternative in my opinion.

It is safe to assume that in the near future the price for the Lumia 920 will fall into the 90-99K neighborhood. How much were you expecting the price to be?
This phone is similarly priced with other flagship devices especially if yo take into consideration the 6 month free data. The MTN SGS III with 3 months data was thesame price.


The only problem I've got is its exclusivity. After 3 months when it would be generally available, the price would still be high cos it would just be new to the market then. Almost like the problem with the current lumias.
But if MTN adequately advertise it, then it may be worth it.
